Toyotas aren't known for prestige or aesthetics, they're known for being economical and reliable with low maintenance, so at least you get 2/4 requirements ticked

I'd go with the Camry

Buy your camry in peace .
Your first car should be a car that an average mechanic will understand inside out and won't cheat you.

Go to express, count 100 cars coming ,the most common ones among your choices is the one you go for .

my budget is 4.5M
the choices I am looking at are these :

1. Toyota Rav 4, (2011) Nigerian used. A friend is actually convinced this is the car I should buy as it fits nicely in terms of prestige and functionality. However, I'm not fully convinced as per buying a Nigerian used car and also because I'm not really taken to the RAV4 as I see it as not a masculine car.

2. Toyota Camry 2011 or 2012 (muscle) : I like this car and if it falls within my budget I'd happily buy it. The only negative here is I've been wanting an SUV to be my first car considering Lagos roads etc so I'm not totally sold on the idea of getting this car.

3. Toyota Highlander full option (2007) Direct Belgium or Nigerian used: Now this is the car I I'm most taken to. However, Friends are of the opinion that it is an old car (being 2007) and is gradually being phased out. Also the fact the car does not exactly convey much in terms of prestige etc.

So that's it. I'd appreciate if forum members advice correctly on any of these three car models or recommend something else. Kindly highlight the merits/demerits of buying the foreign used or Nigerian used version of any car you'd recommend.

The attributes I'm looking out for are Functionality, ease of Maintenance, prestige/aesthetics of the car.

I appreciate you all.

Why not buy Lexus Es350 2008 model

It’s ur first car .. what I think you should watch out for it’s durability and maintenance. For a start I ll recommend you buy the camry belgium and jack base up .

I believe you are looking at the wrong cars. If you want prestige, you are looking at the wrong cars o. Kindly pitch your tent with Lexus or Mercedes Benz. Also, ease of maintenance is not part of the benchmark of some luxury cars.

From your options go for Toyota Camry 2012

But outside that I'd recommend Toyota Corolla 2014/2015.

You're welcome!!!

Do your research and look for a reputable car dealer who deals in cars. Get yourself a clean few months used 2012 Toyota camry sport version and thank me later. Don't go for any lexus, benz or BMW else you will regret your life. As for the Rav4, the only model I can advise you to buy that can suits a your lad is 2014 model upwards and you don't have the money. Lastly if you can top up the money to 5m then I will gladly advice you to go for Toyota venza V4 engine. It's way better than the camry but both cars are fuel economical, cheap maintenance and not one single fault to worry about. I have both cars. Although my Venza is v6 but the v4 of is even preferable than v6.

Run away from Benz and Lexus. Both will send you to your village bro.

Whatever you do, don't buy a nigerian used car except you know the owner very well. Since this would be your first car and considering your budget, I would suggest you go for a more recent Camry as it is very durable and cheap to maintain. Get someone you trust in the US or Canada to bid for you in a car auction and it's gonna save you 500k to 1m naira

Toyota everywhere. they have tricked you to thinking toyota is the best meanwhile toyota is just a car almost every mechanic can handle. so it’s left for you to decide, are you buying a car because you need to reach a mechanic easily or you are buying a car for your own needs?

Good day with my little experience about cars I will advice you to buy a 4cylinder car, possibly a Toyota Corolla or Toyota Highlander Belgium.
As a beginner Nigerian use should be a no go area because you have no experience about cars and you might fall prey to monsters
As a beginner forget about prestige also because when the car start developing fault prestige won't be there anymore
My little advice enjoy your day

It all depends on what you want to use it for... For work like bolt - Corolla...
Office day to day - Lexus/ Corolla
Big boy shows- Benz, Beemaa Lexus big one
Rugged work- Rav, Hilux, Any strong high jeep
Travelling/Transport - Sienna
I just want a car - Camry

Then u also decide your fuel consumption power...

You also decide if you like speeding, like quick pick 0-100km in 3 sec

If you will be carrying plenty kaya (load)

Just know what you want before deciding or else, you will buy wetin go carry you go where u no know (mechanic)...

Some of you think German cars are cars. Fine, they are fast but not luxurious except the recent makes which Op can't afford. Make he go buy c300 of 2008 abi? When he easily 2012-2013 neat camry. C300 is dirty and dead car! That's the only car 4.5 can afford in Benz. Another set of useless cars are 2008-2012 is250, 2005-2009 rx350 and 2007-2011 es350.

Look man whatever you do pls don’t buy a Nigerian used car ,make sure to buy Tokunbo cars for a start you shouldn’t really be looking into luxury cars ,you need strong and efficient for a start ,economy friendly fuel consumption as well.

Why not just go for a Toyota muscle or Corolla 08 these cars would stand out and u would enjoy them for long ,plus their parts and maintenance and very affordable. My 2 cents

I’m an Honda fan so I’d advice you for the tokunbo of the Honda Civic 2012 model. Change go still remain from the 4.5.
Or you go for the naija used 2013/14 Honda Accord. Change no suppose remain.
These cars are easy to maintain and also command some prestige.

I would have advised VW Jetta 2013, but maintenance might be an issue esp for a first time owner.
