the nurse actually went too far. I will also blame the doctor. For us in Engineering - construction, housekeeping is everyone's business. Be you MD, Project Manager, Fitter, or whatever.... you are expected to participate in housekeeping.

This is outright incorrect.Would the Matron try that nonsense against a Reg or Senior Reg or even MO?

Or is she picking on the female HO because "she (the HO) is rude"

In that same OAUTHC, a consultant had insisted on not just discarding the waste she used but rinsing equipments up before other professionals would do the cleaning up and send for sterilisation. That's someone who knows what handling of wastes generated entails as a health professional.

It is the duty of the person who generates a waste to discard it...this OAUTHC one now still happened to be an hazardous one at that.

How hard is it to employees a cleaner that can clean up after the doctors finished performing surgery .

To avoid things like this been repeated sad

A cleaner doesn’t have the knowledge of how to dispose medical waste and is only a channel that put the cleaner at risk as well as others, needle stick injuries, infections from exposure to bodily fluids, them transmitting contamination to other surfaces and or persons just to mention a few. It’s is part of the procedure to discard waste that has been generated by the person that generated it.

Cleaning does not mean using rag and mopping stick to clean the operating room, it simply means removing all instruments the surgeon used that was placed beside the patient and littered all over the place, then placing them in a place where it will be watched properly.
And also discarding every sharp objects in the the proper place
After that, the cleaners can now come in and clean the theatre, they have no business with the instruments

This is against the ethics of nursing profession. Where's the team work?

That’s not team work, team work is in relation to the care of the patient and not making excuse for a medical negligence. A nurse is not a doctors assistant, is a pharmacist a doctors assistant? Because they work in closest contact than other healthcare professionals doesn’t mean u and anyone else should blur the job description of a nurse. The only nurse u will say doing such are those in private hospitals employed by doctors and quacks, trained by doctors

You don’t see a doctor coming to help a nurse to clean up after she has doing a procedure such as wound dressing do u? Do u see a physiotherapist help a doc to clean up his mess?

Or should nurses also help the doc to clean his ass after he has use the toilet.

The nurse is so bitter and full of hate. She's so jealous and I wonder how the colleagues have manage to cope with her excesses.
Let the Surgeon General intervene and show her that Buhari is too big to be called to come get the doctor out. She should be posted to Irabigi.

It's standard medicine practice that whosoever generate waste should dispose it.

Put the waste in the right places accordingly. The doctor ought to dispose the waste

For a nurse to do that to a doctor means she's sleeping with the CMD or a high ranking medical director in the hospital and the doctor has zero authority over her.

This I have seen.

That's not the role of a cleaner.

WHO said whoever generates waste must discard it. In my practice outside Nigeria, I've never witnessed a doctor or nurse generate any waste and ask cleaners to wipe off. It is all shades of wrong. I've never seen a doctor waited on me to bring case notes or organise equipments for them to use. Just show them where the items are. It is disheartening to see these kind of rubbish from doctors and nurses and patients suffering.

Can she lock a doctor up in your practice abroad? You can comment on not carrying notes or equipment for Doctors, but cannot comment on your colleague locking a doctor up, as you don't have the facts?

Can you nurses try this abroad, without NMC enjoying a date with you?

i dont think any one or nurse will go far to this extent if she knew she has no case . something must have embolden her to take this action. i am sure if she permitted to state her own side of the story , she will have some points to defend her stance

Was once at a hospital somewhere in the West where I saw signage written in Yoruba but with images depicting assault, and when I asked about it, I was told that persons are fond of beating up doctors or medical workers and as such the need to educate the public that it's a wrong act. I never knew even nurses beat up doctors too.
The decadence in our society is obvious in all professions.

Doctors have some responsibility in disposing biohazardous material
Why should someone be employed to "clean up after doctors"
Is anyone employed to wipe people's asses when they use toilets?
If you use a face mask you should dispose it yourself. If you use sharps you should discard appropriately.
I am not commenting on the incident above because I do not think we have all the facts but employing cleaner to clean up after doctors is a bizarre suggestion
Disposal of biohazardous material is a serious matter with all round responsibility and doctors have a key role in this effort; not leaving biological/hazardous material about creating risks to other staff and patients

Bizarre? Just ask them to be sweeping their offices themselves now

Nurse doesn’t understand there’s a hierarchy in hospitals as well
She truly doesn’t know the implication of what she did.
You are employed as a nurse or theatre assistant to do the dirty job
Better yet call attendants or cleaners to do it
It’s the same with first world countries too

Doctors are becoming endangered in this country with every passing day.

