TempleHouse:
The pronounciation distorts beautiful presentation of programs which is akin to non performance because her ratings between 1-10 could fetch her btw 4-6.

Any ratings below 8 is not acceptable because some presenters had 9-10 ratings.

The Manager has a duty in his hands to decide if it’s okay to accept lower ratings and wield his axe.
What value did she not add?

I know this lady
She's an OAP in a popular radio station in Ibadan

Virtually everyone loves the radio programmes she anchor. To me, her "R" Factor is even one of the reasons why some enjoy the programmes.

'Eleha Zainabu', as popularly called by her favourite male colleague, it is well with you.
Better job ahead.
Eat your Id-el Fitr meat jejely like nothing happened.
Cheers!
I know the OAP too, Eleha Zainab, I love her presentation even that way. Is it her fault if she find it difficult to pronounce the "R" sound?. Inasmuch the listeners understand what she is saying, and everybody can understand that, isn't it?

A good girl you call her and you compromised your happy future over 'diciton deficiency'?

Oga, I hope you don't end up with the Nancy Isime kind that has her own constitution.
Re: Lady Loses Her OAP Job For Having A Speech Problem (Photo) by Bankowner: 7:33pm On May 02, 2022
You're wrong oga! The lady's problem with 'r' pronunciation is different and not that of the 'l' sound which is common with a particular tribe in Nigeria.

In any case, I want to believe there's more to this than the lady is letting on. I'll wait for the response from the concerned radio station before making my conclusion. I'd rather not fall to the danger of a single story.

You're wrong bro. The R factor is when you pronounce R as W. For instance, Precious would be Pweshious. Role would be Wole. Round would be Wound.

This is discrimination and she needs to sue their ass.

NB: Some people find it cute cos people with the R factor are quite rare.

Modified: I also have the R factor wink some people say I can't even pronounce my name properly cos it has an R in it. I don swear say I no go give my kids any name wet get R inside except my first son who must take my name sha.
Thanks for the explanation. I was confused at first, wondering when Yorubas started having r-factors. H-factor I know, not R. Reading your explanation, I know this too, but didn’t quite place it. cheesy

It gets annoying hearing it repeatedly on the radio. Reminds me of the lady that does announcements inside the Lagos-Abj train. Every time she said h-alight, (h)ead…etc. I just couldn’t wait for her to end her announcement.

In some cases, it's not that people with the r-factor cannot pronounce the R very well. It's just that they mix up the R and L interchangeably.

Thus she might say this: Keep Ristening to this Leydio station.

It is called Rhotacism. It isn't an uncommon speech impediment as many are suffering from it. The R letter is the most difficult and the last to learn and some kids never learn it even unto adulthood. I am a victim of this as well.

Recording your own voice is a great hack. The first time I recorded my voice, I shock. I sounded too igbotic and too fast and I realized why people were always saying eh? eh? anytime I spoke. Am working on it now.
Why will u do that if not inferiority complex.
Your voice is your number one identity.
What's wrong in sounding too igbotic.
Has it stopped you from going higher in life?
Will somebody not employ you cos you sound so igbotic?

So chinese people sound chinetic or Indian people?

Once you see a person, you identify that person with his accent and you can't be igbo or yoruba etc and want to claim British even in your fatherland if not self hate.

A British man will proudly call gbenga gì benga and he don't care. You wanna correct him, he will tell you forget it.

I have said it several times here.
Self hate put us where we are today.

You're welcome, Poco. R-factor people are in good company.

And yes, the H factor is something else. I usually can't control my laughter whenever I hear it.

You just reminded me of my Econs teacher back then in SS1.

Dude came to class for the first time and dictated the topic as "Mayor of Central Tendency" and he even did it repeatedly.

Na when he manage type am for board later we realise say na actually Measure of Central Tendency. grin

There is nothing wrong with sounding Igbotic. It is your identity.
