Spray: Baba, signed d contract abeg, start ur work collect your pay. If d work no suite u, baba resign, if u get another job better than this in terms of pay, baba resign n move on. Working in a private firm (98%) in this country are all slavery. owners simply take advantage of d failed system here in Nigeria and use it against us cos nothing works in dis country. Once d ogas at d top get thier share from these companies, they look away like there are no authorities which are suppose 2 regulate these rubbish. This is y they don't want 2 allow a credible, honest and OBIDIENT personality take charge. This is why d rich gets richer n d poor, poorer while d average remain stagnant or gets frustrated. Even if u did go counter to that clause on d contract, baba they won't hv ur time chasing u around 2 sue u. And if they decide 2 waste time chasing ur matter, better lawyer wey get sense go even counter that rubbish clause in d rubbish contract, mk them talk where 4 labor law them say person no fit use experience gain 2 work in a different organization, unless there is something fishy about d said experience. Any how it is, it's a win win situation 4 u. Until "las las, when everybody go chop brkfast...", just Leave wetin them write 4 motor enter motor, just 4 surving sake. But if ur still skeptic about it, continue staying at home doing nothing, if suffer never tire u |

Spray: My friend, they can't do shit. There is no Law in Nigeria, that is why some idiots come with Slavery Laws. They can't do shiit, trust me. I once worked in three banks in a year, nothing happened. |

Don't sign the contract. If you have something you're doing on the interim to support yourself, stick to it while you wait for a fair and better offer. God bless you. |
Re: Is This Not A Form Of Slavery? by rickyboss333: 5:56pm On Jul 02, 2022 |
pasuma: And then he can sue d company 4 having such useless clause in thier contract in d first place. It is just because we (average Nigerians, struggling youth) really don't have d time, d resources, or d finance, or a system that ought to protect our welfare and wellbeing and do a proper regulation 2 some of this crazy laws appended in these agreement documents. We just overlook some things and sigh cos we don't even have strength 2 shout cos we they hungry let alone chase something we know cannot fly in a failed system as ours. |

very poor way of convincing people, and its this kind of comparison that usually back fires, to convince people, you need to make them believe in the best in themselves, not see the worse as a standard. please be wise and mindful of what you portray, think deeply before you try to convince people. Spray: It used to be standard a while back. It's called a non-compete agreement |
Re: Is This Not A Form Of Slavery? by dochenaj: 6:10pm On Jul 02, 2022 |
Spray:It is called "non-compete" clause. It is very common in employment contracts. And it makes sense. Imagine being groomed by the company only to be sprung away by their competition. |
Re: Is This Not A Form Of Slavery? by Rhozabeth(m): 6:15pm On Jul 02, 2022 |
Do they want u to remain jobless after leaving them? Pls dont sign such contract. Tell them u want that particular part of the contract removed! If they decline, then walk! If u sign it you will be in trouble for going again that clause. I can tell u that for free because am a HR practitioner! |

Guy, our people always say that if you cannot climb it is better to say it when you have not climb, because if you say you can't climb when you have already climbed up, no one will come up to save you |
Re: Is This Not A Form Of Slavery? by womenareapez: 6:23pm On Jul 02, 2022 |
Spray:take it! That contract stuff isn't applicable here in Nigeria (base on difference experience. The only issues is that if the next company you Jump to will ask for references and that company will write remarks on you. Even when taken to court, court always dismissed those cases. But Don't try this abroad 1 Like |

Seek the advice of a lawyer. I don't blame them. They are taking advantage of the unemployment situation in the country. |
Re: Is This Not A Form Of Slavery? by seyimailbox: 6:53pm On Jul 02, 2022 |
Spray:It is not a problem as long as you don't have compulsory savings with the company so you can walk away at anytime, it is only your reputation that is on the line. However if it is in the financial sector like micro finance or cooperatives where you were compelled to bring guarantors or where you have signed out loans to customers then they will have every reason to come after you. |

Spray: Is it a Chinese company? Would they continue paying your salary and other entitlement for the one year period? That clause is faulty and cannot pass the test of your rights to citizenship as enshrined in the constitution of federal republic of Nigeria1999 and CDHR chatter... Once you are out of their payment structure and return all of their official stuffs in your possession, you are free to work anywhere starting from the next day. The agreement is bad ab-initio |
Re: Is This Not A Form Of Slavery? by seyimailbox: 6:57pm On Jul 02, 2022 |
Fuckyoumod:Neither is it against the Nigeria Labor Laws. By signing the document, it becomes binding on you. It is an agreement. |

Unclefemolala: First of all, I didn't see where any part of what I said insulted any1, least of u. So pls, next time talk with sm sense of maturity. Second, as regards 2 d point u raised, (which still makes a whole lot of sense without ur first few words n insults in btw) I can prove 2 u that what is practiced in these places u mentioned (that is if what ur saying is true) isn't logically dsame, if u can actually show with prove, exactly what ur saying since u hv been opportuned 2 work or see documents of appointments in these countries. |
