What nonsense are you talking about? Nurses act as assistants and finish off where Doctors stop. Besides there are also ward maids. That Nurse deserves punishment.
As assistant? Oh wow!

You’ve obviously never watched dr 90210 or medical documentaries.
Precisely the part when the doctor is done with the operation
Learn and don’t be ignorant
It’s good practice to keep a clean theatre or workstation however once the doctor is through with the operation assistants usually take over.

I think the doctor would have done that if politely requested

Watched? Ok I’ll be a fool if I reply again lmao, she said watched, omg lmao, omg omg. Thanks for the info I’ll try to get more info from the documentaries. I must have been talking to 5 year old

Can she lock a doctor up in your practice abroad? You can comment on not carrying notes or equipment for Doctors, but cannot comment on your colleague locking a doctor up, as you don't have the facts?

Can you nurses try this abroad, without NMC enjoying a date with you?

Can you Doctors try it abroad and not enjoy the axe of GMC? It's not cool we do what's right outside home but paint houses with poo in our country.

Doctors have some responsibility in disposing biohazardous material
Why should someone be employed to "clean up after doctors"
Is anyone employed to wipe people's asses when they use toilets?
If you use a face mask you should dispose it yourself. If you use sharps you should discard appropriately.
I am not commenting on the incident above because I do not think we have all the facts but employing cleaner to clean up after doctors is a bizarre suggestion
Disposal of biohazardous material is a serious matter with all round responsibility and doctors have a key role in this effort; not leaving biological/hazardous material about creating risks to other staff and patients

I am a doc. This is unacceptable not because of hierarchy but locking that door is imprisonment of a health professional in the discharge of her duty. For the entire ARD to strike they know what happened is bad. Now back to the life long nurse doctor discord. Whether this nurse like it or not, hierarchy exists in medicine. Even if a doctor has only spent one day in the profession, a doctor is always head. It is like the military. This hierarchy exists because there needs to be a clear line of command obedience to save lives. Now to the question of who cleans up after a surgery. Theatre nurses are called scrub nurse for a reason. They are in charge of basic set up before the surgery, assisting in handing instruments and cleaning afterward, or delegating to their nursing assistants. Simple and plain. The matron needs to be sanctioned and anywhere in the world the same will follow. And charges can even be pressed against her for imprisonment in sane environments.

Why do there seem to be an unnecessarily competition from Nurses against Doctors,
Everybody is blaming the Doctor for leaving behind the equipments, okay if we assume she was supposed to do all the cleaning,
Although the post said she cleaned up some things,
And let us assume their is no cleaner trained in handling medical equipments which I doubt, because I see cleaners doing the cleaning for Doctors all the time, buh let me not argue with
“Generator should clean the Generated waste “crew

Why is no one talking about how wrong and hoodlum-like the attitude of the Matron is, who locked up a whole doctor, and we know she only did this because the said nurse is a House Officer that she can disrespect at Will and not a full blown resident Doctor
Why are Nurses always like this towards doctors

Let me guess you want your child to read medicine lol

This does not warrant a strike. You cannot use peoples lives as a bargaining tool

The strike leaders should be given a warning before it starts, and arrested if it starts

The Nurse in question should be arrested on charges of kidnapping, the doctor's can press charges, but definately not a strike

This is absolutely wrong.

No Nurse is an assistant. Every single person is doing their job and no one is a subordinate in their roles.

It is only in Nigeria that Doctors believe they are superior to Nurses.

Inasmuch as there is hierarchy in hospitals, that does not mean you can't discard sharp objects that might hurt the person who came to clean it.

It's not the responsibility of a Nurse or a cleaner to remove used sharp objects for doctors
Anyone who uses a material used learn how to discard it properly, life goes on

Exactly...sometimes this year, a sharp managed to get its way into the orange bag and pricked a domestic staff while she was packing. Well it was a huge incident here, it was cascaded to hospital governance team and see mails flying everywhere.

Majority want to enjoy abroadlike care in naija but we don't want to put in the commitments and humility that makes it happen.

Many of the other health care workers who could not gain admission to study medicine vent their anger on them.

Many who could not survive the med school heat and have to change program vent their anger on them.

They successfully formed unions and associations to intensify their fight against doctors.

Even the Government not helping matters.

No wonder our doctors are running in their numbers to any other country including small Oman.

May God help Nigerian people

That is one problem I have with Nigeria.
You see how unemployment is killing everyone, yet no one thinks of how to generate income to employ people.

