You no add Journey mercy (Molo layo Mo bo layo) . That is my present concern with the new church i am attending. The service begins with money and ends with money 1. General offering, 2. Vow 3. Development 4. Tithe 5. Seed of blessing 6. Contribution for Men and women of Faith., 7. Contribution for zonal/regional conference. And your Band anniversary contribution. In all of these i have discovered that majority of the attendees have now become passive. as big as the church is with chairs and everything attendance every sunday is nothing to write home about. The only thing helping is the periodic influx of some corp members because they have accomodation for corp member who wish to stay in the church. The country is putting heavy financial burden on her citizen yet churches are pressing them more with heavy financial commitment.. To me once i pay my offering and tithe which i considered important, every other thing become secondary. I don't want to give anything to God out of compulsion

You have done well to give offerings and tithe. God's truths are not an imposition.

O.P, You mixed the law given to the children of Israelites, the Jew!!! To the way of Christianity..

How do you explain that in the new testament, people sold their property, and brought ALL the proceeds to THE FEET of the APOSTLES? Acts 4:32-37. Acts 2:43-47.

Ananias and his wife, Sapphira died when they brought only a part of the total sum of the value of their property that they sold. Some people would have burned down the church if such a thing had happened in this generation...right? Acts 5:1-11.

If paying taxes and footing sundry bills is a sign of being a true and responsible citizen, then giving offerings and tithes in the church is a sign of a committed and responsible child of God.

Those of you who pay tithes/taxes in the name of Jesus Christ deny yourselves sonship with God by your acts of disobedienceundecided
24 Jesus and his followers went to Capernaum. There the men who collect the two-drachma Temple tax came to Peter and asked, “Does your teacher pay the Temple tax?”
25 Peter answered, “Yes, he does.” Peter went into the house where Jesus was. Before Peter could speak, Jesus said to him, “The kings on the earth get different kinds of taxes from people. But who are those who pay the taxes? Are they the king’s children? Or do other people pay the taxes? What do you think?”
26 Peter answered, “The other people pay the taxes.” Jesus said, “Then the children of the king don’t have to pay taxes - Matthew 17 vs 24 - 26
As Jesus Christ made clear, the Children of God do not pay taxes/Tithe in His name. So, do we ignore Jesus Christ so we can instead follow the doctrines and traditions of men(and their churches) instead?

1. OFFERINGS: there are different kinds of offering and different ways a Christian can give an offering. They're as follows;
a. There is the regular weekly offering called the Freewill offering – 1Corinthians 16:1-2.

b. There is the offering raised for a particular cause or project. This can be in form of donations – Acts 11:29-30. Ezra 2:68-69. Exodus 35:5-29.

c. There is another kind of offering - not involving money but solemn verbal oblation, a kind of worship and thanksgiving made by word of mouth. Psalms 119:108.

"What is the church offerings used for"?

...it is used to maintain the church, take care of the widows, orphans and buy equipment and necessary materials used for worship services. Acts 6:1-3. Leviticus 24:2. Numbers 4:9. Exodus 35:5-29.

2. TITHE: a controversial subject but still very much a relevant aspect of the believer's obligations to the divine government of Christ. The tithe is a tenth of the increase (income) of the believer given in the local church where the Christian receives spiritual nourishment.

This command is not imposed on anyone as this teaching can only be received by committed and faithful believers. Malachi 3:10. Matthew 23:23. Hebrew 7:1-25.

*Should my tithe be given to the poor?
No. Your tithe should be given in your local Church. Deuteronomy 12:11.

* Who receive my tithe? ...Your Pastor. Numbers 18:24.

* What is the tithes used for? ...The tithe is used to compensate the Preacher and his assistants, the ushers, the music department and other church workers. Nehemiah 13:5.

3. VOW: A vow is a solemn promise made to the Lord, in the presence of a priest, to perform a particular act of appreciation if the Lord grants an urgent request. It is much like an agreement, a contract whereby God grants a present need and gets a "reward." Ecclesiastes 5:4. 2 Samuel 15:8. Judges 11:30-40.

