Anyway Big Johnny has been fired, HHH has brought back many guys and plans to bring back even more, CM Punk is back from injury, Bray Wyatt to return, It's Punk vs Moxley at All Out. What else did I miss...? Oh, Goldberg says he isn't apologizing to Bret Hart again, he said he felt and feels sorry, he's apologized a million times and says he's tired and has moved on since Bret refused to accept it. |

It's the soon to be released AEW game. Gameplay appears to be more arcady as opposed to WWE slower simulation style games. Although WWE2k22 gameplay was a bit different from previous iterations. pu7pl3: 1 Like |

WWE SMACKDOWN REVIEWS RECAPS AND REACTIONS Ronda Rousey is much better on the microphone than she was when she first returned to WWE. That doesn’t mean she’s particularly good at it, and, in fact, I would argue it actually does her no favors when they’re actually doing a good job of presenting her as the baddest woman you’ll ever come across. She showed up to Friday Night SmackDown this week, coming in through the crowd with a duffel bag full of cash to pay the fine she was given. She’s supposed to be suspended. She doesn’t care, she’s a rulebreaker! The crowd loved her showing up like this — and then she started talking. Again, she’s doing okay with it, and you could argue it’s cool to say shit like “being the baddest is expensive, but I can afford it” but how much better would this have been if she showed up, dumped the bag of cash to pay the fine, and then strong armed the security who showed up to remove her without ever saying a word? Less is more and all that. They did further set up Ronda having issues with Shayna Baszler, who was upset about how Rousey was handling herself. Baszler and Liv Morgan — who was cheered this week, for what that’s worth — had a contract signing over the fine money Rousey showed up with and it broke down into violence, as per usual. Morgan ended up getting the better of it but it’s becoming increasingly clear her days as champion are numbered and there are other, more interesting stories to tell that don’t involve her. One thing I’ve greatly enjoyed since Triple H took over creative on the main roster is the renewed emphasis on putting over the mid-card titles. I don’t necessarily mean in the matches themselves, though that has also happened, but in the utilization of WWE’s production team to work up these fantastic videos showcasing the deep history of the secondary championships. We got another good one this week with the Intercontinental strap ahead of the big main event showdown pitting GUNTHER, the defending champion, against Shinsuke Nakamura, the former champion. All the biggest stars in the history of the promotion held the Intercontinental title at one point or another, and it used to really mean something when someone was bestowed with it. Somewhere along the way they lost that. It was just another title to be carried around and forgotten about. My hope has long been that we would get something like what we’re seeing with Roman Reigns, much longer title reigns that serve to add legitimacy to said titles. The belts mean less if they play hot potato with them. To that end, GUNTHER, whose entire character is centered around being a ring general who lives and dies for the competition of it all, is an ideal champion. Not just because of the character, of course, but because his matches are good to great. He had another one in the main event of this show. “This is awesome” chants rang out through the arena as GUNTHER and Nakamura went deeper and deeper into the evening. In the end, the defending champion proved to be too much, pinning Shinsuke clean after a powerbomb. This is how it should be. If Reigns is going to miss as many shows as he does, and I have no issue with that at all, that’s when you take advantage and elevate the titles lower on the card. They did a great job of that on this show. All the Rest Raquel Rodriguez & Aliyah advanced in the Women’s Tag Team Championship Tournament with a victory over Xia Li & Shotzi. There isn’t much to say about the match. Aliyah sold a lot, Rodriguez was the powerhouse who came in and wrecked shop, and they worked well enough together. This was just a way to get to the more important stuff later. Karrion Kross called his return a rebirth while claiming Drew McIntyre and Roman Reigns are the chosen ones. He cut this promo backstage while hiding behind a curtain and spying on McIntyre. He was given a menacing presentation, a bit like the hunter stalking its prey, sticking to the shadows. I think I’d rather he do less talking but this wasn’t bad. That led us to a McIntyre promo where he ran down Reigns for not showing up to work — an unfortunate talking point WWE should get rid of — before Scarlett Bordeaux interrupted. Instead of causing a distraction for Kross, however, it was The Usos who attacked McIntyre from behind. They warned her about Kross stepping to Reigns, she said something unintelligible, and that was the segment. We’re too early into this to draw any meaningful conclusions just yet but I can’t help but find it a bit strange how they are, to some degree, sacrificing McIntyre’s big moment in Wales just to get Kross involved now instead of later.Ivar’s splash onto Kofi Kingston from the barricade to the stage floor looked legitimately brutal. Hit Row were one of the victims of the many rounds of “budget cuts” within WWE late last year, coming not long after it became clear Vince McMahon didn’t really know