A doctor shouldn't be disposing waste, that should be an avenue for an unskilled labour to gain employment.

In a standard Hospital, a doctor doesn't have authority over a nurse, everyone with their own area of specialisation. A doctor is not an alpha and Omega of any hospital. I condemned this act though and I think Nigeria government must do something about rivalry between nurses and doctors in Nigeria.

Locking the doctor up is so wrong. My boss cannot lock me up in my office even if I refuse to do my job. The nurse broke the law. Freedom of movement Is a right.

It is a case of using madness to cure madness. From the nurse's account she reminded them politely thrice to please dispose the waste before leaving which they promised to. The HO is a fresh Dr and should not have inculcated bad habits yet.
Because Nigeria is a mad country. In a sane country, she does not need to shout, once she has politely reminded the Dr to dispose the waste generated by them and they didn't, next is to write an incident report cos leaving sharps lying about is not normal. They don't joke with infection control. The patient sef is enough to report you cos they know their rights.

I trained in OAU and they have practically turned it to a norm to leave behind wastes after doing anything on the ward. If you are not careful while changing patients linen, you could get pricked by a needle stuck into the bed by a careless Dr while putting in a cannula
The clinical waste bins and sharps box are easily accessible on the ward but the demi-god status has made them forget basic infection control policies.

One had the guts to document in a patient's case note that he did not review a patient because the nurse on duty said she was busy and cannot go and pick up stethoscope for him. This is something that he can be struck off and lose his license for in a sane country but the average Nigerian will even be the one to support him that he did right as a whole Dr who did not have the sense to have his own stethoscope he should not descend low to go and pick a stethoscope up from a trolley.

It is when we travel we see this life no hard, there should be team work not rivalry and the patient is the most important person in healthcare not the Dr not the nurse or any other health professional. We all treat ourselves with respect and dignity not I am too big to do this cos it is the patient that will suffer last last.

Your reasoning is biased.

Cleaning should not be part of the doctor's job.

Everyone has a duty.

Even in a place like a movie set, there are people doing things like makeups, and wiping makeups and even helping actors get into dresses.

It does not mean pride or anything. It's about making everything efficient and flawless.

You probably don't care if the doctor has spent hours or overnight on surgery standing on his feet. And then still task the same team (not just the doctor) to clean up.

Please learn to think.

Even common offices have cleaners taking care of the cleaning before workers come in.

Plus, the nurse had no right to force a doctor to clean. Assuming after a surgery, the doctor must clean up and he was too tired, do you expect the nurse to lock him up?

That nurse must be suspended and her certificate withdrawn
Wtf! Which college of medicine you go bruv? I wan check something.
If he was to tired then he will go get a rest and come back to clean.
Nurses too get tired.
Nurses ain't doctor's slave. How do y'all even think? Why the whole superiority thing?

I dont understand yoruba but I can get ths gist from all other conversations around.
I have seen a doctor and a senior nurse quarrel at a very good primary health care center. What comes to mind is that most times some doctors have this superior airs over nurses. Junior nurses may keep quiet but the senior nurses don't.
The issue then is;
- who has the job description to clean up after a medical precedure?
- does this lack of clean up happen more often than not?

If only we all do what we are employed to do, then the world would be a better place and to the nurse for the matron to padlock the gate, it means this has become an issue of irritation on her fellow colleagues but having said this the nurses must realise that two wrongs don't make a right.
There are several avenues to have channelled their grievances such as documented in writing for pen will always be mightier than the sword, in protest or strike actions (if the doctors are in total dosrespect of the nursing and other medical professionals in the hospital.
Let everyone carry out their various duties as efficiently and effectively possible and follow peace with all men.

I will repeat so everyone is clear on their rights. If anyone restricts you from going anywhere against your Will, and especially locks a person up against his or her will.It is kidnapping. Document that they know what they are doing and get a lawyer.

If its a coporate firm they will pay you big money to settle out of court. If its a stupid person he or she wil spend some time behind bars

I didn't mention your nursing profession bro. My wife is also a nurse and I know what am talking about. Many of the health practitioners fighting against doctors in Nigeria are those who couldn't end up becoming doctors and you know that to be true.

Is it not better to google through consultation and give your patient the best care than assume everything from your head? This is the difference between medical practice abroad and in Nigeria. Even health workers still believe the man who does everything from his head is the super man, that is the real ego bro.
