Boyhood:

Not How, instead you should be asking when did he buy?

He said he bought it 3 months ago....

The question should be, is it possible to get dollar at 430 three months ago?

The story no clear

A fresh bond advert is up on the DMO website as we speak with Auction Date of next Monday June 20, 2022 and Settlement Date of Wednesday June 22, 2022. (https://www.dmo.gov.ng/fgn-bonds/bonds-offer-circular/3944-june-2022-fgn-bond-offer-circular/file)

In it there are three offers. Each is worth the same amount of N75bn

13.53% FGN Mar 2025 (10 Year Re-Opening)
12.50% FGN APR 2032 (10 Year Re-Opening)
13.00% FGN JAN 2042 (20 Year Re-Opening)

Can anyone please assist in the simplest way possible, with the correct interpretation of say for instance if one were to key into the third one for this coming auction? Will it simply imply that I would receive 13% of my invested value bi-annually for the next 20 years? If this would not be so, by how much would this 13% be reduced? Your assistance is coveted Gurus. Thank you in advance.

Before the folks that really understand it come to throw more light on it for you. Please know that the 13% interest there is annual. Interests rates are calculated annually except where otherwise stated. So 13% annually is simply 6.5% bi- annually for 20 years.

For a re-opening bond, after paying the premium on it, you probably get 8% per annum of lucky, similar to buying bond at secondary market undecided

Born2conquer:

E con be like sey make person dey hold hard currency make sense pass

When I made this post, dollar was 580, today it is 605.
Eurobond fund is the way to go. If the devaluation trend continues, money held in eurobond fund will return 27% appreciation against naira annually.
7% - from interest accrued
20% - appreciation due to devaluation

pizapato:

Over the last 3 years, the naira has consistently lost about 20% of its value per year

Jan 2020: 1$ = #360 | Dec 2020: 1$ = #460
Jan 2021: 1$ = #470 | Dec 2021: 1$ = #560
Jan 2022: 1$ = #560 | Dec 2022: 1$ = #?

Currently dollars sells between 580-590, by the end of the year it might sell for 660 if the pattern continues.
Investing in dollar dominated asset at 5% per annum will give 25% return annually when you factor in devaluation.

Any investment in naira that is not returning minimum of 20% per annum is not worth it because of the possibility of naira losing beyond 20% of its value in that period.

Better to convert your money to dollar and hide it under your pillow grin