what to do with them on the main roster. With Triple H back in charge, he’s doing a full blown tour with all of his prior NXT projects he sees money in. They’re billing themselves as the “OG 3,” and there’s reason for optimism here, even as they’re missing the top star of the original act, AEW’s Swerve Strickland. Let’s wait and see on this. Jimmy Uso calling Sami Zayn a “track star” got a big pop out of me. Zayn is still one of the best acts on this show, and his entire thing is being slimy trying to stay in tight with The Bloodline despite the fact that he’s been in front of Reigns maybe twice. Here, he ran the hell away from Drew McIntyre, then showed up to get Claymore’d by him but only after he had already defeated the tag team champions (alongside Madcap Moss, who aligned with Drew in a surprise return for reasons we were never told). Max Dupri rules. Bum Ass Corbin sucks. This was a good show! Grade: B |

WWE RAW REVIEWS RECAPS AND REACTIONS Can’t Stop the Reign Drew McIntyre and Kevin Owens executed a perfect mic session this week. Prior to the impromptu match, McIntyre came out to talk to the D.C. crowd and get them excited about the ghost of matches yet to come. Drew O’Mac vs. Ciampa. Drew O’Mac vs. AJ Styles. The crowd was into it and Drew had more names before a familiar tune played in Capital One Area. Owens felt slighted that Drew didn’t mention him—until he showed up—as a future opponent. But he didn’t blame Drew for the slight; he blamed himself. Owens chalked it up to forgetting who he was for far too long. Showing up to work to have fun isn’t who he is but he was content doing just that. Owens believes Drew doesn’t know who he is either for various reasons. Mostly because he come out with a sword like a player at Medieval Times. Owens doesn’t want to be like Drew and forget, so he’s bringing back the side of himself he forgot: the prize fighter. Drew responded in kind with fire that felt real. He recounted the fact he was the Chosen One many moons ago and he got fired. He worked his butt off to get back to WWE—and they called him—he’s a two time champion, beaten Brock Lesnar, Goldberg, and anyone else put in front of him. In other words, you don’t know his story. Drew then used the word “wrestlers” and “wrestling ring,” then the two put on an impromptu bout of dopeness. Words won’t do it justice. I’m not even going to try to recant it; just know it was a fight similar to the bout Sheamus and Drew put on during a recent episode of SmackDown, only without the bar fight aspect. The one downside, even though I completely get it, is the DQ finish. And it’s only a downside because I wanted to see a winner and the crowd did as well. The Usos attacked Drew, giving the Scotsman the victory. I get it. Roman is the big prize for both men. And The Usos are here because Roman doesn’t work Mondays. Someone has to further the feud, right? Both men delivered messages to the Tribal Chief: Owens, after hitting Drew with a stunner, told the Usos the Tribal Chief owes him one. Drew, coming to just in time to dodge the 1D and deliver a hell of a Claymore to Jimmy Uso, said he will see Roman on Friday night. That was all good stuff. The match was great and with a proper finish? Possibly greater. Again, the ending made complete sense, so it’s definitely a nitpick. But also me just being greedy. Shoutout to DMX. All Phenomenal I have mixed feelings about AJ Styles vs. Bobby Lashley. The third act of the match was perfect. Not just the back and forth aspect, but the fact AJ’s back too so much punishment during the match that it became a plot device. But there was a lot happening during the first half that came and went. Before I get to that, let me give more flowers to the two men in the ring. Lashley dominated the first half. They told the story of the dominant champion asserting that dominance over someone thought of as his equal or better. AJ needed a new strategy and quickly because his game plan wasn’t working. I like stories like that when it’s told by two veterans of this caliber. The belief going into this match was AJ’s overall skill might overtake Lashley’s momentum. Nope, that didn’t happen. AJ was no match for the All Mighty. Eventually, AJ found his sea legs but not before we got an interruptions from Miz, Ciampa, and Dexter Lumis. Dexi showed up in the crowd, again, and jumped the barricade this time. Commentary—and the cops—treated his appearance as hostel, with Raw going to commercial while the cops wrestled Dexter to the ground and escorted him out of the arena. I still like the presentation and have so many more questions than I did last week. Showing Dexter as an interloper, one WWE as a whole is seemingly ignoring, harkens back to a time where truly anything could happen in WWE. It adds an edge to the show and makes it more must see than Miz. That’s a good thing. I’m torn on it coming during this match at the same time we got Miz & Ciampa interfering. And the Awesome Two (not their real name, but the name of a hip hop radio show from the ‘80s) had no real affect on the match. So they just showed up, Miz got wrecked, and then they left. Earlier, Miz blamed AJ for Ciampa’s U.S. championship loss, so their appearance makes sense. But make it mean something. There was just a lot happening here and none of it changed the outcome. That moment aside, this was a good showing for two very good wrestlers. The calf crusher into the Hurt Lock into pin counter was a great piece of business. AJ took the L