As per current rate, Coral money market fund managed by FSDH is a very good alternative.
Let me know when you are ready to come onboard

Post the characteristic of Coral money market fund as iam not comfortable with mutual funds that invest a large percentage in stocks. When i had not yet be grounded in financial markets, a mutual fund i subscribed to for my kids almost wiped out the money. I had to quickly pull out and then made it up the shortfall with my own funds.

Yes it is high but Afrinvest always have a way of trying to eat deep into it. Their charges and 10% taxation that will be introduced into it from no where does not go well with me. That's why I like Coronation MB. They seldom charge those ridiculous extra charges and taxes when arranging or partnering for either Commercial Papers or Corporate Bonds. Their issuer takes care of those cost. However with Afrinvest, after collecting from the issuer, you will still be charged and taxed on the non taxables.

By the name and regulatory rules, Coral money market funds can never be invested in stocks. the underlying assets are basically Tbills, and commercial papers. If mutual fund assets have stocks as part of it, it's no longer a money market fund instead it's a balanced fund.
That is why MMF is a low-risk investment window.

Features:

Underlying Assets: Treasury bills, commercial paper

Rate as at today 10.31%

Minimum investment of N5, 000.00 and subsequent investment of N5, 000.00

Invests 100% in fixed income securities and money market instruments

Fund Manager: FSDH Asset Management Ltd
Lower risk
Custodian: UBA
Trustees: UTL TRUSTEES
Regulator: SEC

Reinvestment, quarterly payment or Monthly withdrawal of interest allowed

High interest rate double digit
- Monthly payment of interest
- Quarterly interest payment
- Compounding of interest
- Easy entry and exit
- Top up of funds at anytime with ease
- No WHT on interest
- For Long or short term and can be invested for minors as well
- Safe and guaranteed capital
- Superlative customer service then come over and invest in

(1) How is this rate determined on a daily basis

(2) Is interest accrual daily and if so what rate is used

(3) What do you mean by "Monthly payment of interest" and "Quarterly interest payment"?. Is it that somebody has to choose one of the options?.

1. Performance of the assets in which d fund is invested determines the rate

2. Yes interest is accrued daily. The displayed interest ie 10.31% is per annum so for a day it will be 10.31/365

3. By default interest accrued will be reinvested at the end of each quarter. Investors can now opt for the accrued interest to be paid to them every month or paid at the end of the quarter. The monthly payment option is unique to FSDH generally accrued interest is paid/reinvested quarterly

So no real guaranteed rate meaning rate can get as low as possible and can go as high as possible.

What is the frequency of change of this rate or at what frequency is it reviewed?. For instance, the current rate is 10.31% P.A which means accruals will now be done with that rate. Is the rate revalued on a daily, monthly or quarterly or yearly basis?.

Rates are guaranteed but not fixed. What that means is that you can never lose money in MMF. Please note underlying assets in MMF are not volatile hence it's low risk.

The rate is always per annum but prorated/ valued daily with the formula as stated above and your investment gets the interest of that day base on the current rate.
Generally, for all MMF when there is an increase in the rate in the monetary policy, Tbills rates in all tenors will be high and basically, all money market instruments will have higher rates than before in effect increasing the rate of MMF.
As early mentioned it's not volatile like stocks even if the rate is not fixed. For any conservative/high-risk adverse investor, MMF is the best bet.

There is not money market fund with a fixed rate, the rate will be determined by interest rates and the current performance of the underlying assets of the fund eg commercial papers, Treasury Bill, fixed deposit etc

@ Emmasoft, @ Emmanuelewumi and the house, please I need your advice, I called my account officer at Zenith bank, to liquidate my TBills I subscribed last week, but he told me, I will lose 15% to 20% of the capital, that is the penalty. I asked why, it was 5% when i subscribed. He said I better leave it till maturity. Sir, please is it true.
Thank you

That is the norm, why buy an investment to sell in less than 2 weeks?

When you subscribe TB there is a proof of investment/Certificate alway given. In that proof, the terms and conditions of the contract is stated there.

Normally deductions should be from to the interest earned not capital. However, the issue with TB is that interest is collected in advance. So it will eventually eat deep into your capital bearing in mind the upfront collected and the charges taken.
