Platini vs Zidane is a fair debate. I would probably just favour Zidane.

Rossi might not even make Top 5 Italian players. Italy's list is different from most countries because of their history of great defenders and keepers. Buffon, Zoff, Maldini, Baresi are probably ahead of Rossi and Baggio, Meaza have to be considered as well.

Seriously did you watch him play? Maradona won the world cup in 1986 and also got to the final in 1990, dominating both tournament. Maradona joined Napoli and turned them into a powerhouse of Italian Football, winning a European cup in the process too. On no planet would anybody rate a one club wonder/system player Messi to Maradona, can Messi win a World Cup completely dominating the tournament the way Maradona did in 1986? If you remove GKs Maldini, Baresi, Baggio are still better than Rossi. The wording of the caption is important. BEST footballer (not most accomplished international).
Baresi, Maldini, Baggio were better footballers than Rossi IMO. If you google greatest or best Italian player of all time you would struggle to find any list with Rossi in Top 5.