here as Bobby’s reign continues. AJ and Miz seems like the next logical destination for the Phenomenal One, but on the real, I’m more excited for an AJ and Lashley rerun. Extracurriculars Custody Battle I’m just here to talk about Rhea Ripley calling herself Dominik’s real daddy. Yeah, yeah, Judgment Day talked trash about Rey Mysterio and Edge. Rey even came out to attack them knowing he was outnumbered. But Rhea’s line, and her subsequent performance, was the best part of Raw’s opening segment. Come see her tease and taunt Rey knowing he won’t hit her. Stay for the daddy line. Advancing and Going Home I mentioned before that I love tournaments. There are instant stakes and every match is important. Of course, the women’s tag team tournament is right up my alley. Thankfully, Doudrop & Nikki A.S.H. vs. Alexa Bliss & Asuka delivered a match that with suspense. I suspected the winners early because Alexa & Asuka gotta look strong going into their match with Control (that’s what I’m calling them until someone tells me otherwise). But Nikki and Doudrop looked great as a team and even started matching. Sure, it’s just a leather jacket for Nikki, but losing the cape and even the dark colored outfit is a good step towards making them an actual team rather than just two people put together because creative had nothing for them. If both of them get on the same page from a look standpoint, and get more development for their actual team, they might make dope music together. Asuka made Doudrop tap, getting the win for her and Alexa. Before their celebration with Bianca Belair began in earnest, Bailey, Kai and SKY met them at the top of the stage. It’s wrestling so a fight broke out but officials broke it up before it got really good. Awesome Tags The main takeaway from Ciampa & Miz vs. Mustafa Ali & Cedric Alexander is I want an Ali & Ciampa feud. Ali makes everyone looks good but he makes Ciampa look incredible. And Ciampa does the same for him as well. It’s no wonder they featured in the match’s ending. Ali, unaware that Ciampa was the legal man, put Miz in the drop zone for a 450 Splash. Before his body connected with Miz’s, Ciampa launched into a perfectly timed dropkick that caught Ali right in the jaw on the way down. It was a thing of beauty and my spider sense says these two would rock the house. Ciampa continues his momentum while dropping subtle hints that his time with Miz is coming to an end. Miz gifted Ciampa with a matching necklace. Ciampa looked annoyed but then again, maybe that’s just the resting face of an angry man. But nah, I think the end is near. KAI! Dakota Kai beat up on Dana Brooke. What else did you expect? Guess Who's Back? Back Again? Riddle’s back, Riddle’s back, Riddle’s back. Bro surprised Seth Franklin Rollins during a segment where the Visionary believed Riddle was at home giving an interview. Turns out, he was in D.C. Riddle ran to the ring, brawled with Seth because wrestling, and challenged Rollins to a match at Clash at the Castle. Also Back?? Veer, the man with the best hair in all of WWE. He squashed some guy. ALSO BACK?! Theory! The MITB briefcase holder made his not so triumphant return to the red brand. Why not so triumphant? Because Dolph Ziggler got in his face to give him some game. Theory didn’t the advice, called Ziggler washed and a has been. Whew, that hurt me. Ziggler chose violence, and two brawled throughout the commercial break. Look. I’m just glad this is still a thing and they didn’t move away from it assuming none of us remember. Storyline consistency is a good thing, people! Rejoice. That fight continued in this week’s main event. A good match, but not an overly exciting one. Theory got a couple shots in that echoed throughout the arena. First, a forearm to Dolph’s jaw and later a clothesline that almost put Ziggler through the mat. But this shouldn’t be the main event for Raw. I know that sounds like a diss but it’s not. Raw needs a heavyweight championship very badly. There’s nothing wrong with these two or what they did in the ring this week, but that’s not the match that ends a three hour program. Not one with a haphazard build that got derailed for a couple weeks and now is a thing again. Zeke Doesn’t Speak Ezekiel is in the hospital. His family watches over him. And they all look remarkably like Elias. Their dad even sounds and looks like Elias with a very cheap bad cap. Curiouser and curiouser. Raw was solid again. Not a spectacular show but a solid one building this new creative foundation. My gripes with the main event aside, I enjoyed this show even if nothing truly newsworthy happened. Sharing some inside convo between my friends and I, it might be time for Raw to switch things up a bit. Not just the look of the show, but the format as well. WWE’s flagship show pretty much operates the same way it did back in 1997 or 1998. Talking opening segment, match, backstage shenanigans, match, interview, and so on. I know there’s comfort in repetition but breaking formula more often, or just changing the formula entirely, has value. I’m not saying I want arm wrestling or pose downs in the main event spot either, but the show as a whole needs some..ahem..evolution. New creative brains behind the operations is a perfect time to freshen up the product. Food for thought. Grade: B 1 Like 1 Share |

