Mubbyleey: In Yankee, they would have been sued to splits by now. Na traffic offence, no be person e kill. Why do some of you always think that things like this happen in west? Everytime, people will be like "in saner climes, in saner climes". If you knew how things worked in saner climes, you'd think otherwise. |

This is what Tinubu brought to Lagos. And he will introduce it in all states in Nigeria if we vote him. Most of our leaders are wicked and heartless. |

aestake: Not sure why you tagged me however, I want to presume there are penalties for various offenses. I am not sure there will be any penalty such as auctioning a car for a first time offense of any kind. Surely, there are more to this dynamics than we can conclude from a face value. |

LeoDeKing: This is the same mindset that made Nigeria the toilet that it has become today. The leaders are exactly like the people they lead. In-fact, both come from the same cesspit. The law is clear. They all broke it. Nothing draconian about anything. There is no need to notify anybody. There is no concession he should be given. There is no place for competitive price at an auction. Highest bidder wins. Shikena Your colleague connived with govt agencies to circumvent the duties payable on a car the second time. In your eyes, thats being smart. Next week, you and your colleague will speak about corruption in government officials. In a single post, you have made public two ways the system should be compromised. Nigeria is not yet in trouble. All this one is still rehearsal. 1 Like |

dante0147: Something as simple as not renewing your vehicle license, you get towed, you don't satisfy the citations, WILL GET YOUR CAR AUCTIONED IN THE US. SanwoOlu did not order the auctions. Lagos State has a law that CERTAIN traffic violations will lead to forfeiture and auction. Every car auctioned broke those laws. There are many other traffic violations that you don't forfeit your car in Lagos. And you trying to make passing one way a small and simple thing everyone shouldn't be upset about is wrong. |

Mubbyleey:We wouldn't want a Nigeria that punishes people far more than their offences.. Let the punishments be commiserate and on-line with the offence.. .. This is heart breaking. .. If Lagos is replicated in the whole of Nigeria, we are going to cry more than we are happy |

The Govement is doing the right thing, but rather in a harsh way. They could impose a heavy fine on violators, while they set them up on a montly payment plan for their fine. Fifty thousand Naira is good enough, and payment be split to about 6 months - 1 year. Violators should also be made to sign legal documents consenting to the disposal of the vehicle if they default in payment twice. This is method better than impounding and selling off peoples car for peanuts, over little traffic infractions. |

Wickedness! Why not charge them default fee like 50k-70k instead of selling somebody car for a token. Some of them may be innocent not aware of the traffic laws. The black man is so selfish |

coconutbag: It is less than commensurate with the cost of engaging all those road marshals all over the place. Money that could always find better use in health care and education. We spend too much as a nation attending to senseless law breakers. Imagine installing traffic lights and you still engage a posy of policemen right there to ensure the lights are obeyed.... haba, is that not a serious waste of public funds. No deterrent is too strong abeg. Left to me our criminality can fund our budgets. How many lawmen can N400,000 pay sef? What is the FCT waiting for, clean up our streets and rid them of madmen at the wheel. |

OROSUNBOLB: Of course the people decide the kind of society they live in. If the people feel traffic as a result of misdemeanors is not a weighty concern I am sure the State will hands off. The officials criticised here can always get sirens to clear their way anytime the wander around. The government is simply responding to what it thought the people yearned for, alas they were all pretending it was a concern.... not so.? Only in Nigeria are the people unable to decide what they want. And this demonstration of confliction is why this nation simply cannot move forward. We truly need restructuring to establish common values. |
