Check Migration Agency website and just do a rough conversion. But if you keep 20M there and you have a family of 3, it will be ok. Check and know your case, if you are single or married. Different upkeep amount per day for the man, wife, each child within certain age ranges respectively.

I am married with 3 kids. Youngest of them is 8 years old. Is it advisable to move with family to Sweden together with my wife as main applicant. The survival, jobs, weather, raising kids etc...

Trying to be sure before I go all out.. Thanks

That is your decision to make. But any which way, don't come with them at first, even if you apply for them, then after you don see the levels you can bring them up later on

Once you get permit for them while in naija, you can come in and manage until they 'notice you' lol. If you get a landlord that allows you stay with a large family in one room or two, you will be lucky.

But when you are here and want to apply for them, you need to show proof that you have a place that can accommodate them.

For those coming to Stockholm, I'll find time to share some things here, and some others privately.

Certainly you'll acquire your own personal experiences, but come on, we'll keep having new experiences until we die, so why not learn some from others and save yourself some stress to invest on other things?

You will need some info about transportation, and accommodation- the two important things.

It's not unusual to think you are just a newcomer and thus it is ok to spend/waste money on certain things. But, if you learn to save that money from the onset and 'waste' when you are surer, e sweet pass.

For everyone, especially those travelling for the first time, I'll share my experiences so you avoid the extortions I faced at the airport. Also, I may advise on the food items you may not need to bring (food wey I carry come sweden don help, I still dey appreciate my wife and my mama for that. About six months in, Naija food still plenty for my side).

Sir, please we await this o. Especially the food items part and extortion.

Also, please for how long should the POF sit in my account before I apply for RP?, thank you.

Ok.
Apply for RP as soon as money enters account. But if possible, let the funds trickle into the account over some days or so. But, any which case, be ready to answer where the money came from, they ask sometimes (I don't know if that happens when big money just dump in once (the case I've seen)). But nothing to fear.

AT THE NIGERIAN AIRPORT- FIRST TIME TRAVELLER
If you are travelling out of Nigeria for the first time, you need to avoid the trap I fell into. The strings of extortions and all that take place there is brazen and on another level - everyone wants to take his own "share" of what you have, since you have enough to leave the country.

In Sweden (Arland), your pal can be with you until you check in your luggage, then you hug and bid farewell before you head to the boarding point for other security checks. But in Abuja airport, your person is cut off before you check-in your luggage. I don't know any other reason for this if not for what happened to me.

I had heard they reject some food items you are travelling with, so I begged Dan, my guy, to take me to the airport and be with me until I board so if they reject anything, he would take it. Unfortunately, just before the check-in point, a uniformed person (I don't know what parastatal) asked who was travelling between us, and asked Dan not to go beyond that point.

Before we got there, customs had collected money from us, as if it was a mandatory contribution- they were even jostling for more as one said 'that one na for those people, give us awa own'. The check there was just cursory (or so I thought), one box was filled with food stuff and the other clothing, that was the first time I was leaving Nigeria ( October 2021).

When it was time to check my luggage, the young man scribbled something on a little piece of paper and sked me to go somewhere he pointed for payment for 'excess luggage' and 'extra luggage' (2 in 1). I asked how much that would be and he insisted that I would be informed when I get there. He warned that it wouldn't be small though.
,
When I got there, I was told my bill was N128,000. What! I rushed back to the boy and told him I didn't have that kind of money. Then he acted like he had a solution and told me to go buy 'ghana-must-go' bags to re-bag my stuff. I bought the bags for N2,000 each 'medium size'. I came back and he asked me to go re-bag them.

I stepped aside to do this. When I was done and came back, he said it was same and asked me to open up the box and move the things into the ghana-must-go bags, one by one. As I removed the items from here to there, he spotted and asked me to keep aside the packs of ground fish, ground beans, and two bottles of groundnut.