WWE SMACKDOWN REVIEWS RECAPS AND REACTIONS Sami Zayn is fantastic. He always has been, but he was given the main spotlight on this week’s episode of Friday Night SmackDown in Montreal, getting a show long story that ended horribly for him — I mean, come on, they always do, right? — but reminded us of all the things that make him so great. I mean, look at this guy cozying up to Roman Reigns, finally feeling good about getting the chance to do just that. Then taking a call from Jey Uso and delivering the bad news that The Usos wouldn’t be on the show, thinking he can get himself in even further by offering his services up. Reigns encourages him to go win the Intercontinental championship and bring it back to The Bloodline. The best part might be the look on Roman’s face after Sami says “we should do this more, this is great.” Later, Zayn gets a hero’s welcome in Quebec, the fans absolutely blowing the roof off for him. It’s been some time since we’ve seen one crowd so heavily behind a single wrestler like this, with this much focus and intensity: He proceeds to deliver the goods in the match itself, getting everyone to the edge of their seat united in their desire to see him pull off the victory in a Fatal 5-Way he almost certainly wouldn’t be winning. There were glimpses in the match of the Sami Zayn who was delivering like this on the regular not all that long ago, before his character arc took him in another direction, a great reminder of the brilliance that remains and can be unleashed at any time under the right circumstances: In the end, Zayn came oh so close but came up just short once again. It was destined to be. It’s not time for him to turn again just yet, even if you couldn’t help but get swept up in everything with this amazing crowd on this show. By the end of the evening, when Roman Reigns and Drew McIntyre were set for their face-to-face encounter, it seemed clear it was as much about how Zayn would insert himself as it was about promoting the match these two are scheduled to have in a couple weeks. Sure enough, he sacrificed himself for Reigns, eating a Claymore Kick for him. The WWE Universal champ failed to capitalize on that, eating one of his own a very short time later, but Zayn gave himself up to give him the chance. Of course, this is almost certainly leading to Zayn as the fall guy anyway. Reigns used him all throughout this show, because he didn’t have his normal backup, and he won’t be able to accept his failures here, despite Zayn going out of his way to assist him. It’s certainly not on Sami that it played out this way but we know damn well it will be painted that way. The question now is after the reception he got here, and the way everything was booked, are we in for a babyface turn? Should we be? I’m probably swept up in adoration for him right now, admittedly heavily influenced by that electric response for him, but I’m fully on board. If they keep playing this right, there’s no reason Reigns vs. Zayn couldn’t headline an event sometime this year. I can’t say it enough, so I’ll say it again — Sami Zayn rules. All the rest Ronda Rousey is on WWE television while suspended more than Roman Reigns is while he’s champion! Okay, with that dumb low hanging fruit out of the way, we got a retread of Rousey wreaking havoc like last week. This time, Adam Pearce had her arrested when she attacked the security guards and refused to leave until her suspension was lifted. She willingly submitted to the cops without a fight and her parting words to Pearce just before they slammed the door were “You know what, Pearce? Nice haircut!” Good one, Ronda! The Montreal crowd was well and truly behind her but this didn’t land for me as well as last week’s angle. There’s no telling if plans called for Nikkita Lyons & Zoey Stark to advance in the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship Tournament, but once Toxic Attraction took their place it seemed obvious they would be defeating Natalya & Sonya Deville. I mean, come on, is Triple H going to have this duo come up to the main roster and instantly do a job to a makeshift team? No way. Bayley, Dakota Kai, and IYO SKY were there to soften things up a bit, what with providing distractions. The match was solid. It will be most interesting to see who gets the push come next week when Dolin & Jayne take on Raquel Rodriguez & Aliyah. Maximum Male Models were made to look like the biggest dorks on Earth when they were laughed off and tossed out of the ring by Hit Row, who proceeded to give us “something special” in the form of performing their entrance theme in the ring to a crowd that, at least on television, seemed entirely disinterested. Maxxine Dupri danced along and upset Max, really driving home just how dorky the whole crew was made to look here. We learned what a Viking funeral is on this show, when Erik & Ivar painted each other’s faces up and then burned some t-shirts. It was well produced but this kind of thing does nothing for me personally. Maybe you’re a fan, and if so, good for ya. It’s been really fun listening to commentary for Liv Morgan lately, what with Michael Cole and Pat McAfee spending a lot of her match against Shotzi on this show talking about how she’s in deep shit. They’re treating her title match against Shayna Baszler as a foregone conclusion. Shotzi did a good job of putting her over here to build her up but it really does just feel like a matter of time. I enjoyed this show. Grade: B+ |