4. FAITH SEED: As the term implies, this is an act of sowing spiritual seeds – in the form of money or any thing of value, with expectations of a harvest. Psalms 126:5-6.
This seeds can be sown in a person's life – to receive a particular grace one desires in the life of that individual. It can be sown in a Church, workplace, school etc. This is by no means trying to buy spiritual gifts with money, rather it follows the Scriptures that admonishes; "Give, and it shall be given unto you. Good measure..." Therefore, one gives a "seed" in faith expecting GOOD MEASURE. Luke 6:38. Ecclesiastes 11:1 and 6.

5. FIRSTFRUITS: This is the giving of the first of the Christian's harvest (income) or initial profits from a contract or business venture within the year. Nehemiah 10:35.

Now, this subject is also controversial as people – including believers, reason that, "why should they give ALL their income – especially that of "tough" January, to the church, do they want us to starve!? Honestly, I was even more curious than those believers.

However, I did a thorough Biblical research on this subject and found the answer, at last. Firstfruits was first mentioned by Moses, on the instructions of the Lord, in Exodus 23:16-19, but was stated more clearly in Leviticus 23:10, saying; "Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, When ye come into the land which I give unto you, and shall reap the harvest thereof, then ye shall bring A SHEAF of the firstfruits of your harvest unto the priests..."
Notice the phrase A SHEAF (bundle). The SHEAF is a bundle, eg of yams, maize, wheat etc. In this connection, it is therefore obvious and reasonable to declare that the Lord wasn't asking for ALL the first yields of their harvest (income) but a fraction ( a PART) of it. I challenge anybody to prove me wrong – with Scriptures of course.

6. HONORARIUM (PROPHET'S OFFERING) : This is an act of honour given as cash or gifts to a man of God. A Christian is not advised to host or visit a man of God with empty hands. The Bible says that there is a reward for honouring a man of God. Matthew 10:41. 1 Samuel 9:7. 2 Kings 5:3-16.

7. SACRIFICE: This is the act of giving or offering something very dear, or of very high value to God. It can mean that a Christian give away ALL that he has by the inspiration or instruction of The Lord.
This is the highest form of giving by a Christian.
Where did God command one to give his ALL in the Bible?
1. Abraham and Isaac: Genesis 22:2.
2.The rich young man: Luke 18:22-23.
3. Even God gave His ONLY SON: John 3:16.
I usually tell believers that if The Lord demands YOUR ALL, He wants to give you HIS ALL.

***Giving to the poor, however, is and should be a daily work of charity by every believer and shouldn't be seen as something too special, although it is by no means lesser than the aforementioned as the Bible says that those who give to the poor lends to God. Meaning, you make God indebted to you anytime you give to the poor! _ Proverbs 19:17.

Shalom.

There are only 4 kinds of giving

1. Offering (Sacrifice, seed etc comes here)
2. Tithe (different from offering, cos after tithe, you'll still give offering)
3. Honorarium (only when visiting ministers comes and not all the time. It's only when there's special program)
4. First Fruits (once a year and different from 1 to 3 above)

Why r we like this in this country.

When some 'RELIGION' strikes (Naija way), common sense flies out without parachute. U get threats of hell, thunder or head slaughtering.

Ask a hindu or Buddhist questions, any question. And they answer u clean. Yes i have interacted with a few.

Mr. Man you lied about tithe and I can sense you are a pastor.
Most of these new generation pastors are fond of deceiving people with the bible.
Are you preaching the part of bible that favours your selfish desires or what?

Are you trying to say that Deuteronomy 26:12 is wrong...
Deuteronomy 26:12
[12]When you have finished setting aside a tenth of all your produce in the third year, the year of the tithe, you shall give it to the Levite, the foreigner, the fatherless and the widow, so that they may eat in your towns and be satisfied.

Why are our pastors bent of alwys asking for this tithe and still gives nothing or little to the less-priviledged members of the church.

Please, tithe shouldn't be forced on any member, it should be a spiritual thing between you and your God

Or, if the widows or fatherless don't pay, they disgrace them or tell them not to come to their church again that's not welfare house. Many things were happened in Nigeria churches, that is why most of them don't know what to say when be confront about a certain man from the other religion who did debate on Facebook, because they want to tweak bible to suit them.

