Heavy handed punishment as usual. This is why people lie and go to extremes to bribe or try to cover crimes.

No matter the traffic offense, this is an extreme punishment. A fine, or compulsory traffic course, community service, etc.

We are too wicked in this country, Tufiakwa

This is stupid! Why not impound his car and force him to pay 100k in 4 months instalments instead or some other fine that still ends with the man recovering his vehicle at the end of the day. I feel the man's agony. He probably must be feeding his family from the proceeds of that car!

owners should have a first right of refusal if it comes down to this.

Let them be front of the bid. There is no crime enough in civil matters warranting you take someone hard earn property. Especially In lagos were it will take half a working lifetime plus a day to recover it. Its just not fair.

Very soon they will auction Lagos state because it is full of too many people who break the law.

How many genuine people were caught and cars auctioned off? The law is for the poor!!

This is not funny ! Governance is all about the welfare of the people. Whatever traffic offence the man must have committed, the penalty shouldn't be above his financial reality ! The government has failed this man regardless of his offence. You can't continue to make or turn citizens to enemies of the state because of law. Law is made for man but not man for the law !

angry

One just simply can't give into sentiments of this country must grow. Well done Lagos state....

This is governance per excellence. Peter Obi needs to adopt this sort of mindset at the Federal level to deal decisively with corruption when he takes over next year in Aso Rock

So, Peter Obi is learning work from Tinubu's Lagos?

I have always said it that Peter Obi lacks the qualifications to even be a Commissioner in Lagos.

In my county in the US, they will confiscate your HOUSE for failure to pay property taxes and sell it for peanuts to the highest bidder. That's your problem. No one to beg or cry to.

Nigerians want to live like Oyinbo but don't want Oyinbo way of life....

It's a pity. Instead of auctioning them always maybe there should be fines for different categories of vehicles.
Sometime ago a friend of mine got his N3m car impounded n on the day it was to be auctioned,he went there with N2.5m with the hope that nobody would offer that much but quite unfortunately, when it got to 2m,he offered to buy only for someone to bid for N5m!!!
He said he almost collapsed as the last bidder took the car. According to him,he suspected foul play as the car wasn't even sold for that high at car marts.
I felt so sorry for him.
Can we say auctioning is a scam?

Well, that is draconian, to say the least.

Since he was there during the auctioning, he should have notified the officials so the officials in turn give him a concession such that he will be the one to buy the car. If that happens, he will end up buying his own car even at less than competitive price. The amount he pays for the car now being his fine for whatsoever offence he had committed.

Yes, it happened to a colleague who got his car imported with fake papers and the customs officers impounded the car. His car was subsequently auctioned to him at a very reduced price.

Anyway, no need crying over spilled milk, he should take heart, shiits do happen.

I disagree with you.

The punishment for one-way driving is for the vehicle to be impounded. Other offences carry lesser fines.

One-way drivers are potential murderers and in addition to the vehicle being impounded, he should be jailed for minimum of 5 years.
I have seen one-way of drivers run over pedestrians and run away. Others cause accidents and end up taking lives.
