Just to help anyone out there not doing it yet, please always file for compensation/refunds whenever you've received sh#tty service in this country. I've done it a couple of times and it's been successful.

For example, Virgin Atlantic delayed my flight from Nigeria to London...over 5hrs delay, I got over £500. Megabus delayed my trip for 4 hours (bus broke down and no replacement, we were stranded in middle of the night), I got the ticket value refunded.

Train was delayed (regular occurrence nowadays)...I got a partial refund.
Basically, I'd rather have an efficient service, however when they choose to mess up, it is great to have this as a fall back option. It is very rewarding...just thought to share.

PS - Just wish one can sue some Govt Agencies sha. Home office, NHS and co. will go bankrupt lol

Pls someone tried using Lemonade but the verification process was tough, uploaded copy of driver's license and Eu passport but wasn't successful, pls what is the best means of identification for swift Verification..

NB, the person resides in the UK!

U.K residence permit
U.K drivers license
British passport
Biometric Residence Permit (BRP)

In my own case I uploaded just the BRP and Nigerian passport and was okay.

Is the Driver's Licence a european or british licence?

I hope this helps

Good morning my people. I have been looking for an apartment for a while now and I just managed to get accepted by a landlord (the competition is real). But my issue now is that the house fully runs on electric. I have heard so much about how electric is way costlier than gas. Right now, I don't know if I should just go ahead with it considering the fact that it is very difficult to secure an accommodation now or wait for an apartment that uses gas.

Is gas worth the wait?
Is electric as bad as people make it sound?
Please I need your suggestions

I was in your exact position last year and I took the Electric cos "what's the alternative? Keep searching with no end in sight?". True, the bills were higher: when gas folks were doing £80, I was doing about £240 so 3 times more. Thankfully, I could afford it. I also had to make changes in the way I used my heating to reduce the bills. I have a feeling if I had reduced my Thermostat to 19°c, I may have gone well below £200.

Funny story: my first month, I had my heater on 24/7 with Thermostat at about 30°c, my bill was about £900 for a month. Electric heating doesn't forgive such carelessness.

So, yes, electric is more expensive. Should you take it? it's up to you to decide.

Considering cost of rent affordability and transport cost to London and also raising a young family (childcare cost)

Living in Colchester or Kent which one makes more sense

I lived in Kent once albeit 10 years ago.

I loved it. It had this beauty and serenity

I think is cheaper to commute to London from Kent than Colchester.

With a biased mind, I would go for Kent - there are lots of lovely villages on both the Charing Cross to Hastings and the Charing Cross to Ashford train lines and the massive advantage is that Kent is a grammar school area and there are lots of nice rural primary schools as well.

You can sue anyone you want to as long as you have a cause of action. Why do you think professionals here have to have insurance and defensive medicine, for instance, is a thing?

Just be careful and "look face well" if you want to tangle with the Home Office or HMRC and check your matter well because those two are the masters of lawfare - they can out-lawyer and outspend you. Remember they have visa applicants' and taxpayers' money respectively to play with while you are spending your salary. The Home Office especially is particularly fond of that, taking cases they have clearly lost to appeal instances and so on, just to frustrate the litigant.

I understand what you mean, but the odds are not great. I just googled sue Home Office and saw this piece:

https://www.garthcoates.com/news/can-the-home-office-be-sued-for-extreme-delay/

Basically the dude's application was delayed for over 2 yrs for a 30 months Visa. He only had it for 5 months when he finally received it, so he sued them because he must have lost job opportunities...and the govt is basically saying...nope, you don't have enough evidence. It doesn't make sense at all.
Las las, even if successful (just as you alluded to) it's not as easy to get compensation like some big brands e.g Virgin Atlantic and co.

Really sad case, but in terms of evidence, the summary doesnt state that the litigant presented any specific evidence of job opportunities he'd lost.

For instance, if he had actually applied for, and gotten a job or some jobs subject to [references and] proof of right to work as job offers usually state, he could then assert that "I got so and so job paying X pounds per month, after tax, but couldn't take it up because I didn't have my BRP to evidence my right to work. Therefore I have quantified my losses due to the absence of a BRP for 25 months at 25 times X (that job's monthly salary)." He could then tender as evidence his offer letter and possibly the correspondence between himself and the potential employer showing that the job offer was eventually withdrawn because he couldn't prove his right to work.

That's the kind of thing courts want to hear.

I'm not holding brief for the HO here, I'm just pointing out that the last statement in that article you cited is the most key : "Instruct a good lawyer". However, as always, "good soup, na money kill am".

the £150 they sent? Or the single occupancy discount? No these are not.
Scared to redeem mine cos I don’t want £150 to spoil my parole. I was billed council tax and when I paid, they made a refund and said I was exempt. My question is, are people who are exempt from council tax entitled?

Omg that is really high. You for no jump buy car immediately like that o because insurance rates are also dependent on your credit record. As you have just arrived, you won't have built a record yet.

You can either check comparison websites that will search the whole market for you or your best bet is to find someone that completely trusts you, and is willing to do the insurance for you and add you as a named driver. This will reduce the amount significantly, though it is hard because I won't do this for anyone except my immediate family so hopefully you have good people around you that can help you with this. If not, you better sell the car and use public transport for a while until you're settled in.
Sorry o.
