Why not try supply chain business?

You supply agricultural commodity to processing factory.

This is a good business but the insecurity in the north might impede it's adoption. To find trusted Nigerians who reside there who will be transparent in dealing with you is another headache. I really like this biz idea if the figures you mentioned are authentic.

First and foremost, I would like to congratulate you for thinking in the right direction, because man would continue to eat until judgement day, so farming would never become extinct.

With 1million you can buy any of the following:
1. Tractor for lease
2. Rice reaper/harvester for lease
3. Rice thresher for lease
But because we are nearing harvest season, I would advice you invest in a rice reaper/harvester if you are close to where rice paddy is planted. Reason is that rice is one of the most planted and consumed commodity in Nigeria.

A rice reaper cost about #600 000 naira in Nigeria and I can assure you that when rice harvest begins, inshaAllah you would make an average of about #35000 daily. #35000*30=#1,050,000
#1,050, 000-#600,000= #450 000 profit( if you are giving someone to work for you)
But if you are operating the machine yourself, inshaAllah, you would make nothing less than #50,000 daily.
Do the maths and see what #1000 000 can do.

Also,dry maize can also be supplied to feedmill.

This is very easy to do. You only need to understudy someone who is in the business.

1. Harvest depends mostly on region because of differential rainfall, rain go don fall taya for Lagos before e begin for North. My mum planted her rice very early this year, she says harvest would be next month September. In 2020, I think I harvested my rice in November because I planted very late due to contemplation, but by then almost everyone around me had harvested theirs.

2. It can be once or twice depending on region and availability of water for irrigation. If the farmers are into only rainy season farming, harvest would be once while if the farmers are into irrigation harvest is twice. One during rainy season and one during dry season.

What's the usual season (months) for rice harvesting over there?

1.Yeah there is insecurity in the North but not everywhere in the North. Bauchi is relatively calm though.
2.No doubt, finding trusted Nigerians is one hell of a task.
3. The figures are realistic estimates, it could be more but definitely not below.

Last year, someone started cutting our rice but could not finish because the owner of the reaper also wants to use it in his farm. We searched for another reaper to no avail, we had to employ manual labor to finish the work.
I even later met one guy with his reaper at the back of his Hijet pickup, he was on his way to a farm. We exchanged numbers and he promised he would come and work in my mother and Principal's farm but till today the guy no call me.

That incidence opened my eyes big time but I had already spent a huge chunk of my cash on my ice block machine, which prevented me from venturing into it.
There is money in Agriculture big time.

What if you could get into a true sustainable business that can weather any economy storm. A business that give you the time freedom and impart you want to have.

I just talked with the reaper operator I met last year and he further enlightened me.

He said one can charge a farm #80,000 for a job that can be finished in a day.

And the reaper operator and diesel would not cost more than #10, 000. One is left with a balance of #70,000.

Insha Allah, I am venturing into this business this year. I would keep updating the house.

If you don't have at least 5 million don't even bother going to price a decent second hand tractor!

1. Go into palm oil business, buy when cheap and resell when price rise up.

2. Pepper farming ( tomatoes , bell pepper , chilli peppers cultivation

I know your likes would come for my neck. But I have not forced anyone to give me his money.
I have also advised people to do the business on their own if they are close to where rice farming is done.

And please don't misquote me to drive your points, amongst the three things I told the Op he can get with a guaranteed return on investment, I advised he goes for the "rice reaper" which would be what would be in need soonest.

If a decent second tractor costs about #5m why are people still buying it, If their is no profit? And why is every northerner not buying or owning a tractor? Reason am.

Mind you a tractor is even more lucrative because no matter what you intend planting, a tractor is needed to cultivate the land.

Since it seems you have a better idea about tractors, if one acquires a tractor at #5million, in how much time would he make back his capital?

Tomatoes, pepper and onions are consumed on a daily basis all over Nigeria and cultivated in the North, it's a commodity with a ready market but why are all northerners not involved in it's farming? Reason am bros.
