God!!! You are making me very livid with your absolute lack of knowledge in literally anything. USA built China(CCP) They outsourced all their productions and labor to China because of their population who are also extremely hard working. Almost all US companies have their labour parts in China including Apple. If you have anyone using iPhone turn the back and read what's written there. USA built China during Cold War and kept India down because Indians were more sympathetic to Soviet Union. You better educated yourself on how global politics works and stop burying your head in sand.
And yes, imperial Japan plundered China. Japan was only kept down by USA. Even Russia collect for Japan hand in 1905

UNIVERSITY OF IBADAN WAS NOT A UNIVERSITY UNTIL 1962, AFTER INDEPENDENCE. Prior to that, it was a 'university college' - with supposed links to the University of London.

''Established'' on paper. Construction began around 1958. It never actually opened to the public till 7th Oct 1960 AFTER Independence.

SO I AM 100% CORRECT.

There was not ONE SINGLE UNIVERSITY IN NIGERIA AT INDEPENDENCE.

Abeg just stop talking. What's your problem really?

no dey talk mumu talks. You are clearly out of your league in this discourse. Instead of you to humble yourself and learn ego will not make you admit your naivety. You want to compare Rwanda to Nigeria? How many people are in Rwanda? If you cut out Lagos Rivers, Delta and Kano and use it to form a country you will see that our only competitors will be South Africa and Egypt and you will realise that we have done better than most Eastern European countries. The fact that you even brought Ethiopia here further shows that you are a little kid. Ethiopia that was never colonised.

why did USA outsource their manufacturing to China if they weren't hardworking. Fools like you must learn by fire by force or be publicly humiliated. Venezuela is under sanction by USA. Stop randomly putting out names without considering the demographic, what the people did and US foreign policy in that specific region

All the so called achievement you think should be a reason to hail our past leaders, who should we blame for all the debts Nigeria has incured, considering the fact that Nigeria used to be a country that lends money to Japan and other country's in the 70's?
That was because we had excess petro-dollers from the 1972 middle east crisis and our leaders did not know what to do with the excess money. Remember our problem then was not money but how to spend it. Meanwhile, we had no functional international airport, railway system, roads, etc, at that time.

Today, Japan is more developed than Nigeria; Who should we blame for it? Our past leaders or not? Should we blame the Nigerians (followers)? Well, I think the followers such as you should be blamed because you keep enjoying the low standard your leaders have put you. Compare your life with that of other countries' citizens and see that they are better off than you.
Not just today, Japan had always been more developed than Nigeria. In the 70s Japan was already an industrialised nation. Japan had achieved almost 100% literacy level by yhe beginning of the 20th century, when our own literacy level was almost zero.

Today, Nigerian graduates are moving to other countries for better life, even though they are paid less than foreigners (counterparts) from other countries simply because Nigeria is of low standard. If you don't know, you are a product of your country and if you don't aim high for your country, others won't rate you high.
That's because Nigerians want to enjoy a ready made society built on the sweat and sacrifices of others, instead of sweating and sacrificing to build out own society. We like to enjoy ready made.

Guy, I won't blame you because even a fool is wise to himself but try to humble your stupidity. Fella sang it in one of his songs about people like you.

Fela never ran away, he choose to come back and fight for a better society for Nigeria and back Africa. If we can get just 10 Felas in the whole of Nigeria. Nigeria will start to become a better country.

WHAT EXACTLY IS YOUR PROBLEM?

THAT IS DID NOT ACCEPT THE POSTER'S LIES?

So because you are unsatisfied with the govt's performance, qwe shpuld tell lies about them and exaggerate their uselessness?

WHY?

There is not one thing I typed in response to that oaf that was untrue.

He claimed our politicians came in after independence and ''destroyed our education system''.

But there was no ''educational system'' before independence.

What was your grandpa or great grandpa's job?

Was he a doctor or lawyer or engineer?

I can say with 99.5% certainty he wasn't, but was an illiterate village peasant.

Or is it power supply?

Just about everyone lived in darkness before independence, and it wasn't about power cuts or turning on a gen. Nobody knew how to wire a house before independence.

Our national soccer team toured England in the 1950s barefooted. The colonial ministry of sports did not bother introducing them to football boots. (And you thought the NFF bad?)

As for Nigerians leaving for greener pastures, are you aware that that is actually a sign of a nation's SUCCESS in creating an educated and enlightened population?

Could your illiterate GRANDPA under colonialism wake up one day and decide to 'japa'?

Did he know where America was or how to get there, or what he would do if he got there?

SO COUNT YOUIR BLESSINGS INSTEAD OF SITTING SOMEWHERE BLAMING 'LEADERS' WITHOUT WHOM YOU WOULD BE STARK ILLITERATE TODAY WALKING AROUND BAREFOOTED IN THE VILLAGE AND CARRYING A HOE.

Was there ever a blessing to count. Shm. U just highlighted some good oldies. And after then what has happened. Nigeria have been on reverse gear. Nothing good has ever come out of this country. Nothing.

because some Nigerians have access to small good life or are lucky to be born to a prosperous family make them think that is how it is for everyone.

In this same Nigeria, some people are just dieing without seen electricity ever in their life, some don't know what express road look like. Not to talk of watching cinema.

Nigeria lost it at a point.

Yesterday I have to wash my car and remove the battery due to bad road. Na till dry season again before I will be able to drive my car o.

Have bought a bike. Pls is that achievement.

I have to buy solar, because we are just contributing money to buy pole in my neighborhood, not gotten to stage of wire or transformer yet.

