maik99: Hi Maik99 I think I listed earlier on the thread, the different routes on how to join. Personally, I'd advise you come in via the graduate trainee route. You'll be shipped to the legal department of the bank. If you're below 26, the graduate trainee route is the perfect way for you to come in. 1 Like |

Rich4god: Hi Rich4god, The branch is a unit on its own. At the branch level, we have 2 departments. Operations and Sales. Operations has different positions. You have the Branch service manager (BSM) Team Lead Customer service (TLCs) Asset Custodian ATM Custodian Client Service Officer (CSO) Teller ( this position is on a contract level) Sales Team, you have Personal Banker (also known as relationship manager in other banks) - these are relationship managers for personal accounts. Business Banker - relationship managers for business accounts. These roles are full time positions. 2 Likes |

Hello, I have really learnt a lot from this thread, pls I want to ask if personal bankers are what we regard as marketers? Do they also come in as graduate trainees? Or do they have some that are contract staffs? Would you advise anybody to be a personal banker with Stanbic?how is the stress level and pay? |

Re: Your Thoughts On Nigerian Banks Salaries 2021 by richmondefosa(m): 9:48am On Jul 02, 2022 |
Dazzle9696: Hi! Yes, personal Bankers are marketers but they're full time employees of the bank and not from outsourcing/recruitment agencies. They also earn well. The contract staff marketers are known as acquisition agents. Their payment is target based/number of accounts opened. To be very honest, I do not know if they come in as graduate trainees - the personal Bankers I mean. But in all my years of working here, I've never seen a graduate trainee who is a personal Banker. They may exist in the company sha. I'm speaking from my own experience. Would I advise anyone to be a personal Banker with stanbic? Hmm. This is a deep question. Firstly, I'll advice you play to your strengths. There's no easy role at all. Each role, department or unit comes with its own risks, advantages and disadvantages. Thankfully, Stanbic wants you to thrive. You will not be put in a department where you won't succeed. Also, you can switch roles/departments subject to the availability of vacancies. Secondly, does the role align with your proposed career? Many questions need to be asked and your decisions will be subject to those answers. Many times, you may find yourself in a role you do not like. But when you start off, with time, you may not want to leave the role. I have a friend who's a personal Banker. Man will complain about the stress and all. When I tell him to switch to operations, he will say never. That he was born to be a sales man. For the records, he studied civil engineering in FUTO. A full fledged engineer who has the flair for sales. He never thought he would for one day be a sales man but here he is excelling in the role with no intention of leaving sales. Different strokes for different folks. I'm an operations person. I decided to follow the sales team one day for a storm. Just to experience what it feels like. Man it wasn't easy - but surprisingly, I pulled in numbers even a regional manager commended me and asked if I'd like to switch to sales. I humbly declined. Not because it wasn't exciting and challenging (I love challenging roles - I once resigned from a previous job because I conquered everything and it was no longer challenging), but I declined because it wasn't in line with my proposed career as a seasoned communications professional. To your last question, The pay is in line with your current grade level. One thing is sure. There's stress and pressure in every role and department. And then across industries, the financial industry pays well for full time employees. You can confirm this. Then within the financial industry, Stanbic IBTC (The holding company - includes the bank, pension, investment, insurance, stockbrokers etc) can raise its head high and beat her chest that she offers a high and competitive salaries than its competitors. This is a fact and it's verifiable. 9 Likes 1 Share |

