I currently teach in a secondary school. Resumption is 7:30. Closing is 4pm.

For other subject teachers, It's very hard to cajole those ss2 boys for weekend classes but they always turn up for literature probably because they enjoy my teaching.

My pay does not commensurate with what I and others give. Right now, I'm looking for another teaching opportunity.

I once worked for one back in 2012. Both the woman and the man were pastors. The pay was was very low and sometimes it will be half of your total salary.

One thing I noticed was that whenever they want to introduce a bad policy, they start with biblical verses and then give a flimsy reason for the decision. You cant fight it because what can you do when your coworkers has been brainwashed grin

Well when I look back now I understand why they couldn't pay or slashed salaries. The school was being constructed with different loans. They had to pay back so there is no way they won't cheat the workers if at all they intend to meet up with the loan requirements.

Also, they lick thy arses of parents, discipline is done by the principal ALONE, infact I pity this generation. During External exams you MUST assit the students otherwise you will not get paid.

I love the experience. It feels so good when the student are enjoying the class, looking up to you and excelling in the subject you take them. Though looking for other source of income cos the pay is very low and most schools pay half or nothing during holidays.

You may try primary levels for those extra classes...

My wife has been a teacher all her life after she left a micro-finance banking. She has been teaching for 8years and she loves teaching she studied micro biology she’s good in Mathematics,English & any science subject. I asked her sometime ago why she loves teaching, she said she has passion for teaching (Maybe because she grew up with a teacher) and also to have time for the kids.

Na die

Schools are by far not what they used to be. The students lack discipline and cannot be beaten. It's now a taboo to beat students in most schools.

It's been fun, educating, interesting, challenging. I'm always grateful to God for giving me the opportunity to teach/train/groom the next generation.

It feels good knowing that you are impacting knowledge but last last, The motivation will just die if the pay isn't worth it. Who dey hungry no dey get strength to talk.

Shortly after my national service, I got a teaching job as a PTA teacher and the pay was 10k, that was in 2011.

I went for the interview, decked in suit like I was going for a bank job and I used their pay as a leaverage that I can't stay in school for morning to evening over 10k. We negotiated my classes, they needed me to take SS2 and prepare SS3 for SSCE and was all ok. I worked 2 months and just when I was enjoying the place, a friend got a job with a construction company and needed an assistant, I move same day I was informed!

Your dp location looks like a beach in Benin republic..

With your picture, I can understand why you had to start sex education. I’m sure you’re now handling older guys on sex education. You’re a patriot..

If you’re the one on your dp tho..

Was wondering too, I can remember I have read the comment word for word before. I had to check the date to see if it is an old post. The way people plagiarize without reference is mind blowing

My experience as a teacher in Nigeria was exciting but not rewarding. The salary was meagre and the students were stingy. Currently, I teach in Kazakhstan and it is completely different from the life in Nigeria. Teaching is profitable but a times it is based on location and your values.
