I read a few of your posts on this thread and you made some salient points.
Nigeria has a long way to go and both the leaders and the followers are not helping matters. Actually I don't know who's worse. We so influenced by our ethnic and selfish bias. While I've always known all politicians to be the same, the ones in Nigeria are outliners and the problems in Nigeria are multidimensional. Worse is the fact that everyone rant on social media while in reality they're doing nothing but looking for opportunities to have a piece of the pie. No one is bold enough to ask questions or tell the truth on a one on one encounter. I don't discuss these kind of issues on this platform, because it doesn't alleviate the problems and even many that complain are not interested in making a positive impact. Any dick and harry can reel out stats, most of which is inaccurate. Wining an online argument on which country is better doesn't make the lives of either citizens better. The pursuit of money is an endless one and income inequality will continue to be wider irrespective of the country.
I'm brute in asking anyone what value have you added to your society? What have you done for humanity? All in all, many believe the human race is a mystery but that a different topic.

Having lived in both continents and sojourned all but 2 states, I know the human race is on a downward trajectory.

I’m not arguing that remittances are not a relatively minor percentage of GDP. I am saying that they are a large albeit stable portion of forex inflows and therefore fluctuations in their volume will have a disproportionate impact on everything including GDP in an economy that is largely import dependent. They are not a major catalyst in the economy today because volumes have not fluctuated widely like oil prices which we all recognize as having a large impact. On the flip side, changes in price and export volumes of oil which is the other major earner of forex wreaks havoc on our economy. Remittances have not changed that much (down about 5 to 10 billion since 2019) so it’s actually making for a stabilizing effect while oil goes all over the place. If per chance we double the amount of remittances, there is no doubt it will have a positive effect on our exchange rate and our GDP in real terms. The opposite will also be true. You quote GDP numbers but have you noticed that GDP has declined more than 20% in real terms although growing in Naira terms since 2014. This is in direct correlation to current account accruals and decline in exchange rate which is impacted directly by inflows.
ok. We are practically saying the same thing then. Good morning.

I believe the Asians have over time positioned themselves better and hence tend to do better as they also have a much stronger support system

This your comment, I love it so much. I wanted to show you something.

These are two neighborhoods in different SMALL TOWNS in North Carolina. Remember, small towns. I've visited homes there a lot. These neighborhoods are upper middle class. These towns are like Auchi or Ikot-Ekpene in Nigerian terms.

Literally DOZENS of Nigerian medical doctors live in these neighborhoods including SEVERAL double physician couples. One of the areas is even known among Nigerians as Doctor's Quarters. You can pull up the real estate county records and see.

One thing you notice in those places are a good racial mix....Whites, Blacks, Asians. I know a few from each group.

Virtually all the Nigerians that live in these places are medical doctors.

Some of the Asians that live there are medical doctors, but the majority - especially the Chinese - are small business owners - hair and nail salons, restaurants, carpet/floor businesses, grocery stores and the like. Remember, virtually all these Chinese didn't grow up speaking English and probably speak the language very inadequately.

This is an illustration of the characteristics of Nigerian wealth in the USA. Compared to the Asians, we are weak, non-competitive and very risk averse. Not criticism, just fact.

Have a good week.

I don't actually care about any country. Different strokes for different folks. I already left my footprints on the American soil and can criticize as much as I want. What I care about is what are you doing presently on a personal level? It's not enough to keep making noise online, what have you accomplished? Tell us what we can do.

How can you contribute to a failed project! what has the disastrous APC regime done to make it worthwhile to sacrifice for the contraption! The presidency under this current regime is pursuing a very narrow ethnic and religious agenda....all the while killing and maiming so called fellow citizens! I wonder what America would have been like if the Irish catholics or the Ashekenazi jews ascend to power..........take over all strategic security posts, intimidate the judiciary, corrupt the legislature and proceed to murder and pillage other ethnic and racial groups in America? The problem is that many Nigerians are in denial of what ails that potentially great nation! We are in a serious mess and the outrage that people like you should be expressing is simply nonexistent..............you should be screaming blue murder! We are just too docile and it sucks.........we as a people do not notice it but other groups think we are simply an unpricipled bunch...feckless and vacuous beyond imagination!
This is the reason african Americans believe that continental Africans especially Nigerians are adept at "coonery", i cannot agree more........we just love our oppressors so much!

So someone can be lonely in this canada, well I am not lonely o.

I enjoy life to the best.

@OP. talk to people, go out, if ALL your colleagues at work are not friendly or speaking with you, CHECK yourself.

You must be an annoying person. Maybe the loneliness don cut wire for your hypothalamus
and dm dy see say you dy behave somehow.
Moved to Canada few months ago, already have a gossip partner at work, I taught everyone at work how to pronounce my name properly, told them what my name means. My female boss, I dy help am carry her heavy bag if we jam at the car pack in the morning. They gossip me, I gossip them with sense.

When I get home, I gist with my spouse about work and stuff. Next week I am attending a birthday party...i hope I won't commit, na unattached MILFs go full there, make person dy careful, HPB. plenty for this canada.

Concerning savings, don't save in KOLO, open a wealthsimple account. Put your cash in TFSA.. don't over spend, you get 7-10% yearly.

Do instacart, doordash instead of doing overtime at work. You will meet a lot of people in stores and during delivery. These jobs are not only for hustlers. You will know a lot of places around town when you do deliveries.

