Raise the status of teachers, and give them the honour they deserve, pay them well, and watch the number grow astronomically.

I'm a graduate. I have a B.Sc in Geography and Planning.

Early this year, I went to a secondary school in my area here in Lagos for a teaching interview.

After a rigorous interview process by the school admin, the principal told me my salary is going to be 35K per month.

And I'm to teach the whole school. Geography for senior secondary while another subject for junior secondary.

How do you want a graduate to live on that with the entire stress of teaching in this present Nigeria where common 200 Naira Bread has risen to 800-900 Naira

Funny thing is I love teaching but loving something with such salary this present day Nigeria is SLAVERY.

During my NYSC in 2018, I taught throughout. My salary was just 5K per month and it wasn't regular. Yet the school used us. I thought the whole school both Geography and Agric.

Thank God for the NYSC ALawee of 19800 Naira that was saving my life. My mates working in companies were collecting way more even as Corpers.

Anyways, after that interview day, I said Bye Bye to teaching in Nigeria.

I'm on my own focusing on my Healthcare Business.

Last week, in a single day, I made 44K from what I do.

Its not regular tho but I prefer to hustle on my own than slave teaching in one school for such amount of salary in a whole month.

Education in Nigeria is under a hot crises and I fear for the future.

The useless school owners have been exploiting teachers with huge work load and poor pay. My mums friend makes 30m every term and mostly buys houses with it while she pays teachers 15k a month. What kind of evil is that

This is a lie.

Making 30M, and paying teacher 15K... that's a lie...

Pls move to FP. Tanx.

Who want to they collect that useless salary they paying when the cost of living is skyrocketing?

Some pays as low as 10k for primary school teacher with NCE Certificate.
What can such peanut amount do for a person in a month, even without family?

I was a teacher before I JAPA to other area of life

Proprietors do have meetings where many peg salaries at such low amount and they collect much from Parents.

Some of them are very unfair to staff. When a staff realise he/she's not a slave, he/she ll leave private schools

1. Pressure from management to do things in a particular way without considering the teacher
2. Stressful teaching environment.
3. Poor pay, much load
4. Unfriendly management.
5. Out of work routine activities.
6. Long duration of meetings.
7. Unnecessary deduction of salaries.
8. Failure to look into staff welfare.
9. I don't care attitude.
10. Not valuing staff and what they stand for.
The solution is to fix the aforementioned problems

Poor pay

why don private schools employ mostly females?

I would never send my male child to any school with 90% female teachers.
Why?

The reasons are many. Some of the reasons are poor salary, poor condition of service, job not pensionable, some school owners are bullies.
Majorly poor enumeration. Imagine 15,000 to do what as salary and such school is collecting 20,000 per term from pupils.

The owners are selfish and always want to enslave teachers. After students pay school fees, they pay meagre salary and treat teachers as if they created them even after over using them.fir instance,in some private schools, physics teacher takes chemistry, biology and sometime technical drawing.

I was a private schoolteacher ! The experience is horrible !
A teacher must take all classes!
5000 pupils and students
The school fee of a pupil will allocated or used to pay the teacher for all seasons .
No payment during holiday !
Some half payment and present in the school premises during the vacation .
Ómó! Modern slave in the neighbourhood.

Before I went to the University, I taught in a private school and the salary I saw given to graduate got me rattled. How can a married man survived with a salary of 35k even now they still pay as low as that, atleast majority of the schools. The worst part is majority of those teachers are doing it because they have not seen a better job else where. Once they see, na Japa ooo.
