My town is Eziowelle in Idemilli North of Anambra state.
Visiting home sometimes this pythons come to our compound.

Born and brought up in Lagos na so I go dey run like fowl only for my parents and the rest of the family to say that the snake is indeed harmless.

And truly it is harmless. People say it came to welcome it's children

Tradition is awesome. At least, with this the snakes will not be an endangered specie.

Awka and Amawbia are different people with different origins.

Awka aborigines do not kill monkeys, infact you'll see monkeys around Eke-Awka and Amaenyi and environs playing happily on trees, but if the monkey crosses into Amawbia, it may find itself in a pot of soup.
Conversely, you don't kill pythons in Amawbia, but if the python misses it road to Awka, na big meat.

Infact, these animals seem to even know the boundaries better than humans and never seem to cross boundaries from where they tolerated or conserved into another.

There is actually a funny song by a traditional musician about different Igbo towns and people and animals that they consider taboo to hurt.

Funny enough the snakes don't attack the locals at all.. no later the danke when it's in that vicinity it doesn't attack them
. It's amazing to witness really... You can leave your new born baby the snake will just pass it and go it's way.

Not in that state... Was there on a project and saw where a 6 ft python was dragged away from a land the kids wanted to work on. The boy who dragged it wasn't older than 10.years ... He dragged the huge snake to another path where it won't be harmed ..

The snake didn't struggle at all as if it knows these people don't hurt them.. it went away..

And na which hunger go catch Igbo man to the extent of eating a taboo snake meat when all other commonly acceptable edible meats are available? Who knows, perhaps they did eat this so called forbidden python meat during the Naija/Biafran war out of sheer desperation and starvation. I guess the gods of the land, or the man-made gods turned a blind eye to that kind of situation, if that was the case.

This is a harmless culture and should be respected since no one is being harmed in the process. But I say this only for rational reasons, not because it is a culture. There are some cultural practices that should be done away with because they cause harm, are misogynistic or are outdated. For instance, the practice of widows shaving their head especially with razor blades is barbaric and should be done away with or amended. Another barbaric practice is the payment of bride price and the fact that women are not allowed to inherit their father's property.

In my place women inherit do maybe your culture needs to upgrade itself

The info is true. If you kill Idemili python,the people will hold you responsible and if you do strong head, they will show you vawulence Koro Koro . I am from Anambra too and it is not only in Idemili that killing of python is forbidden. In my own local government,Ihiala, it is forbidden. It may interest you to know also that there are towns in Anambra that kill and eat python,it is Umunze town. It is not a state thing,rather depends on the town

Also in Anaocha LGA whose capital is Neni, you don't kill python(Eke). Did my Nysc there 2011/2012 service year, batch B.

It is true, almost all Anambra regions don't kill python and they are not harmful to them in return. In olden days, heard that they perform burial rite for them if killed. But nowadays I rarely hear that.