Many of the other health care workers who could not gain admission to study medicine vent their anger on them.

Many who could not survive the med school heat and have to change program vent their anger on them.

They successfully formed unions and associations to intensify their fight against doctors.

Even the Government not helping matters.

No wonder our doctors are running in their numbers to any other country including small Oman.

May God help Nigerian people

Your reasoning is biased.

Cleaning should not be part of the doctor's job.

Everyone has a duty.

Even in a place like a movie set, there are people doing things like makeups, and wiping makeups and even helping actors get into dresses.

It does not mean pride or anything. It's about making everything efficient and flawless.

You probably don't care if the doctor has spent hours or overnight on surgery standing on his feet. And then still task the same team (not just the doctor) to clean up.

Please learn to think.

Even common offices have cleaners taking care of the cleaning before workers come in.

Plus, the nurse had no right to force a doctor to clean. Assuming after a surgery, the doctor must clean up and he was too tired, do you expect the nurse to lock him up?

That nurse must be suspended and her certificate withdrawn

What is wrong with you guys? The first time you're actually rooting for a presidential candidate shouldn't turn to madness. Yes we all know you're all just catching cruse but its sometimes disgusting.
Both South, North and East almost see Buhari as the chosen one but here we're today left with empty economy and insecurity.
My take is, sell your candidate in a way that we would know who he's and his manifesto and also how he plan to deal with issues at hand and not just random "Vote Peter Obi" "We're Obidient to the End".

Give women small power and they become beasts.
These so called gender wants to become governor's and head of state.
Shior.

Several years back. I was given cheque from Lagos by a client to cash in my state of residence. I was having only my international passport as a means of identification. It was a Friday and once I can't cash it, I would have to wait till Monday. There was nothing at home for my family. I went to bank to cash it and got to the cashier who is a female. She checked by he cheque front and back and asked for my ID. I gave her my passport and she looked at me.

"Mr GoodisGod your passport expired two days ago. I was startled I collected it and checked and it was true.
"I am sorry I didn't know until now" I said.
"Any other ID?" She asked.
I said I don't have another
"I can't pay you " she said and called the next on the queue.
"Sister please help me. It's just two days of expiration. I need this money" I pleaded.
" I am sorry I can't pay you" she repeated.
I hurriedly left for another bank before the closing hour. And it was a lady at the counter again. She looked at the passport and said same thing.

"I am sorry it is wrong for me to pay you with expired ID"

I left the bank for another and the thought of my family going hungry through the weekend was bothering me.
This time around I promised myself I won't go before a female cashier no matter what.

I entered the bank and it was my turn in front of a gentleman.
I gave him the cheque and he asked for my ID. I gave him the ID. Then he looked me in the face.

"Mr. GoodisGod your passport expired two days ago" he said.
"Yes I replied. Im sorry I have no other and I need the cash for the weekend" I replied.
"Go and renew it or get another form of ID. When next you come with this I won't pay you" the guy said and he started counting the money. grin

I breathed a breath of relief.
And since that day, I prefer a male cashier to the females. Even when all my documents are on point.

Ladies change your attitudes. You are made beautiful, so your behavior should be beautiful likewise. grin

Johesu sent Doctors packing from Nigerian hospitals. It did not take 6months the nurses too escaped from the same Nigerian hospitals to the UK.

Sadly the nurses got to Uk and lost their voice. They are not asking for the same salary as Doctors, but are happy to do band 5 or 6 pay.

The anyhowness in Naija is a different scale.

Doctors too get their big wahala, someone should carry pen for you, bring stethoscope for you. They get to UK and push trolley for them self, and even push patients on wheelchair grin grin

Make everybody from Johesu to resident Doctors getat, no levels!
