I'm a 300L Medical student in OAU(yet to begin 300L though because of ASUU). Time is no longer on my side age-wise. ASUU strike and the current state of Tertiary education in the country have left me depressed.

Please, I need your inputs on the following options that I've thought about:

||Make a transfer to a private university, preferably Bowen, because medicine in Bowen is intercalated, they award a BSC alongside MBBS.

||Make to a transfer to a state university like Lasu, since they are not affected by ASUU. But my fear is this might change in the future.

||Make a transfer abroad, I don't think this is feasible though...

Or you could chill and see it to the end in oau. Transferring is quite difficult. Getting transcripts in oau is quite difficult and time consuming. If I were you, I'll just keep on with it and find something tangible to invest my time in. This is my opinion though

I have something tangible doing already, but it doesn't give me the feeling that I'm making progress.

The stress/time it would take to obtain a transcript is insignificant compared to what a future with ASUU holds.

I would like to know more about medicine in the aforementioned institutions.

Hello Adeboy! Making a transfer to a private university is a really smart decision( if it would work out). You could go ahead and try and if it works out, cool! if it doesn't, there's absolutely nothing to lose either way.

Although, I'm highly skeptical of your transfer hopes to lagos state university (LASU) as I've heard horrible stories of numerous unsuccessful applications for a transfer there, but you could still make an effort nonetheless. Now that public schools are on strike, i wonder how you intend to get your transcripts and other important documents.

As for the transfer abroad, a camel would stand a better chance at passing through the eye of a needle.

Going to Bowen for Intercalated Medicine means you might be repeating 200L as they might not consider you for advanced standing. Furthermore, the fees...it's a whole lot.

Going to LASU technically seems to be your best option. However, how do you intend to get the transcripts? Or the back and forth a between Ile-Ife and Ikeja? Would they consider you for advanced standing? LASU's fees might also increase in the future as there have been a number of caprices about the tuition fees at LASU.

Just know you're not alone as someone has rightly said. It's so sad been in a country where students and education are more or less an afterthought. 80% of Medical Students are affected by this strike, the 20% are those in some state and private Universities. This too, hopefully being the last of it's kind, would pass.

Lastly, I would always pick the prestigious OAU over LASU or BOWEN. (Apologies to those who attend any of the latter).

I love OAU, but ASUU strike & the OAU system has eaten more than 2 years of my life. We all know this would not be the last one

Everyone has a limit to what they can bear. I've been able to stomach the whole thing for a long thing, but I just can't take it anymore.

Technically, I'm just ending 200L, my mate dey 400 & 500L, it's painful & depressing.

I spoke with a friend in a private university(500L) and he was insisting that I repeated

One moment I'm overwhelmed with joy doing other stuff, and the next something comes up that reminds me that I ought to be in school

Considering your jamb score 263. You may still get in because Ebsu quota for medical student is 100. Ebsu does not conduct post utme rather they will aggregate both your jamb score and O level grades respectively. To be on a safer side, make sure your O level grades is extremely outstanding at least containing A1, B2 or B3 parallel. Anything less than that is inimical.

Only God knows when ASUU strike will end.
Bowen is accredited and mbbs is mbbs anywhere.
Most federal universities are living on past glory.
Besides, if you leave Oau now and end up starting 200l, you might even finish before your mates in Oau.
