These courses are rudimentary and not taught in depth, so if that's the sole reason you're going for comp sci, i am sorry to disappoint you.

Nigerian universities need to do better.
Bro, I want you to do some personal research, check some american tech companies requirements for employment online and you will know the degree is not useless. You will see a lot ready to employ computer sci. graduates without experience, while requesting self-taught to have minimum three-years experience. Though, a dull computer sci. grad. will drop at the interview section.

Concerning courses being rudimentary, have you seen any first-class grads who only stick with the syllabus, they always go extra-curriculum to get the first-class. So even as a student, to be highly employable, you have to be outstanding.

Unless you're a genius, I can promise you can't get good at both simultaneously.

Leetcode is not easy, forget how tensa preaches it, that thing is confusing as hell. Data structures themselves are no joke. Then add understand A* and other algorithms. You could spend a whole day and still can't implement Dijkstra's.

Having to learn Spring Boot alongside that means you want to land your first job after 3 years.

Tensa can preach about DSA because he has years of React experience under his belt. A newbie that can't write a simple stickman or host a simple FastAPi server learning DSA(without a comp sci degree) certainly must like being hired and fired because DSA only gets you a job, doesn't help you keep one
Thank you bro. What most don't know is that the guy Tenza has been in this game for so long, following his path as a novice may burn you out

2 years no long? Especially since I know you to be someone who throws at least 8 - 10 hours into it daily

This is true asf

But yet tech influences are preaching the gospel of "no degree to get a remote job".

Thereby, making folks ditch school to attend bootcamps even when they have the time and money to do so.

One thing I don't like about we Nigerians is that, we don't like following laid down procedures.
We love to create shortcuts.

Despite this your preaching of getting a Cs degree if you can...... self-taught programmers will still pick jamb form and put mech eng or marine eng or medicine lol...knowing fully well that they intend to work as a programmer after graduation.

Why not dive into PHP for backend?
It's server side programming language.

The bolded hit the nail on the head. I pray they listen

I've also been a victim of this your post, that's why I'm trying to incentivize others. And the tons of misleading informations online are the ones causing this.

Even on this nairaland, there's a thread that dissuade people from going to higher inst. at all, that prospective students should just focus on programming and making money when they finish high school.

You know deep down the people I refer to as tech influencers.

This people are different from the youtubers that put up content to help others. These ones will never tell you to ditch your degree and attend a bootcamp.

I remember when Compiler Construction, a course I took in 300l was difficult to me....it was through them I understood that course and passed my exams.

But you see these other tech influencers I'm talking about that are on tiktok, sc, twitter. Most of them spread false info.

I hope you understand what I mean? You grab?

Men I don talk even if e go take me 2 years to get good at this no problem. I rather suffer for two years of my life and enjoy myself for the next 20 years. It's My own masters degree cause even if I leave Nigeria I still can't get a good job without knowing dsa. See that nairalander who went to Canada and schooled at university of toronto he still couldn't get employed until he started leetcoding and he was doing odd jobs. Took him more than a year. He was even lucky he went as a permanent resident. Some countries have very short time between graduating as a student and getting a work visa. If you don't have your fundamentals you might find yourself in Nigeria as it will be almost impossible getting placement.
I'm already half way through my journey. By October, cold mails for interviews will start.

That reminds me, please tag me to they guys post(the guys in canada). I want I view it again.

The result if this is that the level of difficulty for interview questions will be tougher.

There's a joke that In India, to get into Google you have to prep lc hards very well and pray to God lol for you to pass the interview
Funny. Though medium is what a bunch do. The reason why Indians are good at it, is:
.1. They do competitive programming more, which is more difficult than DSA

2. The competition is high, so they have to be above average

For smart programmers in Nigeria, it's best to learn it now and take advantage of the opportunities.

cheesy cheesy grin grin. I saw a lady that graduated from Nnamdi Azikiwa uni last year, got a mail from a recruiter for interview. She asked for 4 months to prepare, and then she smashed it. She's in London now. This happened just last year.

She was contacted because she do attempt google coding competition monthly. I checked, and I noticed less than 5 Nigerians world wide participate.

Like this, I'm attempting the next three this year, until I get to the top 200, which gives automatically an invite for interview.
