Please I need a matured and straightforward advice.

I did my youth service in 2017, started work with one small company like that and was able to build my own house from the job. Now the company has closed due to covid related issues. I applied for a job in one of the new generation bank, i wrote their test and attended interview, later I was asked to go for medicals which i also passed, currently we are just waiting to be call for training, about 40 of us.

During the interview we were all asked if we can work as a marketer of which we all answered in affirmative, that means we can end up working as a marketer which I honestly don't like.

Last month my boss asked me if I can work with a state government and I agreed, and he said I should get ready to resume work by January...I'm at the moment confused and need guidance.

I'm from the north, married with one daughter....

my questions :

1. Does it means the bank will employ us as a marketer just because they ask us during interview if we can work as a marketer?
2. Can I grab the bank job or state government work ... what's more important in the long run

I'd say you should go with the state work. We all know what bank marketing work is about, bank can decide to sack you if you didn't meet your target. There's job security in the state work than the bank job. The state job will also have other allowances apart from your salary,not to even talk of time for yourself in state job, which you can use to start a business. I wish you luck.

1. U have to consider job security while making a choice between the two. Though bank will likely pay u better than State, but u need not to be told that u can be disengaged anytime.

2. State government job comes with job security, and will give u time to engage in other side hustle, unlike the bank job that will most likely take all ur time.

In other words, if I were u, I will go for the government job and plan for other business I can start as a side hustle, in order to boost my income

Bank job more preferred and the pay will be okay but stressful, government job you will have time for other things.

If you have the intention of getting a second stream of income, take the state government job. Banking industry is not always as rosy as it appears. You see marketing department, I consider it a waste of time.

I think you get more flexibility with government jobs.

I’d go with government work, federal preferably.

The current Banking industry in Nigeria doesn’t guarantee job security for its employees

In the bank, working as a marketer gives you the opportunity to build your own social contact and it is one of those job roles that provides opportunity for career growth; though there can be pressure, in so far, you can meet the deposit threshold or target set, you should be up there.

I don’t know the details of the government job. If it’s in the ministry or in a parastatal- consideration would vary. It’s also likely to be less demanding in terms of effort.

Insofar, no alternative till January, you can take the bank job, attend the training and get more insight about your potential job description. By January, you can resign if dissatisfied and go for the other government option.

Since the state government job is until January why not just go with the bank job and stay there until January before switching

State work is my best advice to you.

If you plan to 'gbafuo' from this country later in the future then go for bank job but if you want a fairly sustainable life in Nigeria with monthly alert till you leave this world then go for the government job


The fortunate thing for the government job is that ObiDatti is coming to sanitize the system to make it more efficient and the country as a whole a thing of pride, so if I be you, I will grab the GOVERNMENT JOB with both hands

While it is true that government job offers guarantees the only way you can rise is by kissing ass and calling people "my Oga at the top".

If you're ambitious enough then stay in the private sector cos that's where your hard work is more likely to be rewarded

Depend on individual. Someone like me will prefer state government job reason because I will have time to continue my online business and other offline job.

A state Govt work will give you the time to do other side hustles, unlike a bank job that'd drain your time intoto.
Put simply, go for the state govt job.

Get the state job while you engage in side Hussle. Aside the fact that you can grow in ranks (grade and level) while in the job, there is room for personal development in upgrading yourself unlike the bank job that is private and aimed at milking you dry.
