Of course yes. Not far from the hospital. Always have my check up every 3 to 4 months.
Sincerely, I don't take any medication for now and I don't take drug except prescribed by doctor. Gone are the days that I take iron sucrose and erythropoietin weekly and it's very expensive.

Such person should take his or her time to visit general hospital to see varieties of sickness and disease in Nigeria then self advise will be fine afterward.

Majority of Renal patient who die after few days of their illness was due to some fact. I'm not a doctor or medical practitioner, a scientist or a researcher in fact I'm not a science student but this my sickness made me do research about kidney and kidney disease. The killer of Renal patient are:

1. High blood pressure or hypertension. Many renal patient dies as a result of hypertension which is mostly the results of overthinking. Some persons believe that kidney disease is a death sentence and begin to give up on themselves whereas it's not the end.

2. High blood sugar or diabetes. Diabetes is another sickness that can cause kidney disease and can worsen it. So diabetes patient should be more careful and take their medication and avoid some certain foods and drinks.

3. Low blood or Anaemia. Many patients die due to this fact too as low blood can make the kidney to overwork and cause shortness of breath and fatigue. This was my case and maintaining it can be very expensive especially for poor Nigerians like myself.

4. Poor feeding or Eating food that will create more waste in the body. Some foods are healthy but not for kidney patients. These kind of food will create lots of waste build up in the blood which is to be eliminated by the kidney but since the kidney can perform little or no filtration function, waste and water buildup in the body will lead to other sickness and can block the lungs and cause suffocation which can lead to death.

These four keys must be considered and well observed. Lack of information too is another killer. I'm sharing this information to help other patients who are in my shoes. But don't forget that I'm not a doctor or medical practitioner. The advise of the doctor is paramount.

I feel so happy and refreshed reading your testimony. I think medical personnel should mention cases where people survive these 'terminal diseases' that are terminal because of our perception of local healthcare and lack of funds.

Our insurance system also need to be revamped. I don't think there is any insurance scheme that pays for these terminal diseases

I think treatment of terminal diseases must be free. Everybody must be given a chance to live until their Body-Systems is done. Government should take over the treatment of all terminal diseases across hospitals except for Super Riches.

Once Your Terminal Diseases is above your level of Income and Total Wealth: voluntary Donor's should take Over via Gofund Me and Government must pay up any remaining Balances on the Treatment.

The Problem is abuse, Many people will abuse themselves with the expectations that Government and Donor will fund their Ailments: Kai

Guys, I need help here… I had a blood test done that shows my GFR is 84.. with high creatinine which is 6 points below normal

The worrisome part is I did same test a month ago and my GFR was perfectly fine at 99!

That sharp drop really scares me, I recently started taking hypertensive drugs too, any advice on how to get my Function back to optimal please??

I once had a 24 year old female student who had a kidney transplant here in Nigeria. Fund for her transplant was donated by her state government and she got her new kidney from her mother. Despite all the warning about unprescribed medications and herbs, she went ahead to use a herbal mixture for heavy menstrual flow and she suffered acute kidney injury with allograft (transplanted kidney) rejection.

She went back to hemodialysis because her given kidney had failed.

Sadly, she died while trying to raise fund for the second kidney transplant.

This results is okay but if you have complains see your doctor. Avoid some certain foods and drinks that can build up waste in your blood.

As at today 8th of February 2022, It has been about 6years that I was diagnosed with stage 3 Acute kidney disease.

I begin to feel sick in January 2016 with symptoms of malaria and begin treating my malaria via self medication and later having fever with a very high body temperature.

I couldn't eat, i was very weak and I can't do anything but only to lay on the bed. I couldn't sleep during the day and at night and still doing self medication because of lack of money.

My sickness continues for some days and was still taking over the counter drugs until a bad day when I fainted and later get up and asked my neighbor to take me to a pharmacy to buy drug again but I was rejected and was advised to go to the hospital.

I was admitted at private hospital where a blood transfusion and some other treatment was given to me and I was discharged from the hospital 4days. I was at home taking the drugs given to me at the hospital and seems to be getting better but after some days, my health begins getting worse.

