Ekzoba: Alleged N250m Anambra money: Police launches fresh investigation By ikenna Anyanwu Contrary to speculations that the case of recent recovery of a whooping sum of N250 million in cash in a private office of Governor Peter Obi of Anambra State in Apapa, Lagos by eagle-eyed policemen in Lagos has been rested, indications emerged over the week that Police authorities in Abuja have commenced thorough investigations into the matter. This is just as untold details of the circumstances that led to the strange discovery and the role played by all the parties involved including the Police were unfolded by reliable police sources at the Force Headquarters in Abuja. Saturday Vanguard gathered that on the said day, which was Sunday, Police authorities in Lagos received information from one of the aides to Governor Peter Obi that a huge sum of money was been conveyed to the Governor's private company at Aerodrome road in Apapa, Lagos. Based on this, Lagos State Police Commissioner, Marvel Akpoyibo led some of his officers including the Area Commander in Apapa and they stormed the company. Police sources said on getting to the scene, they saw the exotic jeeps that transported the money which were arraigned in suit cases inside the premises. The Police reportedly instructed one of the aids to the Governor who was seen there to inform the Governor of their intention to inspect the vehicles. At this juncture, according to reports, the Governor instructed his aides not to open the vehicles until he comes to Lagos. As soon as the Commissioner of Police was informed of the Governor’s directive, he reportedly deployed policemen to guard the vehicles until the arrival of the Governor. That Sunday, at about 2.30 pm, both the Commissioner of Police and Governor Obi arrived the scene with their entourage and the Police Commissioner insisted that the vehicles must be thoroughly searched in the presence of everybody because the information received was a case of arms and ammunition being stockpiled for the 2010 election in Anambra State. Governor Obi who was reportedly not comfortable with the Commissioner˜s directive was said to had capitulated by directing his aids to open the vehicle and this led to the discovery of the whooping sum of N250 million. Saturday Vanguard learnt that at this stage, the Commissioner of police quickly alerted the Inspector-General of Police, Sir Mike Okiro who directed that the Governor should make a statement over the discovery. Sources said that in his statement, Governor Obi stated that the money found in the vehicles belongs to Anambra State and that it was meant for payment to one of their contractors who wanted cash. It was gathered also that when the police asked Governor Obi why he should pay such a huge amount of money in cash instead of draft or cheque, the Governor could not give reasonable answer. It was then that the Inspector~General of Police directed that the money should be paid back to Anambra State government account without delay. On Monday the following day, both the Commissioner of Police and Governor Obi reportedly moved to Spring bank where the money was paid into Anambra State Government account and a photocopy of the deposit slip made and handed over to the Commissioner of Police. Saturday Vanguard also learnt that what fueled police suspicion over the money was that they also got information that the Governor was billed to travel out of the country a week after the money was intercepted. To worsen the speculation, Governor Obi reportedly traveled overseas after the incident. It was at this stage that the Inspector~General of Police who was properly briefed on the incident directed the Force Criminal Investigations Department under Deputy Inspector~General of Police, Israel Ajao to take over the case and unravel the mystery surrounding the movement of the cash from Anambra State to Lagos. The IGP˜s directive was also said to have been prompted by the fact that the contractor whom Governor Obi claimed owns the money never showed up at all stages of the discovery and the fact that Lagos state Police Command preliminary investigations revealed a case of money laundering against the Governor. So far, sources at the Force headquarters said detectives will soon conclude their investigations into the matter based on the fact that Police authorities vowed to get to the root of the case without fear or favor. https://www.vanguardngr.com/2009/07/alleged-n250m-anambra-money-police-launches-fresh-investigation/?s=08 Please copy and share

Nedum1979:there is a parish close to that place they don't want to attend mass they want their adoration with Mbaka. if they want to worship there are many catholic churches around that same area. Fr. Mbaka actually runs the place and decides what happens with the offering, it is his ministry not the diocese's there is no sacrilege there. a bishop can close up a parish recognized by canon law, what is a ministry which isn't even recognized by canon law that he isnt justified in closing |

He should have called his flock to order. Is he trying to tug with his bishop ni? These people are terribly misguided and do not know the true meaning of Christianity. To them Mbaka's word is law unto them and not the word of God. Look at that one screaming no more Onaga and she was asked what the Bishop did and she couldn't give any reply but simply walked away. She may not even know what the protest is about. Herd mentality is very dangerous. 3 Likes |

desiredhome: It is not because he spoke against a politician dont twist this to suit your support for Mbaka. Every organization has a guideline and the Catholic church is not exempted Mbaka has been warned severally by the head of Enugu Chaplaincy under which the adoration ministry is covered but he kept doing same and this particular one is again contrary to the church guidelines and its teachings. You can not course a man just because he refused to give you Money of which the man in question only asked you to show him your project so he can see how and where to help from but can not send money to anyone and generally there is nothing wrong with that. Mbaka said in 2015 that his god told him Buhari is a messiah sent to rescue Nigeria but what do we have its high time they stop him else he will do more harm than good to the Church by loosing her believers. So as you are now if you ask someone for money and he refused to give you start to course the fellow you support that?? Mbaka no try he messed up simple! 1 Like |

HIPROFILE: First of ...I am not a fan of Father Mbaka and I'm not one of his supporters.... Now the main reason the center was shutdown is because he called Peter Obi a stingy man...... ...but Mbaka had also used the same position to insult a seating president yet his church was not closed....... The things of God is beyond the physical..... what's if God was still using Mbaka to advice PO?...... several times in this religious section you will often hear some christians tell others to allow God judge when their pastors are wrong....... My is question for all the people that are supporting (the Christians) the closure of the church is what if it was the government that closes Adoration center (a worship center) will you not cause religious crisis? And start a propaganda against the government?....... And you are closing a church because of ordinary politician?..... |

desiredhome: For any right thinking person if the closure of any church is justified be it by government or the church authority then so be it. Some of this things are done for disciplinary purposes. Bro there has been some circular in which father Mbaka has been admonished by the catholic leadership in the past due to his over zealous meddling and speeches in connection to politics yet he continued same. As per the bolded please note, Peter Obi never and can never shutdown Adoration ministry he has no such power Even if he does the person of Peter Obi can not do that. the catholic leadership did possibly to let Mbaka know they can employ such disciplinary action if that is what it would take to curtail his excesses. again bro no matter how anointed or powerful he has become his ministry is under an administrative head to which he should submit to and not the other way round. His excesses is becoming unbearable as he sometimes go out of biblical teachings and guidelines this one is just the height of it, you dont course a man because he told you to show him what project you have so he know how he can help. Mbakas reaction is against christianity the Pope cant even support such. He need to be cautioned seriously else it will affect the church. He should face his pastoral activities meddling into politics for any form of benefit is wrong. Its a different thing if he now wants to join politics and contest for elections. Or make it clear that the Adoration ground has become rather an electoral Campaign ground where who wins or looses an election is made known depending on candidates of highest bidder huh. Did you not see how Nigerians and even some of his followers back lashed him? and by saying those things to Obi it simply means he has a very poor understanding. Every right thinking person who loves this Country should know Peter Obi is the kind of leader Nigeria needs right now and not those who would come in to dry up the remains of Buhari effects on Nigerians this 7 years to their personal and family selfish interest.
