Abiola pleaded with the IBOs they refused. That was why Tofa picked his running mate from Abia. That memory is very painful.

After Jos SDP Convention where Abiola won when Atiku and Kingibe stepped down from run-off election. Abiola choose Kingibe as his running mate for the honour given to him. Just like Ohaneze Ndigbo released statement few hours after June 8, 2023 APC convention denigrating and blackmailing Tinubu, Arthur Nzeribe, a SDP Presidential Aspirant who lost woefully released statement condemning the exercise and almost wept.

Abiola offered the IBOs the Secretary to FGN post, they rejected. They said (Ojukwu & some elders) Secretary is a man that serves his boss TEA in the office. In the midst of that rejection, the NORTH wondered what the IBOs wanted Abiola to do. As at this period, the Senate President is from Benue (Ayu), Speaker is an IBO. Because of that TOFA picked an IBO as his running mate. The NORTHERN ELITES know the IBOs wanted the VP & Speaker while Yorubas get nothing. It has happened before but Yorubas don't mind . That was the beginning of the problem. Abiola lost Rivers controlled and dominated by the IBOs before Bayelsa was created.

Ezeife the Anambra governor because of Anenih managed to deliver Anambra (almost 52% SDP and 48% NRC) Most of the SDP votes came from Abakaliki area and the present Ebonyi State. Another result gave (42% NRC, 58% SDP). Most of those Anambra votes were from the present Ebonyi State area. The original final result has been manipulated for political reasons. I believed the first result.

The same tension was carried to late 1998 under PDP. The battle between Obasanjo and Ekwueme for PDP ticket was enormous. The same attack and blackmail Tinubu is receiving is what Obasanjo received. Obasanjo saving grace was the absence of Social media. Mallam Hakeem Baba Ahmed was the Executive Secretary of INEC while Nasir El Rufai was a key member (strategist) of Presidential Advisory Council to Head of State. Indirectly, they were on the side of Obasanjo.
