First time I knew what depression was ehh, you cannot believe it. It was the first time I actually saw someone that was hiv, someone I knew. Omo I shock!. This was in the late 1990s.
I looked at my lifestyle then and concluded no way no way. Ok go and do test, I no get liver! Instead I started reading about "abalaka" and his cure. One other man now late at ogba too that dealt in herbs.
I stated thinking, I stopped going out, food I could not eat, my paddies will come pick me up, for where? Instead I will give them money to go have "goodtime". I started going lean. People will call me to ask for loans etc, omo, I will just dash them(had good money then). I will just stay in the darkness, in my room, I wount feel hungry despite not eating for 2 days!
Mennn on the 3rd week, I forced myself to go do test. Those days it took 2-3days for result. The wait almost finished me. I almost drove to 3rd mainland.
The day I went for the result, maybe from my deposition the elderly man said I should wait he wanted to talk to me before giving me the result envelope! Mogbe! He started by saying hiv is not the end of the world. Father lord in heaven! I almost died!
After 5 min talk he gave me the envelope, I opened it and saw negative! Omo, I busted in tears! Baba de console me!
See that night my paddies shock when I agree commot, even the way I hail them them no understand why I de "Bleep up moni" that night.
Lol, all the people weh collect my money, I call them say na loan I give them ohh, make them make sure them pay me back!
Na so I for peme for nothing ontop mental wahala.
On the other hand, another person faced with same issue will just walk in and do the test as if nothing nothing.
Yeas back na so a successful professional lady for my area jump for 3rd mainland. All because her younger sisters don marry, born, only her still de papa house! She get money brand new car etc. But depression set in.

I cannot claim to be in her shoes but I believe no single challenge or the complexities of life is worth taking ones life.
Folks do not realise and often underestimate what the church and a life of faith in Christ does for all humanity and for this country in particular.

For under the banner of the gospel of peace, hope and love millions find succor and learn to put up with this grueling and torrid life we live in Nigeria. One can only imagine the stats, probably multiple times the number of suicides, crime incidents and other anti-social vices that will have pervaded the land.

But the funny thing is that the banner that the Christian faith provides has also been abused by all those in the camp of the causatives, those who have ganged up to make our lives a living hell but pretend to be sheep and so cannot be chased out the temple of God as abusers of God's Holy temple and wolves and devourers of God's precious people.

And this inability to separate the affairs of church and State in the minds of citizens has dampened the influence of the Church to building social justice and being a real, solid agent for good in the wider context of life in Nigeria.
Till that last puzzle is found more lives will continue to be lost needlessly.

Lagos telecoms accountant commits suicide, friend blames depression

A Lagos accountant, Folake Abiola, has committed suicide at her residence at Osapa London, in the Lekki area of Lagos State.

PUNCH Metro gathered that the 45-year-old was at her house on Friday when she allegedly drank what was suspected to be insecticide.

She was said to have died shortly after, as her family members, friends and men of the Nigeria Police Force met her lying motionless.

A colleague of the deceased, who spoke to our correspondent on condition of anonymity, said Abiola had been suffering from depression for years, adding that the news of her death was shocking.

Contrary to claims online that Abiola committed suicide due to loneliness, lack of a husband, among others, the colleague said her associates knew that she had been in romantic relationships, adding that she ended them due to depression.

The source said, “She had been suffering from depression for years and her death has nothing to do with loneliness or lack of a husband or sex. Within the last seven years, I know she was in a relationship twice.

“She ended those relationships on her own because of depression. She said she did not want to bring someone else into her life when she could not take care of herself. She was going through extreme depression, but people that did not know what she was going through have been posting rubbish online.

She was a senior accountant at a telecoms firm and we are colleagues. She took her life herself and was buried that same Friday as she was the only Christian in her family.”

The colleague described Abiola as an angel, a conscientious accountant and a lover of Christ, who was liberal in giving, adding that she had been saying she wanted to end it all before she took her life.

“In Nigeria, we don’t pay attention to mental health; a lot of people are going through depression and it is not necessary that it has to be caused by anything,” she added.

A source said the deceased worked with Globacom Limited, adding that she was on leave when the incident happened.

She recently celebrated her 45th birthday. She was not talking to people; she always kept to herself,” the source added.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, said the police visited Abiola’s house and met her lifeless body on the floor.

Hundeyin said, “The moment the police in that area were alerted, they arrived at the scene and met the woman lifeless on the floor. A bottle of insecticide was also found by her, apparently, she had ingested that insecticide.

“The family members that were there officially wrote to the divisional police officer requesting for the release of the corpse to enable them to bury her in accordance with Islamic rites and the corpse was released to the family on compassionate grounds.”

Depression is a leading cause of suicide in Nigeria as experts decry lack of proper :Pawareness of mental health in the country.

In December 2021, a Diploma holder, Lekan Odunare, was filmed jumping into the lagoon.

His wife, Sofiat Amusa, later claimed he was driven by depression and frustration.

LONELINESS is a miserable slow-killing disease A colleaque of man died a miserable death from it. He has a minor issues with his wife and send the woman packing she left with the kids.. everybody beg he should please bring the wife back.. their pastor, family members..the pleading fell on deaf ear and this was a guy that doesn't even interact with his neighbors. In the middle of the night he got sick(he left work hale and hearty) probably called for help but nobody admit hearing him. It was the incessant called of the office to find out our he is not at work that make the wife to check him that his copse was discover about to burst from swelling.

Making money is necessary, but never over look the very Important things.
