In Islam, an adult woman can marry whoever she pleases. What is needed are witnesses to make the marriage valid.
So the write up didn't mention the age of the girl/woman.
You can't ignore your responsibilities to your child and expect to be carried along when she is getting married!

If the woman in question does not care whether the father/mother is present or not, why is the parent that is present for the ceremony to blame for it? Why do you approach this as if the girl was somehow sold off into slavery without the other parent's consent?

Hw did you know he was absent all through her life, the post only said they were divorced awhile ago? I wouldn't want to sound like i'm supporting the man but what is wrong is wrong.
Did you also read that he was involved, the first time he refused that they should pray about it first before she was married on the second attempt without his involvement.

Divorce is never a good thing, these are issues that comes with divorce, bitterness, unforgivingness, hatred even when children are involved.
i know what we went through when something like this but slightly different when a relative was getting married. let me not say more.

this is Africa and we are talking abt traditional marriage here, ladies do not marry themselves off, they don't collect their own bride price, the parents do, its different from choice of who to marry.

Many of those kids whose fathers abandoned them in childhood grew up and got married without the sperm donor being present at their ceremony.