After packing and re-packing, he asked me to get yet another smaller ghana-must-go bag. When I went for this, one of the extortionists offered to help and took N2,500 and went and came back with a small bag saying the sellers had closed and he had to go down to get this one. After he handed it over, he disappeared. Time was ticking and it was getting closer to flight time, I was a little under pressure.

I came back to weigh the stuff again and he wrote the weights of everything on another piece of paper and asked me to go and pay at that same point. Nothing changed in the weight because we just re-weighed the same things minus the ones he wanted to steal. I proceeded to the pay point and they said my bill was N128,850. I was just angry and frustrated. I regretted making any move about the 're-bagging' in the first place.

I brought out my son's verve card to pay and they told me their POS was not working, that I would have to pay with cash. It was Turkish Airline. I asked where the ATM was and they asked me to go to one office to do a transfer and get cash. I went there and the man there said I would pay N12,800 for the cash. I left him immediately and headed for the ATM outside.

I got there and could only withdraw N100,000 (Verve daily limit). I begged a security man there so I could transfer money to his account and get the cash through him. He first announced that his account was in debit (which meant I would spend extra). Finally, I got the money with a 'sacrifice' on top.

I started racing back to pay and then proceed to check in. After checking, I headed to pick up my fish and beans and groundnut in anger. Lo and behold, the boy had closed and took my fish. If only he knew what my wife and mother went through to prep[are me for this trip, he would have avoided such evil. I took the beans and groundnut. But on a second thought, I dropped the beans because these would be in my backpack and could be mistaken as drug (so I thought, I no get strength for wahala). Even at the boarding point, the groundnut was taken away. Make dem enjoy!

What to do:
Check with the airline and know the weight you are entitled to. Make sure your big luggage don't exceed that (you might wanna buy a scale if you don't have one, not a bad investment if you are leaving it for someone behind to keep fit).

Secondly, get a small box, small enough to fit into the luggage compartment of the aircraft above your head, but big enough not to be a small one. This you can carry as a 'hand luggage'. Make sure the stuff in it should be just your clothes and personal effects. Keep it aside when checking in and don't let those hungry folks look at it twice.

All food items should be in the big boxes/bags checked in.

Another tip to add is, if you have a bag/box you are not sure of the keys or zip, to avoid someone sliding or taking something through, there is a section where they use waterproof machine to wrap your bags, 1k or 1.5k per bag or so. I did it for all my checked-in luggage, including the ghana-must-go. But I advise you avoid using ghana-must-go, you'll look like me arriving Europe when I did, I bet it was not posh at all. But the good thing for me was, I no send. But hey, you are not me. Plan from home and keep your cool.

Nice that you shared your experience

In my case, I had a smooth experience because I weighed mine before coming to the airport and knew the limits.

Very painful I left some of my games in Nigeria and I have to buy them at expensive price in sweden.

As for the extortion, just tell them, u don’t have and avoid being cornered or needing their help. U only give if it moves u to give them

One came to me to help carry my luggage, I told him, I can carry it myself, he said make I find am something, I just gave him 200naira

An advise, if u want to carry load, avoid Ghana must go, it will tear and na suffering be that

Also, print all printables, printed my COVID certificate for 1k, my mistake was thinking the airline would accept digital copy of the COVID certificate

Mehn, I had thought the excess luggage will cost me just 'small' money. My ghana must go tear, live, it was the wrapping sheet that held it intact. You needed to see me carrying ghana-must-go on my shoulder in Stockholm. If not for my classmate that came to my rescue at T-central (I pity the Oyibo woman sef, no be small suffer I pass her through that day).

The earlier you apply, the better. Check their immigration website for current average wait time. If you do now, then there are chances of being in Sweden well before August.

For COVID certificate, not sure if it is still required at the airport, u need to check the airline’s website/booking details to know the requirements

I suggest you book your flight directly, I had a terrible experience with one of the very popular agents.
BA seemed to be the cheapest then, but I had to cancel because I was told I needed a british passport or visa to fly BA.
Abuja was most convenient because na there I pick my RP, and took off next day.