WWE RAW REVIEWS RECAPS AND REACTIONS Welcome Back, Wrestling Johnny Gargano is back. That’s a big deal if you frequent this site or any other wrestling site on internet dot com. It was also predictable as Triple H begins remaking WWE in his image and bringing back those the former guy banished to an island of irrelevancy. The Toronto crowd greeted Johnny like he was Jesus riding through Jerusalem. The only pop louder was for Edge, so props to Mr. Wrestling. Johnny talked about fatherhood, his love for wrestling, reminded everyone why he was a big deal in NXT. And then Theory happened. Props to WWE for not ignoring their NXT history, referencing The Way in a few clever if not subtle...ways, and furthering this idea that Theory has a chip on his shoulder the size of Las Vegas casino. Pointing out that he has everything Johnny wants is a nice touch as well. Johnny wants to win championships. Theory won them first. Johnny wants big matches in bigger spots. Theory has that too. This sets up an interesting master vs. apprentice story, where the learner surpassed the teacher in a very short time. How does the master feel about that? For all intents and purposes, Johnny was Theory’s father. The moment a son overtakes a father in a contest, that relationship changes. And not always for the better. Want proof? See the way Johnny kicked Theory’s teeth down his throat when Mr. MITB offered “peace” after running down his former tag partner. Either because of jealousy, being in his feelings, or just a lack of trust, Johnny left Theory laid out in the middle of the ring. Gargano facing Theory as his first opponent makes a lot of sense given their history and the potential for longterm storytelling. But who ultimately prevails? That might be WWE writing themselves into a corner. If Theory truly is next, he can’t lose. A returning Gargagno, especially one the audience adores, can’t lose either. At least not so soon. This almost feels like a proxy battle between Vince McMahon and Triple H. Theory was Vince’s project—no pun—while Gargano was one of Haitch’s prized pupils. I mean, duh, the man came back because his poppa is in charge. Theory fits Vince’s idea of what a WWE wrestler is and should look like. Gargano, well, does not. Haitch took a chance on guys like Johnny while Vince barely gave them the time of day. Philosophically, this might be the most important feud in WWE once it gets going. It might paint a clearer picture of how Haitch sees WWE and the type of athletes he wants in the company. But if Theory prevails, it just shows the old man is still in charge even if he’s “retired.” Extracurriculars New Music Who Dis? Could Dolph Ziggler win on behalf of the locker room vets? That was the question when the Show Off went one-on-one with Finn Balor. Finn’s new music rocked. I hoped it was a new tune for Judgment Day as a whole since their current tune still sounds like Edge and has him in its DNA. My musical gripes aside, Dolph and Finn, to the shock of no one, put on a very good match that Dolph loss due to Rhea Ripley’s interference. When the match broke down to both men just throwing fists, Dolph rocked Finn with a vicious headbutt. It actually looked like he caught him in the throat. Finn found comfort in the arms of the ref, which was all a ruse! Rhea took advantage of the distracted ref, snuffed Dolph with a mean elbow, and a magically recovered Finn did the rest. So the question here is how long do they keep this thing going where the men can’t hit Rhea? At a certain point, the heat on her for constantly interfering on behalf of her crew and dishing out violence in their name will get nuclear. If there’s nowhere to go with it, what’s the point? To say nothing of the fact the men look dumb for not employing their own female equalizer who has no problem knocking Rhea down a peg or three. I like Finn getting in Dolph’s face before the match. Finn believes Dolph is going after the young talent just to remain relevant, which continues the Judgment Day’s reason for living. Good seamless storytelling that furthers the Judgment Day’s story while giving Dolph something to think about in losing. The Tournament Marches Onward... SKY & Kai prevailed over Alexa Bliss & Asuka in the tag tournament. It was an okay match but a tad sloppy at points. The best part was the action before the match when Trish Stratus showed up in front of her home crowd. Of course, Bayley’s crew interrupted the legend, which prompted an entrance from Bianca Belair, Bliss, and Asuka. Trish teased us with a match as she told Bayley she can go from “I am retired” to “I was retired,” which was a very good line turned into a very dope line when Trish took off her jacket and showed she’s still built for a fight. Just give me Bayley vs. Trish Stratus in the not-too distant future please. Fights On like Tys-on Kevin Owens is on a tear. That’s the story here and might be the same story for several weeks. Owens challenged Chad Gable when the latter told Toronto the Alpha Academy was recruiting. Gable badmouthed Toronto and rightly dissed the Toronto Maple Leafs for losing to the Tampa Bay Lightning. Look, I don’t watch hockey but I do know “ice” and “hockey” aren’t the first two things anyone thinks of when they think of any city in Florida. For a hockey team from freakin’—not Seth—Canada loses to that team, that’s unacceptable. But I digress. Chad and Kevin put on a hell of a physical match that all came down to Owens’ determination vs. Gable’s arrogance. Once Owens got the W with the Pop Up Powerbomb, the Academy tried executing the typical post-match beatdown. But Owens wanted all the smoke this week. He bested both members of the Academy and