Enjoy yourself mate...If you have experienced unknown gunmen and escape from herdsmen, you will gum your ass in canada.

I don't miss naija and I will never do.

I know say u go stubborn well-well, i mean u go b Ajepako!
I can't wait to be in Canada in the next few months by God's Almighty grace.

Quite a good observation. Most Nigerian immigrants tend to think that the shortest cut to American ‘dream’ is by acquiring advanced health degree( nothing wrong with that) and this is a linear and narrower approach… but Asians and Hispanics tend to have multi-dimensional approach.. go to school or start a business or do both. I once met an Indian doctor who went trucking school to get a CDL so that he could tailor medical service to truck drivers and medium-sized freight companies. Most Nigerians I know would be OK with their medical degree and pay.. Part of being OK and risk averse. And also, a Naija medical doctor would be offended to be called a truck driver.. lol. Look at your chatrooms.. most people having suffix ‘Dr’ in the official name lol.

Truth is, you lack common sense.

I left Nigeria for Poland last 2 years with my wife immediately we got married and it was one of the best decisions we made. In so many ways, Poland is less better than Canada

Some of you are so fortunate that you complain about what others pray for. Remember someone is praying to have 1/10 of what you have right now.

You probably have the means to live your best life in Nigeria and find living in Canada hell.

I was earning 82K in Abuja after deduction, how would anyone survive on that with a wife and incoming babies?

A month after arriving in Poland I got a work from home job, that catered for me and my wife all through the pandemic and because I pay tax, my wife was listed under me as a dependent and all antenatal visits were free, tests conducted was free, delivery of the baby was also free including anaesthesia that was given when she went into labour all free. Infact she got the best care, way better than the best in Nigeria.

After delivery a Midwife called to inform us that she will be responsible for my wife's care till 6 months after delivery. For those 6 months, she visited the house every 2 weeks to check up on my wife and the baby and if she detected any issue, we were given referrals to consult a pediatrician or Gynaecologist. Till today, we don't pay for Healthcare except maybe one or two drugs that we maybe required to get on our own.

Aside the Healthcare which is better than the best we have in Nigeria, the government pays us an equivalent of 70K naira monthly to take care of our baby till he is 18 years and at the end of the year, we still file for tax refunds.

Our baby is currently enrolled in a daycare that is free of charge and we leave him there from 7AM-4PM so we can have some time to work and rest when need be.

Please please please, it is rosy for you does not mean it is like that for everyone. We are happy we moved.

That guy has an issue.

You people are funny.

You can immigrate to the UK or US today and still not be able to access their medical facilities tomorrow if you have a heart attack due to cost and absent of health insurance.

You people don't understand Jack. Na person wey never travel or never mingled with people who were born and raised overseas japa dey freak.

Lemme burst your head small. Your kids have a higher chance of attending university if remain in Nigeria than if you japa to US or UK.

You still don't get it. And stop drifting away from reality. Even Buhari will likely die if he should have a heart attack! Can the National Hospital handle it? No!

Same thing my friend in Canada told me
He said loneliness wan kill am for there no body get time for anybody there is no social life as such.

The good thing is most people outside NIGERIA are not actually saying the truth

And the few ones who try to speak the truth get attacked by Nigerians back home

Everybody's reality is different. If you live in Lagos and suddenly find yourself living somewhere in Gombe state, would life be the same for you? It's not about Canada, it's a function of where you are.

I live in the same Canada but I'm enjoying my life. I attend a Nigerian church Redeem, I belong to an association of Nigerians in the city. I attended countless number of parties, occassions, barbecues etc hosted by Nigerians this year. It has been all fun this year especially after covid disruptions. The naija community here is bubbling, no dull moment

If your friend lives in multi cultural areas where you have lots of Nigerians, I don't see how one can be lonely except the person wants to be lonely cos there are too many events that becomes difficult to keep up with.

If your friend lives in an area where he is the only black man, then it's wise to relocate to other areas. Even in Canada, people do move from one area to another, one city to another and even one province to another. Govt no use chain tie anybody yansh for one place.

Far better? I doubt. Also, I have a good number of black colleagues here which makes it more bearable. Hong Kong was under Britain until 1997, till date, there are lots of Brits still here.

Yes, a huge chunk of Canadian immigrants return home. I've met few Nigerian Canadians that left Canada. One just could not stomach the thought of waiting for her citizenship.

She got only PR, and ran off. Na woman sha. So she needs to be in a place where men will be toasting her, and Canada is literally dead in that angle.

The men there are so sissy. I just feel like catch one and beat am for no reason. How can you be so tamed? And you're a man? So scared to talk to a woman. The dating scene there is so bad.

If you don't have tinder to satisfy your romantic void, you can go for years without even going for a date. And even the tinder, na narcissistic psychos full am.

Transgenders, gays, fork boys, etc. It's a giant shit festival. If you want to enjoy life and money is not your problem, avoid Canada. US still good, or even Mexico.

But to Nigerians, migration is always to western countries, in such a vast, rich, beautiful world.

Most Nigerians running to Canada don't know what's waiting for them there cos the place is so boring

Yep, but compare to Nigeria, Canada is better. I mean, it's a world apart, you cant compare. But comparing Canada to other western countries, Canada is not the best. I will rather live in a tropical 2nd world country like Brazil, South Africa, and even China than live in Canada. But well, different strokes for different folks.