At this time i couldn't eat and I will throw up if I try putting anything in my mouth and drinking water was the only thing. Lost of appetite, fatigue and heartburn was on the high side and I have to go back to the hospital to put up my complains which I did and I was given some drugs (for heartburn and sleeping pills) to treat my illness.

Haven taken the drugs for few days and I begin going to the toilet several times a day but having difficulty to defecate and urinate. My stool was dark and my urine was little and very dark too.

This continues for some days until I begin to observe that I'm swelling. My stomach was protruding, my face and legs were swollen, i couldn't sleep at night and always having difficulty in breathing and was more severe at night.

I went to another private hospital and i was referred to Luth (Lagos State University Teaching Hospital) immediately after a test result shows that my PCV was at 10%. I was admitted in LUTH and several test were done and at that time my PCV had increased to 12% after taking malt and milk to replenish and gain some strength.

Sadly on the next day, I was diagnosed with kidney failure (Acute Kidney Disease) with stage 3 GFR and Chronic anaemia.

I'm not diabetic so i eat rice, egg, garri (Eba), Amala, semo, Bread, yam, spaghetti, fufu, snacks(i do avoid wheat), cassava, maize and fruits such as apple, cucumber, coconut, pawpaw, dates, and i also takes little milk not much as it may cause the kidney to overwork to eliminate the buildup of waste in the body. Avoid banana, watermelon, yogurt, full-cream milk, caffeinated drink or food, high protein food or drink, high sodium or salty food or drink, high phosphorus and potassium food or drink and avoid beans and any food made with beans. Drink lots of water unless advised by the doctor to reduce your fluid intake. This really help me a lot as i avoided salt for over 3 years.

SO HERE ARE THE TOP 6 CAUSES OF KIDNEY DISEASE:

1. Delaying going to a toilet. Keeping your urine in your bladder for too long is a bad idea. A full bladder can cause bladder damage. The urine that stays in the bladder multiplies bacteria quickly. Once the urine refluxes back to the ureter and kidneys, the toxic substances can result in kidney infections, then urinary tract infections, and then nephritis, and even uremia. When nature calls – do it as soon as possible.

2. Eating too much salt. You should eat no more than 5.8 grams of salt daily.

3. Eating too much meat. Too much protein in your diet is harmful for your kidneys. Protein digestion produces ammonia – a toxin that is very destructive to your kidneys. More meat equals more kidney damage.

4. Drinking too much caffeine. Caffeine is a component of many sodas and soft drinks. It raises your blood pressure and your kidneys start suffering. So you should cut down the amount of coke you drink daily.

5. Not drinking water. Our kidneys should be hydrated properly to perform their functions well. If we don’t drink enough, the toxins can start accumulating in the blood, as there isn’t enough fluid to drain them through the kidneys. Drink more than 10 glasses of water daily. There is an easy way to check if you are drinking
enough water: look at the color of your urine; the lighter the color, the better.

6. Late treatment . Treat all your health problems properly and have your health checked regularly. Let's help ourselves...God will protect you and your family from every disease this year.

If you are a renal disease patient, please don't give up on yourself because you can survive it and live a happy life. If you are on dialysis, please don't joke with it and be close to your hospital and help yourself by following the doctor's advise. Eat healthy food, keep to your diet, treat any sickness early and avoid those food that i have stated on this platform. Don't think too much because hypertension kills faster that kidney disease. Be positive and always remember that GOD is in control.

Today, I look back on my journey from being diagnosed with stage 3 acute kidney disease in 2016, to sharing my story on Feb 8, 2022 and I can only say All praise is due to Almighty Allah. As of today (28/03/2026), I am alive, stronger, and in good health. Ya Allah, I am forever grateful for Your mercy, Your healing, and Your protection. You turned my pain into a testimony.

There were days I couldn’t eat, couldn’t sleep, couldn’t even stand. Days of fear, weakness, and uncertainty. But Allah never left me. Even when I didn’t understand what was happening, He was writing a better ending for me.

To anyone going through a similar situation right now: please don’t give up. No matter how hard it gets, hold on to faith and keep fighting. Seek proper medical attention and don’t rely only on self-medication. Your life is too precious.

Healing may take time, but it is possible. Your story is not over yet.

May Allah grant healing to everyone battling illness, ease your pain, strengthen your heart, and restore your health. Ameen 🤲🏽