walked away as the conquering hometown hero. I don’t particularly like one man making two men look weak, but I do understand how it makes Kevin look like a man on a mission. But if two men attack one, especially two former tag champs, they should prevail. Good match with some extra material I could do without. Brawl for All Raw barely started before we got our first fight. And I love it. Any time the show starts with a fight between two people who can’t help themselves, I’m happy. The two people in question were Riddle and Seth Rollins. They fought from the backstage area to ringside, showing an intense hatred for one another that all good feuds need. Beth is Ready Remember when I said someone needs to even the odds with Rhea Ripley? Of course you do, I just said it a few paragraphs up. Well, that someone might be—and hopefully is—Beth Phoenix. After Damian Priest and Edge’s good but not spectacular match, a victorious Edge had evil plans for his ex-disciple. Plans involving two chairs and Damian’s skull. Judgement Day made the save and before the numbers game went against Edge, the Glamazon came to her husband’s aide and wrestled a chair away from Balor. The Judgment Day backed off while Rhea and Beth kept their eyes locked on on one another. Yes, yes, and yes. Like I said, Rhea needs her comeuppance and Beth is a perfect candidate to dish it all out. Back Like She Left Something Trish Stratus was all over Raw this week. She even instigated a match between Aliyah and Bayley! Yes, this was Bayley’s first match in God knows how long. And it was just...fine. Nothing awful yet nothing great. Bayley won after Aliyah put up quite the fight in her hometown and looked good while losing. But how do they not advertise Bayley’s first match on Raw in forever? This needed more pomp and circumstance and just felt like another match rather than the big deal that Bayley is in the division. Surprise, Michael (Read that in your best Ghsotface voice from Scream) Well, I figured this space was reserved for discussing the tag match between the team of AJ Styles & Bobby Lashley vs. Ciampa & Miz. Oh how wrong I was. Dexter Lumis showed up towards the end of the match, dressed in Riot officer gear, and kidnapped Miz! No, seriously, he yoked Miz by his neck, pulled him over the barricade, and dragged a kicking and screaming Miz into the bowels of Toronto. Earlier in the show, Adam Pearce and a couple Keystone Cops walked around with Dexter’s picture. Clearly they were outsmarted by his Wil E. Coyote-style cunning. Dexi was even smart enough to have a decoy attack AJ Styles while he waited in the wings for Miz! The opening, Trish, and Johnny’s return highlighted a solid Raw. Grade: B+ 1 Like 1 Share |

pu7pl3:I'm pretty sure Johnny must've discussed terms and gotten himself a sweet deal before leaving Baby Wrestling to return to WWE. So I'm definitely positive he's going to get a decent push sooner rather than later. Too soon for #DIY reunion? Back Like She Left SomethingReally thought Bayley would pull a swerve and have Kota or Iyo get in the ring with Aliyah instead. Her return match really should've been a bigger deal. Also, just like the crowd, I couldn't really get into Lashley and Aj's post match beatdown of Ciampa. Having Ciampa attack Bobby while outnumbered seemed a bit off for his character. |

WWE NXT REVIEWS RECAPS AND REACTIONS No Way Out Bron Breakker is on his way out of NXT. Don’t quote me on that since but call it a hunch. Tyler Bate told Bron why he showed up at Heatwave: title unification. With NXT Europe becoming a thing and NXT UK going the way of the Dodo, Bates believes in one belt to rule them all. Bron, always itching for a fight, agreed. Therefore, it’s title for title at Worlds Collide. Since I don’t foresee Bron defending that belt across Europe or repping the continent as great as someone like D’Lo Brown did, this might be the start of his ending on the paint splat brand. And you know what? I’m cool with that. Bron’s running in place as champion. Whatever that thing was with Joe Gacy showed there’s really nothing interesting for him to do as champ in the territory. Or at least WWE can’t find anything creative for him to do. There are a few cats on NXT ready for the main roster and if Bron isn’t at the top of that list, he’s definitely near the top. This is a great time for it too, because the company as a whole is going through a lot of changes. The men on SmackDown and Raw need more competition because Reigns is running out of challengers, therefore making the main event scene a bit stale at the moment. Bron obviously brings a whole bunch of big booty uncle energy to the proceedings, along with a desire to punch any and everything that moves. It also transitions the entire NXT brand to its next phase, whatever that looks like. Plus, the segment set the tone for the rest of the night, as the show’s overarching story set the table for World’s Collide. This is a lot of words to say I think this is a great move if it’s happening and in fact, I think it should happen. Bron moves on, Tyler moves up, and it clears the board everything creatively. This is Haitch getting up and hitting that reset button on the Super NES—or Sega Genesis—that is NXT. No blowing necessary. Hard Core The best moment in the Lights Out match between Tiffany Stratton and Wendy Choo was Wendy pouring lego blocks out of her pillowcase. After hitting Stratton with the loaded pillowcase, Choo showed us why Stratton hit the mat with a thud. the