First Cargo Vessel Berths at Lekki Deep Seaport

Suleiman Idris.
July 1, 2022. 6:22 pm

Steps towards commencing fulll commercial operations at the nation’s first Deep Seaport at Lekki received a major boost on Friday with the arrival of a cargo vessel Zhen Hua 28, berthing at the port.

The arrival of the ship, bearing modern ship-to-shore cranes and ten rubber tyred gantries, is historic as it provides a glimpse into commercial operations at the port.

The vessel, 232 meter long with a draft of 9.2 meters, originated from Shanghai China and spent 30 days at sea before berthing at the deep seaport.

Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority, Muhammed Bello Koko who led other stakeholders to receive the ship said her arrival is an indication that the September 2022 projection for the commencement of full automated operations at the port is realistic.

The deep seaport, conceived 13 years ago, is the first in Nigeria and the best in West Africa.

It has a draft of 16.5 meters and a turning circle of 600 meters,. giving it huge advantage in terms of container capacity turnout for shippers in Nigeria and other African countries.

Very good. Other regions must sit up too. They should not be deceived by Lagos. If we go our separate ways, other regions will be lagging behind. Other regions must also sit up to attract foreign investors into their region. They must not be deceived by the Yorubas using Lagos to attract all the foreign investments to their region.

Instead of opening up the seaport in other states, they are still concentrating everything in Lagos.

Besides we need Lekki Airport more than we need Lekki Seaport.

Moving from Lekki axis to MMIA to catch your flight is the greatest nightmare any Lekki dweller can face.

Shit can sometimes last from 4-5 hours.

I remember somebody who dropped off someone traveling to London at Ikeja Airport and set back to return to Lekki. He was still in traffic around Ozumba Mbadiwe when the person he dropped off called him that he’s already in London. Madness!

I have reported this guy earlier for always breaking rule 2 by attacking other members deliberately. It's all glaring in this guy comments history

Rule 2

2. Don't abuse, bully, deliberately insult/provoke, fight, or wish harm to Nairaland members OR THEIR TRIBES.
Re: Lekki Deep Seaport Makes History, Receives First Cargo Vessel (Photos) by LegendHero(m):
Nice one.

This project is one of the PPP achievement Tinubu birthed that other successive governors keyed into.

In other states, they would have killed the dream by roforofo fighting among successors. Ondo state should wake up because something like this can be built there if the governors are serious.

Obasanjo specifically called Tinubu “A brilliant governor with brilliant ideas” when he started this Lekki deep sea port then.

When we support Asiwaju, we are doing so because he got verifiable achievements. He is a leader with foresight who solve problems through a solution that can outlast his presence. That is one thing lacking in most other governors in Nigeria which explain why most states have been stagnant since 1999.

What's the business of Tinubu with the guy's comments?

Why are you so fixated about Tinubu?

How big is the space he is currently occupying in your head for free?

When people ask about the achievements of Tinubu in Lagos, here is the result of the vision he conceptualized as far back as his tenure as Governor of Lagos State. Fortunately, successive Governors keyed into his vision and the result is the mordern Lagos that attracts the biggest foreign direct investment in Africa.

Warri, Calabar, PH , Akwa ibom, all are oil rich states with Governors at the helm of affairs. The question is, what have they been doing with the billions of naira of 13% crude oil derivation that greased their pockets every month?
Next time you see any developmental infrastructures in Lagos, you don't have to hate. All you have to do is to transfer your frustrations on your Governors, pull them by their ears and drag them to Lagos to learn the template of Asiwaju Jagaban.
