So, moved into a new apartment, Everything was fine until rain started and we noticed rain drops from the ceiling, signifying leaking roof.

Told the landlord, but he began giving hopes and flimsy excuses.

Took the matter to hand and contacted a carpenter. He got one tape (very strong tape, looks like the adhesive part is coaltar)

He patched the leaking place up in the roof, and we were glad.


To our surprise, the next time, that side wasn't leaking, but two other sides starts dripping.

Could it be that this carpenter intentionally opened a new hole so we can contact him again or it is a new leakage?

I don't think the carpenter will deliberately do that. Call him to come and fix it again as another place is leaking. U can look for money to get a permanent solution done but let there be an agreement between you and d landlord, so that if you use your money to fix it, you will deduct it from your next rent.

Landlords with their wahala, most of them are heartless......All they care about is their rent.



OP just get a carpenter to fix it and make sure you deduct it from the rent, it might lead to trouble sha if he's the troublesome type. Nigerian landlords don't know anything about maintenance culture.

If you want to get a permanent solution to the leakage , let the go to the top of the ceiling and from there he will see everywhere that need to be repaired.

Oga! Water will find it's way o. Maybe the carpenter blocked the outlet in the ceiling and not the roof itself. Water that gets in will surely find another outlet or the whole ceiling will get waterlogged and crash on you one of these days. Take videos next time and go show the landlord. His property too is at risk...he needs to fix it biko. Epele

So, I now called another carpenter who explained the situation of the roof that its from the arrangement of the woods and that it will cost me much to bring everything down and rearrange them again. Though he said he can't even risk doing the job cos it's just like you're building from the scratch. I was confused.

So at the fellowship that day, the pastor asked us to pray that God should open our eyes to the solution to our problems that it's right there in front of us. I prayed about the leaking roof.

That night after the fellowship, I went to get something from a mallam's shop and my spirit said look up and I saw tapolin on his roof. That was how I got the inspiration to the solution of the leaking roof.

I quickly called the last carpenter and asked him if we could use a tapolin for the roof and he said yes. That was how I gave him 12k. He got the tapolin and lined the roof. I don't know how he did it that you won't even see the tapolin and till today no matter the rain, no more leaking roof or ceiling.

Was it a permanent fix. The trampoline was placed over the roof or between the roof and ceiling please explain. My leaking roof wan give me high BP

We are many with this leaking roof issue.
Some workers have gone up to make repairs but made things worse.
It will be a blessing to get an experienced and honest workman to fix the roof.