Rich4god: Hello. Please, never for once think that you're disturbing me. This forum was created for people who have questions to drop it and the people who have the answers to respond. Some branches do not have the role of TLCs. It is mostly busy branches that have this position. They're second in the chain of command. That's after the BSM. They authorize transactions above a certain threshold, oversee the smooth running of the branch, deputise for the BSM and act as relief BSMs to other branches in the region who are short-staffed (due to leave). The Asset Custodian if found in every branch. Regardless of whether it's busy or not. This person is in charge of all the Asset of the Bank in that particular branch. This includes the computer systems, Air conditioners, generator, Vault, the cash, security, cleaners and even you the staff etc. The person is responsible for the smooth operations on the branch. Identify anything that'll make work impossible or uncomfortable and remove it. The person sells cash to the tellers, sells cash to the ATMs, monitor cash levels and requisition. Bank drafts, special payments, monitor suspense accounts, GL's etc. Enormous work I must admit. In branches that do not have team leads, the Asset Custodian is number two man after the BSM. The ATM Custodian is to make sure that all the ATMs tied to that branch (on-site and off-site) are operational 24/7. This role is challenging because you have to constantly monitor cash levels. Receive cash from the bullion van guys, count and sort and load into the machines. The job is also risky and one has to be careful and diligent at ALL TIMES. A single mistake cam ruin you and you'll end up in jail. Imagine a branch having 7 off-site ATMs and 5 on-site ATMs at the branch. You will run kiti kiti and run kata kata, you no go fit drink water drop cup. You will see how the thing goes . Imagine managing off-site ATMs that stretch from osolo, isolo, airport road and Maryland. You're always on the road trying to resolve ATM issues. You will still have to balance the ATM registers. Identify overages and shortages and escalate for resolution. In the absence of the Asset Custodian, the ATM Custodian takes charge hence making him the 3rd in command. Client service officer is what everyone knows as customer care. This doesn't need many explanations. We all know what they do. Their job too is risky. I hope I have been able to answer your questions? 6 Likes 2 Shares |

richmondefosa: Yes o..... Your response was very clear. Thanks so much for the explanation. From what you just said, I think Asset custodian will be the best fit for me at the branch level. Thank you very much. They have requested for my documents and asked me my grade in my current place of work. Do you know what is next. @richmondefosa 1 Like |

Teksocrates: Stanbic IBTC Bank recruitment is open and devoid of mago mago. Vacancies are posted on their career page. Although the recruitment process takes time and you can get frustrated. But at the end, it's all joy and fun. I don't have any sure plug. I'm just happy I work here. Don't fall victim to scammers. |
Re: Your Thoughts On Nigerian Banks Salaries 2021 by ejimatic: 10:57am On Jul 05, 2022 |
richmondefosa:. I am not in any way casting aspersion.I am only saying no bank in Nigeria is paying 350 000 to a new staff unless you are calculating allowances tgey get at the end of the training which is paid once. It may interest you to know that Out of 20 in a Bank ,the permanent staff may be 4 or 5 others are on contract..... However a permanent with many years in the service may get that money. |

ejimatic: Your statement goes to speak highly that indeed, you know nothing about stanbic. Contract staff with stanbic IBTC Bank earns well. At reasonable. As at early this year march, u-connect staff outsourced to Stanbic are earning 80k. These are ND holders. Bsc holders that I know of first hand are earning a few negligible thousands shy from 100k. Those with lots of experience under their belt earn as high as 160 if my memory serves me right. Across financial institutions in Nigeria, stanbic IBTC Bank is amongst the to payers. Don't even get me started. You 'friends' in the bank are being economical with the truth of how much they earn. 3 Likes |

richmondefosa:Does what yiu have said here justify 350 000 you earlier said a new staff woukd get in BANK which I disagree with? Stanbic according to you : Contact. 80k HND BSC. Around 100k Those with experience 160k ... Where is 350 k yiu earlier said is given to a new staff? I insist no bank in Nigeria pays 350 k to a beginner in the sector |
Re: Your Thoughts On Nigerian Banks Salaries 2021 by richmondefosa(m): 3:04pm On Jul 05, 2022 |
ejimatic: If you have followed me diligently, you will see where I stated they Graduate trainee in Stanbic IBTC Bank get paid 350k after training school. These are fresh new staff. Many of them have no working experience whatsoever. Fresh out of NYSC. Yunno what's funnier? Many of them joined the bank through my contribution this thread. You leave the Blue academy and your grade is ABO with 350k starting next salary. If you say no Bank in Nigeria pays fresh men 350k, I'll conclude that you're ignorant. And I will not continue to waste my time in baseless arguments. 1 Like |

Re: Your Thoughts On Nigerian Banks Salaries 2021 by ejimatic: 5:19pm On Jul 05, 2022 |
richmondefosa:. Training allowances can make you have 350k with your salary factored in it.After that no more payment of 350 k to a new staff in a bank. So I submit! If you think there is a bank like that mention it! I have contacts in most banks for verification. |