pain from stepping on a Lego is universal. Thumbtacks are one thing but very few of us can say we never stepped on a Lego or saw someone step on one. It’s a pain I wouldn’t wish on my worst enemy. Making it even better, it was perfectly in character. Wendy is a big kid with a mean streak so it’s only right Lego is her weapon of choice. And it’s perfect storytelling inside of a match that delivered beyond anything I thought possible with the premise. Stratton and Wendy quietly built one of NXT’s most compelling rivalries. They’re diametrically opposed forces and those differences turn their dislike for each other into straight up hatred. This Lights Out match is presumably the end of their beef and the best way to do it. Wendy showed a more serious side of her persona. She let everyone know what time it was when she ditched her onesie on her way to the ring. Subtle storytelling that says a lot! Tiffany used hair spray! There was a spot using Wendy’s bed! Tiffany even brought out the tennis racket! The match just worked from start to finish. Saying anything more about it feels like a disservice to the match itself. Jus know that Wendy won—which shocked me—and this came after she survived several slams into the lego pit she created. The match was fun, violent, character-based, and came with a surprising ending. What more can you ask for? Oh, and Tiffany? No cornrows ever again. Ever. Extracurriculars Ironman Apollo Crews represented himself incredibly well this week. He guested on an episode of The Grayson Waller Effect and verbally jousted with Waller. Yes, he called him a low budget Miz, yes he repped for Nigeria regardless of his accent, and he thanked the NXT crowd. But the best moment was taking Waller’s most poignant barb and making it sound like a boss move. Waller asked Apollo what he tells his kids when he goes home and tells them he couldn’t cut it on Mondays of Fridays so now he works Tuesdays. Crews’ response was perfect: “I tell them daddy was a champion on Monday, a champion on Friday, and now he’s soon to be a champion on Tuesday.” When he puts it like that, it sounds like the best thing ever. Right? And just like that I’m intrigued by a feud between these two. Hard to Earn Jiggs & Brensen can’t catch a break. Thankfully, no sex jokes this week, but they had their hands full with two teams from across the pond who want what they have. During their match with Gallus, Pretty Deadly attacked them. Before they even got to the match, Lash Legend got in Fallon Henley’s face! Those country boys got a lot of beef right now. Those championship belts are really just targets, and a bunch of people are practicing their shots. Gallus has their own set of problems with Diamond Mine. The Mine showed up to repay Gallus in kind, then stood tall as the boys from the UK went running. Okay match with logical action at the end of it. Although, really weird it took the ref that long to call for the bell once Pretty Deadly interfered. Dude...that’s a DQ. Extinction Level Event It looked like the story of Blair Davenport vs. Indi Hartwell was the latter taking another L. Seriously, the woman’s life is a roller coaster. Pray for her. Anyway, the actual story is Blair Davenport, after winning, calling out the NXT Women’s champion. Out came Mandy to demand respect on her name. Before she got the next few words out of her mouth, Meiko Satomura walked to the ring, with her NXT UK championship in hand. Let’s just cut to the chase here: Mandy wants respect on her name so she wants to kill a legend. Meiko wants to further her legend, while Blair is the rightful number one contender. What’s that equal? A triple threat title unification match at World’s Collider. All of it logical, all of it on point. Ill Na Na True love conquers all...except arrest warrants. Remember that whole about Indi not catching a break thing? Guess who showed up to literally give his estranged wife a pick me up? Dexter Lumis! After her loss, Indi bore her soul on the mic in front of the crowd. She was a mess. She was beside herself. Then along came her favorite psycho. He carried her out of the ring and to the lobby of the building. Gave her a...goodbye note, walked out of the building, and surrendered to the keystone cops who told him to put his hands behind his head. So that’s the official end of Index? And was Dexter arrested for kidnapping Miz on the most recent episode of Raw? Also...where is Miz?! While it’s a kick in the gut for fans of romance and Indi, it’s great seeing these brands connected. Roc La Famila While I wasn’t a huge fan of the match between what’s left of Legado del Fantasma and the Dyad (it was okay), I popped for Santos Escobar showing up at the end. LdF walked out of the building dejected after losing their match and just being aimless. An SUV pulled up—that parking lot is always dangerous—and Santos Escobar was behind the wheel. “You think I’d leave without you?” So subtle and so good. LdF is out of NXT and finally ready for the main roster. I cannot wait to see Santos and crew on Mondays or Fridays. Good Kid, M.A.A.D City Tyler Bate looked great tonight. Von Wagner continues his role as a charisma and fun vacuum. The fact Bates got something decent out of Wagner is a testament to his skill. An okay way to build some momentum towards his fight with Bron, if only because Wager isn’t exactly the threat he thinks he is. And there’s no reason for the audience to believe in him on that level either. Capital Punishment We’re still doing this Joe Gacy and Cameron Grimes thing? Le sigh. Grimes defeated Javier Bernal with, you guessed it, The Schism perched up high. They’re just distracting at this point and I’m not interested. The main event really boosted this show for me. It trended solid this week and then that happened. That, plus the set up for future matches that will legitimately change the fate of the territory? All part of a winning formula. NXT balanced introducing the audience to a lot of NXT UK talent they may not know while advancing their own storylines. Not an easy thing to do. Grade: A |

