Maybe for those that use it as a means of transportation. Same can't be said to those that use it as leisure or for sports. Besides, I heard some bicycles are more expensive than some average cars.
Check the price out 34k, na motor price be that for Brazil, infact with 18k you go see better car buy, grin

I have three bikes. They stole one during summer in Belgium. I enter KFC to go chop chicken, locked my bike outside and as I eat finish, my bike don lost. The thief probably carried it, because you can't ride it since it's locked. I almost cried because they stole the expensive one (an electric bike). If not for the insurance I had on the bicycle, I probably would have run mad.

In Africa, we see bicycle riding as a poor man thing, but in the Western world, it is different. For example, the Netherlands has a wonderful bike-riding culture.

I don't have a bicycle yet, but I am going to buy one. I had to check out the prices; it is good for one's health and if I want to get something from the supermarket, I can just ride instead of walking. Brazilians have a strong bicycle riding culture as well with bike lanes. Both the rich and the poor ride bicycles here. Do you have a bicycle abroad?

Bikes are ubiquitous in Japanese cities. Boys, girls, men and women ride them to work, schools, shops and literally anywhere you can think of if the distance is close-by. Almost every house and apartment has at least one bicycle parked in it. It's cheaper as the cost of maintaining a car here is pretty high. So, it's a normal thing. I didn't buy because the economics wasn't worth it for me. If I buy it, I doubt I'll ride it more than five times a week.

Apart from Nigeria's lawlessness and poor infrastructure, the major reason bike riding isn't popular in the country is the weather. For instance, in the Singapore, the government has introduced several schemes and built infrastructure for bike riding yet it is not as popular as other countries because it has a tropical weather. Also, to an extent, drivers in Singapore are rougher than Japan. I'm yet to witness an accident here and bicycle have the right of way before a car/truck. Meanwhile, na every day I dey read say person die while riding a bicycle in Singapore.

It is the culture. The culture promotes being disciplined at all times. Also, I read on Twitter from a Japanese academic who attributed part of the discipline to the history of being an isolated island in an earthquake-prone region. So, the culture had to evolve to accommodate such. Most importantly, the culture works perfectly because it is largely homogenous. So, you expect everyone to behave just like you without coercion or unnecessary complaints.

For example, the Netherlands has a wonderful bike-riding culture..

If u own one here in Nigeria for sports n exercise

Ontop which road u wan dey ride am
U wake up early, boiz kpokpo u 4 road
Street light no dey to help u see road early mormor sef.
U ride, enter mad traffic at 6.30am, u go waka carry am for head reach house coz trekkers in naija now sef dey hook for traffic
U manage reach house, still late go work.
Reckless car drivers wey no sabi traffic rules - u get 5 legs abi.

Nothing works here. Na why we dey strive outside naija
You are right. It is very dangerous, especially in Lagos traffic. But in a city like Ibadan the idea is quite workable. A friend's 9 year old daughter is an aspiring bicyclist and she rides long distances around the city, alone atimes.

You fail to mention hit and run vehicles, case in point Mudashiru's son.

You also fail to mention Mabogunje robbed and stabbed to death by hoodlums while riding his bike.

Most Nigerians reason like goats. Whenever they see someone riding a bicycle they either call you a poor man or they say you're behaving like a child.

I can't wait to leave this pathetic country, most Nigerians are so annoying.
Why bother about their reasoning?

Stay above that.

There was a tracket on it, but that's up to the insurance companies and law enforcement agency to recover it.

Bike is considered poverty in Nigeria
That's because we abuse it here. Same person go use am go work, use am go church, use am go party, use am go brothel sef . If you use it for recreation and running simple errands no body will call you poor .

It's called poverty of the mind. Most Nigerians suffer from it. Nigerians are flashy people by nature. No nationality packages themselves like NIgerians. Being simple is a crime. It's why guys who have lived abroad for too long find it hard to adjust living in Nigeria due to the mindset of the people. In most advanced cities, riding bicycles is actively encouraged in order to reduce pollution. Many people who work at the City of London ride bicycles to work especially during the summer. The same in New York, Amsterdam, Cambridge and other cities. The mindset of a lot of Nigerians leaves much to be desired.
