How does a wall gecko "seize" sleep? I have a feeling you're talking about sleep paralysis. If so, read about it. It has nothing to do with geckos or anything extraordinary.

I read sometimes that while on the throes of death, they do discharge poisonous substance as a means of defence.

So, a Gecko in a pot of soup or one that fell inside a bucket of drinking water could be lethal if such food or water is ingested.

I remember growing up, anywhere my Grandma sees it, she must kill it. When we ask her why, she said they do scratch people with their claws while sleeping and leaving dark long marks on people's body.

If a dead wall gecko was found inside the pot of soup,it means it must have entered after they were dead after eating not before.
It's also unlikely that food poisoning would kill all 6 family members at the same period because they have different immune abilities and one or 2 must have survived enough to rush to neighbours or cry out to ask for help.
It's quite difficult to know the true cause of death here,without more credible information from well informed and knowledgeable people,not some phantom believing villager or illiterate.
