South Africans Are Asking Why In Nigerian Movies Everyone Is Christian by zhike(op): 9:02pm On Jun 24, 2022
According to Nigeria stats 50 percent of population is Christian and 50 percent of the population is Muslim, but in Nigeria movies everyone is Christian.

South Africans are asking why Muslim are not appearing in Nollywood movies?

Tell them the meanings of Ezemmuo and Babalawo. Many Nigerian movies have ezemmuo and babalawo. Nigerian movies also have young boys who join cult and fight to kill. Are those ones Christians in the movies?

Today Nollywood is sub-divided into three if i ain't mistaking.

There is Igbo, hausa and yoruba.
So If south africans feel like watching muslim movies the choice is theirs.

meanwhile, If this thread get to front page make i stay naked baff tongue

I just saw an Islamic "ruling on watching films" on the front page this morning. And according to that ruling, it is wrong to watch films cause the contents are lies and they normally play music in the background. It makes sense why they might not be well represented in such an industry.
Re: South Africans Are Asking Why In Nigerian Movies Everyone Is Christian by booblacain(m):
I guess the reason is because most Nigerian movies seen by foreigners are made by South easterners who are predominantly Christians.

Movies made by South Westerners I would believe have more muslims in their casts, but their films are not as popularly watched out there compared to their South Eastern counterpart.

Hausa movies that have mainly Muslime casts rarely even make their way out of the shores of Nigeria, maybe to Northern Africa but definitely not to Southern Africa.

Nollywood is not divided into three, Kaniwood which is the Hausa version exist, though Yoruba movie industry is almost merging with Nollywood but it is still distinct, 90% of Nollywood movies are centred on the Igbo society, that's why there is usduslly no muslim movie coming from Nollywood

Nollywood is done in the south

If you want to see Muslims very well watch a few Yoruba movies(most Yoruba movies are traditionally inclined) and kaniwood(if you understand Hausa)

What's then the essence if it only portrays city life, well and if it doesn't matter that Igbo culture is being portrayed to this day, I believe tribalism won't let you see those, Peter Edochie, Yul Edochie and many more still have movies strongly rooted in Igbo culture,

I must even confess that Nollywood is more Igbotic today than it was 15 years back, during the times of Ramsey Noah, Jim Iyke, Emeka Ike Nollywood was more on campus life but today more moves displaying Igbo culture is cinemas, lagos life, Abuja life is not Yoruba culture and people like Funke Akindele, Aniola badmus don't represent Yoruba culture at all, or you haven't seen badmus act with queen Nwa okoye in Igbo cultural settings

informally, the 'nollywood' appellation has legal and cultural connotations. Legally, it means Nigeria movie industry, but culturally, it is often considered to be movies with Igbo cultural background which arguably constitute the majority and the most popular. Hence, while you can categorize the income of the nigeria movie industry as a whole as nollywood contribution the GDP, you can still tell for instance whether an actor belongs to nollywood or kannywood based on the cultural leanings of the movie he/she regularly features in. It is so in India.

But all those Ezemmuo, cultist and babalawo end up in the church or are delivered by a pastor or Rev Father before the end of the movie.