OP you are trying in every way possible to justify GIVING to enrich the church owners (pastors)
Who owns today's churches=Pastors
Who collect and use church fund for their personal gain =pastors
Today's churches are the family business of the pastors and their families
Stop deceiving blind bats who thinks they are giving their money to God,but to their god of men
Give and show mercy to the poor in the society
Preach and teach from house to house, street to street just as Christ laid the command

Stop deceiving blind bats who thinks they are giving their money to God,but to their god of men
Give and show mercy to the poor in the society
Preach and teach from house to house, street to street just as Christ laid the command

Stay blessed

Please be careful with your generalized statements because some words are so powerful to weaken young minds to fulfilling God's purposes in their lives.

Remember, there are still God's fearing churches with God's fearing servants with standards. God bless you more in Jesus mighty name.

1. OFFERINGS: there are different kinds of offering and different ways a Christian can give an offering. They're as follows;

Shalom.

I'm truly and indeed blessed by your well researched and scripturally backup points. I wept upon my bed with a divine wisdom tapped into by your humble disposition.

I don't know you but God knows you better and this I love to say you are indeed and greatly used by GOD to bless me today. I kept this writeup page opened from November but read it this day gracefully.

You will forever be remembered by God Almighty for this job wel done in Jesus mighty name!

1. Even your money gotten is a product of your efforts and which part of it, is a precious form of sacrifice to build God's agenda for other things to build upon.

2. Remember friend not everyone will work in industries as some are chosen to work in the vineyards of God so also would their needs ought to be met. However, we deny true young givers to learn more in given because of the bad eggs experience. In conclusion, give generously as you can. God bless you all
1. God said you should sell everything you have and give it all away to the poor, how you arrived at that meaning God cares about your money is beyond me. undecided

2. Which some are chosen? Jesus Christ said all those who belong to Him will no longer work for food that perishes but will instead work for food that endures to eternity which only He, Jesus Christ can give - John 6 vs 25 - 35. He made it abundantly that His followers will depend wholly on Him for all their needs and desires - Matthew 6 vs 25 - 34. So, where do you get your "some are chosen to work in the vineyards of God" idea from? And why do you look to those you call "true" young givers to meet your needs? That clearly shows that what you live by has nothing to do with God and His Kingdom. undecided

Please don't get me wrong because I used a word " chosen " I was only referring to workers in the church like pastors, apostles, evangelists, etc.

Ephesians 4:7-12

7 However, he has given each one of us a special gift through the generosity of Christ.
Ephesians 4:7

11 Now these are the gifts Christ gave to the church: the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, and the pastors and teachers.
Ephesians 4:11

12 Their responsibility is to equip God’s people to do his work and build up the church, the body of Christ.
Ephesians 4:12

These set of people should also have their needs met if possible from the supports they get from the church of God.

Carefully read my words again friend, I didn't say give everything you have but " give generously as you can " based on your capability as deemed fit by GOD'S instructions.

2 Corinthians 9:5-8

5 So I thought I should send these brothers ahead of me to make sure the gift you promised is ready. But I want it to be a willing gift, not one given grudgingly.
2 Corinthians 9:5

6 Remember this—a farmer who plants only a few seeds will get a small crop. But the one who plants generously will get a generous crop.
2 Corinthians 9:6

7 You must each decide in your heart how much to give. And don’t give reluctantly or in response to pressure. “For God loves a person who gives cheerfully.”
2 Corinthians 9:7

8 And God will generously provide all you need. Then you will always have everything you need and plenty left over to share with others.
2 Corinthians 9:8

God bless us in Jesus mighty name!

1. According to Jesus Christ, the one who is the Gospel and Law in the Kingdom of God, all of His followers-‐- not just those you conveniently single out in your church groups --- are meant to no longer work for food that perishes. What this means is you are to abandon your jobs, your businesses, your source of livelihoods ik order to become and embrace Jesus Christ - John 6 vs 25 - 35. That is what Jesus Christ said of His followers, and we read of the disciples doing exactly that in order to follow Jesus Christ. undecided

2. Those people you describe, who have their needs met in a way different from that prescribed by God, are not of God. They depend on their churches whereas God called His followers to depend wholly on Him. Note the difference?, undecided

3. Jesus Christ said you are to sell everything you have and give the proceeds all away to the poor if you want to have treasure that is Heaven. Jesus Christ also said the more you gjve away what you have to those who are poor, the more you receive treasure in Heaven from God Himself. The Kingdom of God does not function according to the doctrines and traditions of your churches. So you need to decide whether you will believe as Jesus Christ commands or whether you will chose the interpretations fed you by men who pretend to be sent to you by God. undecided