Shm on Nigeria abeg

Seconded!

Who loves to wallow in so much past glories? Africans!
Who often says, then if you see the things I used to do? Africans
Who loves wallowing in self-pity, and wouldn't want to pick him/herself up — in order to forge ahead? Africans.

Just imagine — In just over two decades, Dubai has transformed from a desert backwater port to a thriving metropolis with the third-most skyscrapers in the world. What is Nigeria's excuse? and we have the same crude oil as Dubai if not even more?

So we should all just look for a way to forge ahead rather than wallowing in past glory! Because the last time I checked, you don't term something that didn't end well a success!

'Tertiary' simply means 'post secondary education'.

''Tertiary education refers to all formal post-secondary education, including public and private universities, colleges, technical training institutes, and vocational schools''.

https://www.worldbank.org/en/topic/tertiaryeducation

Yaba came under the highlighted and was never a university.

Donkey. NO GO SCHOOL LEARN WETIN BE UNIVERSITY.

It's very apparent that you opened this thread to spew out how much hate you have in you.

In your opening statement, you said most Africans were not educated during the colonial period yet now you're crying wolf over Yaba college that was founded within that era to provide education for Africans not being a tertiary institution.

Your heart needs love badly. Don't let hate kill you while you are still alive.

At independence we had NO ''educational system''. There was not one single university in Nigeria, compared to the 200+ we have today, courtesy of the NIGERIAN leaders you claimed ''destroyed'' something that never existed.

One more thing. Without independence in 1960, you'd be a stark illiterate village farmer today. Or a hunter. The colonial regime did not invest in public education, and national literacy rate was 7% at independence. That figure is 78% today, courtesy of NIGERIAN leaders who came in and introduced free and/or near free education and built thousands of public schools, including the ones that educated your parents.

As for ''putting you in more darkness'', you were in near absolute darkness before independence. In fact there was no national grid built before independence. Most homes were not even wired to receive power. The British did not build any power stations. They imported industrial generators to light up affluent parts of town (GRAs, Ikoyi etc) where they and their native serfs lived. The overwhelming majority of Nigerians lived in darkness using lanterns and candles.

Kainji Dam was our first power plant, and it was commissioned in 1964.

Today we have countless power plants covering hundreds+ million people. Intermittently yes, but getting better and better.

He is even more foolish not to realise that the same Peter Obi contributed to the darkness despite wasting $16 billion by Atiku and Obi in PDP government. Obi was part of committee that awarded contracts to discos and gencos. And dobt need to say how they further plunged us into darkness.

I stopped reading at the first paragraph. University of Ibadan was established in 1948. As a college with ties to University of London though, became a degree awarding institution in 1962.

UNN was established on 18th May, 1955.

Nonetheless, Nigeria had visionary leaders in the first republic. Though not perfect, but still they were visionaries with some degree of compassion for the masses. Unlike the evil vultures lurking around from the late 70s till date.

The coup of January 1966 was needless, and derailed the country from its path to unity and greatness.

False. Which Nigeria has been on reverse gear? Why not state which economic, social or physical indices that has been on reverse gear, so we can compare. Let's compare decade by decade since independence.

I I agree that our leaders could have done better, but even at that, we are still the best performing in Africa, save a few countries like South Africa and Egypt and maybe Morocco. Check how many villages have turned to towns and how many towns have turned to cities. Nigeria has the largest number of urban cities in the whole of Africa. How many urban cities does Ghana, Kenya or Rwanda have? They just hype their capital cities and maybe a few other cities and boom, they are better than Nigeria.

because some Nigerians have access to small good life or are lucky to be born to a prosperous family make them think that is how it is for everyone.

Agreed, we should be doing better in terms of public electricity. That is due to the over centralization of electricity generation, transmission and distribution that was put in place by the military. It did not allow states and individuals to generate and distribute their own electricity. Even with the so call privatisation of the power sector, states and individuals still can't general and distribute their own power. If we were still operating the 1959 regional systems where completion was encouraged, I am certain most regions would have been self sufficient in power.

Ask yourself ,since you where born in this country.Have you experienced one month of steady light?

Just imagine — In just over two decades, Dubai has transformed from a desert backwater port to a thriving metropolis with the third-most skyscrapers in the world. What is Nigeria's excuse? and we have the same crude oil as Dubai if not even more?

Nigeria has never been good ,fact are there from you to see

Nigeria need to get it's independence from these criminals that call themselves politicians

I hate so much negativity being radiated by you guys. Its bring about dark and negative energy and stifles personal and societal development. Learn to "count your blessings and name them one by one "

How can you compare Nigeria to Dubai. What's the historical and political background of dubai and what's that of Nigeria? What's the population of Dubai and what's that of Nigeria? What's the religious and ethnic composition of Dubai and that of Nigeria. You are comparing grapes with grapefruit.

If Nigeria is too big for one man to rule ,the country should divide or go back to reigional government ..if you don't have anything reasonable to say shut up and stop making noise

What ''hope and optimism'' did your illiterate village-stuck grandfather and grandmother have during colonial rule?

Care to tell us?

You sound like one nairalander who manifests all the classical symptoms of schizophrenia.

He was awkward in language and manners when he posted. I can’t remember if he highlighted his bad languages.

It’s either you are trying to copy him or he metamorphosed.

Pls don’t try to be like him. He was a miserable soul when he posted.

He had the moniker ROSSIKKI, Rossimki etc. don’t try to be that man.

If the fool had studied the Singaporean experience, he would have saved him or herself some embarrassment
