patwilly: I enjoin all forum members to actively contribute my budget is 4.5M the choices I am looking at are these :
1. Toyota Rav 4, (2011) Nigerian used. A friend is actually convinced this is the car I should buy as it fits nicely in terms of prestige and functionality. However, I'm not fully convinced as per buying a Nigerian used car and also because I'm not really taken to the RAV4 as I see it as not a masculine car.
2. Toyota Camry 2011 or 2012 (muscle) : I like this car and if it falls within my budget I'd happily buy it. The only negative here is I've been wanting an SUV to be my first car considering Lagos roads etc so I'm not totally sold on the idea of getting this car.
3. Toyota Highlander full option (2007) Direct Belgium or Nigerian used: Now this is the car I I'm most taken to. However, Friends are of the opinion that it is an old car (being 2007) and is gradually being phased out. Also the fact the car does not exactly convey much in terms of prestige etc.
So that's it. I'd appreciate if forum members advice correctly on any of these three car models or recommend something else. Kindly highlight the merits/demerits of buying the foreign used or Nigerian used version of any car you'd recommend.
The attributes I'm looking out for are Functionality, ease of Maintenance, prestige/aesthetics of the car.
I appreciate you all. Don't buy Nigerian used car. Get a car from the USA check auction export. I can help you |

Pls quickly forget about SUVs except u just must have the SUV status or your usual route has very bad roads. SUVs are quite expensive to maintain whenever they breakdown. Of course shocks and all will still get spoilt though at a slower rate than sedans. At d end of d day d money u spend on leg maintenance say in a yr is almost same if not more with SUVs. Consider also engine repairs, fuel consumption too. Muscle camry is gud... Well used 2013 camry can also be gotten for that price. (Personally) that's preferable. And it is higher(ground clearance) than d muscle. patwilly: I enjoin all forum members to actively contribute my budget is 4.5M the choices I am looking at are these :

I would have advised VW Jetta 2013, but maintenance might be an issue esp for a first time owner. my honda civic Japanese model I bought toks at 3.1m last month. So I don't think change will remain if he buy 2012 civic 1 Like |

Get yourself a 2010 ML 500 Mercedes V8... Ask a mechanic cost of parts vs that of a Toyota and Lexus b4 coming here to shout expensive ... for example the engine and transmission cost ...
Or..
If you're hell bent on a Japanese suv, forget the rav4 and get a clean Lexus RX 350...
Forget naija or foreign used.. As long as the car is well maintained and had good educated previous owners, not thise that managed the car, you would be fine with a Nigerian used car ... I have gotten a tok and still had gear issues within 3 months owning and I have gotten a Nigerian used that lasted over 3 years b4 I sold it off 1 Like |

nice thread me too have been considering the highlander for a first car and because of ground clearance. the bad roads and constant commuting and traffic would mean I need an engine that would hold out more power like a v6 and the highlander does it for me. all that talk about aesthetics and outward appearance does not move me because I believe it still fits despite being an 07 vehicle. as for sedans, hell to the no. driven too many people's cars here to know that nigerian roads are not built for them |

I was in the market to purchase a car recently with a budget of N4.5m and from 2012 upwards. Bought Toyota corrola 2010 toks last year as my first car. Didnt check well though as it had terrible underbelly rust and had to sell in last month as car was out structurally. I also considered the Venza but couldnt get a 2009-2011 toks or Naija used at N4.5m. Saw a toks 2011honda crosstour for N4.8m but considered the resale value. Eventually settled for a very clean Naija used Toyota Camry 2014.5L for N4.7m with very low mileage simply because I know the owner. Its quite big and rides like an SUV with good ground clearance. Have 225/55r17 on mine currently and I'll replace with 215/60r17 later on. Toyotas are more reliable, simple to fix with good resale value. You can get a very good deal on a well maintained Naija used from guys travelling out. As for toks, watch out well as alot of them have high mileage and car dealers would have reduced it. I will also advise you get a car not more 10 years old. Just my 2 cents |

I appreciate you all. With a budget of 4.5 million, you are not prestigious, and shouldn't be concerned about prestige. It is your life though, stop living for what people will say or think.. Whatever you buy, don't buy a Nigerian used vehicle. I know you came here to make us tell you to buy the Rav4. You are looking for validation, just like your prestige assertions. It is your life, and you will bear the brunts, sadly, you go still come worry us how your car is stopping at your inlaws gate. Lastly, do not buy a vehicle without inspection. There is the assumption that Belgium vehicles don't have problems. You are only buying abroad problems. Make sure they are not major. If all the budget for car is 4.5 million. Get a vehicle for 4 million, use 500k for general repairs. So many use their last card to buy cars, forgetting they need to fix the suspension, change tyres, change the fluids, register the vehicle, get insurance. They are suddenly faced with reality and return broke. BTW, congratulations. Hope you've tied more investments to what's made you raise 4.5m.... Invest in your business. I Don try. Depends o. Are u a new driver or is u already have previous driving experience? For new drivers I recommend Big daddy, muscle or Corolla Sport etc due to it being less expensive to maintain and as per new drivers they will surely brush or disfigure it driving in Lagos, na normal thing.
Let’s say u have prior experience but want an SUV for first car don’t buy Naija used, with 4.5 u can get an Acura MDX 07-09 (second Gen best years according to reviews). But if u plan to sell and top cash for replacement buy a well inspected used Lexus 330 2005/2006 not lesser not more. Acura MDX does not hold value like Lexus/Toyotas etc. Trust me I just got an Acura and I spent weeks on research deciding between 330 n MDX. I got mine Nigerian used. Acura MDX 2008 well maintained n besides routine change of brake pads, steering rack leakage (due to a broken hose), replaced fog light bulb, servicing, gear oil and new tires then alignment it’s running perfectly. When I inspected with my Kazeem, he was like pay for this car let’s go it’s a steal! Fuel consumption is normal for an SUV surprisingly. I fueled 5k at N250 per litre and I used on Christmas Eve to run all my errands, plus over 50 miles later on with AC on before I topped. My place to Abk should be roughly 50 miles so yeah it’s reasonable to me. 3 Likes |
