My 2 principles for now

Don’t let anyone squat with u….the last one I allowed is a drug abuser n he always soak all my cups with drugs n to add insult upon injury he can straff anything in skirt,it got so bad that he started bringing secondary school girls home anytime I wasn’t. It is not always as clear-cut as that, but generally, one has to be careful.

If you have young children, including a girl, and you don't have a room that is in another section of the house/compound, then consider putting your guest in a hotel (if you can afford it).

I generally would hesitate to accommodate a non-family member. I would lodge them in a hotel. Even if I have a family member staying the night )(except parents), I usually sleep with one eye open, literally. Anything more than a night or two is overstaying a welcome.

The whole thing is just not worth it.

It is not proper to present your experience as a format for everyone to adopt. You may have had a harrowing experience with siblings who stayed with you after your marriage but that may not be the experience of others.

It would have been more helpful if the writer gives reasons why couples are not advised to accommodate siblings after marriage than to make a blanket pronouncement not to accommodate anyone.

This is one dimensional thinking whereas life comes in different dimensions.
Life plays different balls with each person.

See, accommodation issues are not things that fly from heaven. I still find it difficult to conceive of a scenario where accommodation problem will just happen unplanned. Its just like naming ceremony - they are things you will have time to prepare for and not just rush to live with someone.

Anyways, I pray we do not have accommodation problems and those who do, I pray they find comfort. Like the OP, I find it difficult to let someone into my space.
