A leading All Progressives Congress, APC, presidential aspirant, Bola Tinubu, has denied endorsing a Muslim-Muslim ticket. Tinubu said the text message being circulated at the Eagles Square, the venue of APC Special Convention, was false.

He noted that the text messages were the handiwork of shameless, desperate, and misguided individuals.Tinubu’s denial was contained in a statement signed by his Media Office, and posted on his verified Twitter handle.

The message reads: “We have been informed of text messages aimed at APC delegates purportedly from Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, other candidates and party officials making various false claims about Asiwaju and the primary process.

“We have been informed of a text message going around APC delegates at Eagles Square in Abuja purportedly from Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu claiming that with his imminent victory at the APC presidential primary and emergence as the party’s presidential candidate, the APC leader has now decided on a Muslim-Muslim ticket.

This is nothing but a lie, it has no basis whatsoever.We enjoin the distinguished delegates to ignore this completely. The fake text message is a ploy by some undemocratic elements to confuse and hoodwink delegates sensing that Asiwaju àTinubu is comfortably coasting home to victory.

“There is no truth whatsoever in any of these messages. They are lies perpetrated by shameless, desperate and misguided individuals and should be ignored as such.”

Following criticisms that greeted his choice of former governor of Borno State, Senator Kashim Shettima as his running mate, the presidential candidate of All Progressives Congress, APC, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Wednesday, said he had made the hard choice.

In a statement on his verified Twitter handle, the former governor of Lagos State averred that he made the hard choice because he believed it was the best choice.

Recall that some Christians and Muslims have condemned his choice of Shettima, noting that he trampled on ‘democratic balancing’. Yesterday APC Muslim youths rejected his choice of Senator Kashim Shettima as his running mate, advising him to replace the former governor of Borno with a Christian political leader or cleric from the North.

Clearing himself in a statement via Twitter handle, Jagaban opined: “This chapter in our nation’s history demands a bold yet pragmatic approach.“In selecting Senator Shettima I have committed myself to this path. I have made the hard choice because I believe it is the best choice.

“Together, we shall build this party and this nation. This is where politics must end and leadership must begin.

“True leadership is not grounded in religious pandering, populism or sentiment. To forge ahead as a nation towards development and prosperity, we must, instead, break the shackles of old thinking.”