The recent news of NXT UK coming to a close is already a giveaway for the title vs title match. Bates vs Bron will be a good match but we already know the winner, which will be Bron. The ladies triple threat match on the other hand is unpredictable. I can't wait to see LDF on the main roster. The story with Gacy and Cameron grimes continues to unfold. Reminds me of Bray white and Daniel Bryan feud. I wonder which teams will compete for the tag team unification title bout. Briggs and Jensen still haven't sold me as repping the UK brand pu7pl3: |

WWE SMACKDOWN REVIEWS RECAPS AND REACTIONS Friday Night SmackDown is usually a pretty good show but every now and again you get a stinker that doesn’t offer all that much to remember. That’s what happened this week. But there was one segment that stood out. This was so, so, so, so good. Sheamus got the chance to cut his promo, using the line about taking the title into the belly of the red dragon or whatever. He wants to become the first “Ultimate Grand Slam Champion,” whatever the hell that means. Cool. Then it was GUNTHER’s turn, and he was incredible. He promised to teach Sheamus “what violence really means” in order to “protect this title.” “I’m going to chop your chest into bloody bits. I’m going to break your body. I’m going to break your spirit. I’m going to break the men that everybody thinks cannot be broken. Sheamus, the Ring General will break YOU.” INCREDIBLE. I would have been happy if it ended there, the beefy big boys staring each other down. But it didn’t. Instead, BUTCH attacked Ludwig Kaiser. They fought all around the ring, and kept right on fighting, trading blows circling around GUNTHER and Sheamus, who never once broke each other’s gaze. They both absolutely refused to budge, and it made for a pretty damn good visual. Eventually, they both hemmed up their respective lackeys, still staring each other down, and slowly backed off. Sometimes it’s best to keep it simple, and that can be especially true in pro wrestling. You don’t need to reinvent the wheel and a segment like this proves it. Damn, I’m hyped to see these two go at it at Clash at the Castle. All the rest This show went right into a match that saw Ricochet beat Happy Corbin clean in the middle of the ring with the shooting star press. They got 15 minutes and it wasn’t bad. The story seems to be Corbin back on the road to sadness. I’m eager to get there, considering he was far more interesting then and there was much more they could do with him.The noir look and feel for Karrion Kross rules and I genuinely hope it continues. Real Sin City vibes. I loved that movie. Give me another Marv, fighting for his Goldie. The “Second Chance” Fatal 4-Way was a pretty bad match that felt very much like a foregone conclusion they just wanted to sprint their way through to get to the semifinal match they had scheduled for later in the evening. It’s a shame they had Nikki A.S.H. take a big bump in service of it, especially considering it looked like she came a little too close to injuring her lower leg in the process. The semifinal of the Women’s Tag Team Championship Tournament wasn’t much better than the 4-Way earlier in the night. Raquel Rodriguez & Aliyah advanced, because that was always what made the most sense here, and they’re off to Raw next week for the final. All of this feels unnecessary, because IYO SKY & Dakota Kai are winning and everyone is going to expect Sasha Banks & Naomi to confront them after their title win. All of this, then, just feels like a hard slog to get there. The New Day, geniuses they are, set a trap for the VICIOUS VIKINGS by putting Xavier Woods in a wheelchair and making like maybe they need to call it. Naturally, Erik & Ivar fell for it, the big oafs, and got blasted with kendo sticks for their mistake. It’s what they get for burning some shirts, man. Hit Row and the Street Profits did some partying, Maximum Male Models got upset about the loud music somehow messing up their photo shoot, and they drew “Hit Row Sucks” on the bus — which just so happened to be the Street Profits’ bus, who were none too happy. MMM bailed. That was that. Just reading that should tell you everything you need to know about it. Sami Zayn was used again but he’s still being a bad guy in the process and this episode actually made me a little more confused about what the end game with that whole story will be. I mean, yeah, it’s probably going where I think it’s going but they’re gonna need to do more to steer things toward a turn at some point, right? Meanwhile, Roman Reigns is still the most dominant champion we’ve seen in some time, always standing tall, always on top, using numbers like he’s the leader of the nWo and every show ends the same like it’s late 1996 on TNT. I don’t hate it. He’s a great champion. Really enjoyed the GUNTHER/Sheamus confrontation but the rest of this show was really lacking. Grade: D+ |
