There is more to that and I know case had closed as soon as the family takes d corpse for burial.

That is why I don't blame ladies who party hard just to keep sane. Sincerely, the society is not fair to the women folk at times owing to the pressure of marriage.

Besides, I always advise ladies, once you are done with the first degree, settle down. However, some keep chasing more degrees and building careers thereby making the men folk to be scared of them as being too independent.

I wish the police can dig.deeper into the case of sniper ingestion, possibly murder. But Nigerian police....story for another day.

Loneliness can mess one up. In as much as I have families and friends that I still talk to on daily, sometimes I just want to run back to naija, because this place is damn lonely. You can say hello and hi to people but deep down, you know that’s not it.

I know the pressure I face from family, peers and colleagues. It is not easy but I've resolved not to be pushed into unprepared marriage on account of pressures.

Just like other problems men face, y'all refuse to see the pressures when it concerns men but once it's about women, you rant about it. It's clear that women get things easy in the society while men are left to sweat it out. But you still make it appear like the society is fairer to men than women whilst the reverse is the case.

I am sorry about your ordeal. I don't know what situation you are in, but it will get better. There's always light at the end of the tunnel. I have been there. Occasionally, I still suffer bouts of depression too, maybe because I am melancholic.

But then, I can only be my cheerleader and tell myself that it'll get better. If you give in to suicide, you'll suffer, and so also will your loved ones suffer because your death will cause them anguish.

I am sure you won't want them to.

[s]So sad but then again, I won't accept that no man ever approached her. However, I know it's a difficult task to find the right man that suits her and maybe she saw but was not single.

Honestly, women should learn to share and accommodate their fellow women to share a man because I believe, the more the merrier. it may not have been the perfect scenario but she would have probably lived a more fulfilled life.

One thing I know in this life from experience is that we need to build the right character and imbibe positive attitudes in ourselves. Marriage doesn't work out because we married one man or one woman but because we behave right and respect our partners even when it seems hard and bruises our egos. When we begin to understand that we are purposed differently with mutually exclusive traits, and there is no basis for comparison, tolerating ourselves would be easier, and believe me, we will still end up with desired results.

I never doubted she's depressed. Yes, depression is real.

I am only saying that connecting her marital status as the reason for her depression hence suicide could be erroneous.

There are several other things that can depress a single lady other than not having a husband and children.

We just celebrated the marriage during easter.

Suicide is the best way to end this pain called life. If u are grateful for life another has the right to want to leave it. Suicide is human will triumphing over the will of creation. The force that puts creation in motion. It's the ultimate decision that tells the creator I don't want Ur life(pain) and u can't force it on me. I have the right to reject it. Lagos telecoms accountant commits suicide, friend blames depression

A Lagos accountant, Folake Abiola, has committed suicide at her residence at Osapa London, in the Lekki area of Lagos State.

PUNCH Metro gathered that the 45-year-old was at her house on Friday when she allegedly drank what was suspected to be insecticide.

She was said to have died shortly after, as her family members, friends and men of the Nigeria Police Force met her lying motionless.

A colleague of the deceased, who spoke to our correspondent on condition of anonymity, said Abiola had been suffering from depression for years, adding that the news of her death was shocking.

Contrary to claims online that Abiola committed suicide due to loneliness, lack of a husband, among others, the colleague said her associates knew that she had been in romantic relationships, adding that she ended them due to depression.

The source said, “She had been suffering from depression for years and her death has nothing to do with loneliness or lack of a husband or sex. Within the last seven years, I know she was in a relationship twice.

“She ended those relationships on her own because of depression. She said she did not want to bring someone else into her life when she could not take care of herself. She was going through extreme depression, but people that did not know what she was going through have been posting rubbish online.

She was a senior accountant at a telecoms firm and we are colleagues. She took her life herself and was buried that same Friday as she was the only Christian in her family.”

The colleague described Abiola as an angel, a conscientious accountant and a lover of Christ, who was liberal in giving, adding that she had been saying she wanted to end it all before she took her life.

“In Nigeria, we don’t pay attention to mental health; a lot of people are going through depression and it is not necessary that it has to be caused by anything,” she added.

A source said the deceased worked with Globacom Limited, adding that she was on leave when the incident happened.

She recently celebrated her 45th birthday. She was not talking to people; she always kept to herself,” the source added.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, said the police visited Abiola’s house and met her lifeless body on the floor.

Hundeyin said, “The moment the police in that area were alerted, they arrived at the scene and met the woman lifeless on the floor. A bottle of insecticide was also found by her, apparently, she had ingested that insecticide.

“The family members that were there officially wrote to the divisional police officer requesting for the release of the corpse to enable them to bury her in accordance with Islamic rites and the corpse was released to the family on compassionate grounds.”

Depression is a leading cause of suicide in Nigeria as experts decry lack of proper awareness of mental health in the country.

In December 2021, a Diploma holder, Lekan Odunare, was filmed jumping into the lagoon.

His wife, Sofiat Amusa, later claimed he was driven by depression and frustration.
