Hi guys,

I took my computer based test on Saturday Dec 10, got my results today.

I paid a week before the test because a school demanded the result after giving me admission, so I had one week to prepare. I did what I usually do when I need information urgently, visit Nairaland cheesy

I saw some links to prepare here but I focused on the study materials on the British IELTS site for TEST TAKERS, I did all the practice and test for 3 days, then I paid $5 on ieltsbuddy website and I practised the listening and reading tests only.

I also watched some youtube videos esps IELTS Liz cos she was mentioned on this thread. At the end, I couldn't prepare much because I work from 8am to 9pm daily and I get home tired.

I aced it on my first try. But I have to say that I am pretty good at using words and I have a blog so English doesn't scare me. I had issues with the speaking test because I am an introvert and talking for like 20 minutes non-stop was too much for me, but thankfully, I passed that too.

If anyone needs any help, I am here. And I appreciate everyone that dropped tips on this thread cos I saw what to expect and I realize that following the rules and reading instructions goes a long way.

Congratulations, I am quite encouraged by your confidence, I am writing on the 14th of January 2023. Any further tips?

Good day all. Please, I heard of another English proficiency test called EF SET (kinda free online exam). Can it serve the same purpose as IELTS?
Is EF SET recognized in UK & US?

I finally got feedback from british council concerning my remark request for my IELTS academic writing test. My score increased from band 6 to 7. The Nigerian accessors at IELTS british council need to do better. My EOR was needlessly delayed for almost a month and released on the 4th of January, since 7th December, 2022, even after multiple emails and phone calls complaining about the delay. The sad part is that the attached letter from the feedback was backdated to 16th December, 2022. Making it seem like they remarked my tests and sent me the letter on 16th December, 2022. Now I have missed several priority schools application deadlines, due to their lacklustre attitude.
benergy:
I requested for a remark for my IELTS academic writing test since December 7th, however, nothing has been done till now. I am worried because of my application deadlines which I have to beat on Jan 1st. British council should do better with paper based test remarking. I know they said wait between 2-21 days for response. But hey, it's awfully too slow and takes too long.

Can you please share the links you got here

I did not pick links here, but i noticed the popular ones and went to do my research. I studied with Road to IELTS on the British Council website, www.ieltsbuddy.com (I paid $5 to practice listening and writing), I listened to some IeltsLiz videos on youtube too. And I searched IELTS BAND 8 OR 9 on Youtube and watched a couple of videos. I couldn't do much because I had just 1 week to study.

You will pass. Just relax and wear comfortable clothes and shoes.

Tips:
READ ALL INSTRUCTIONS ON THE TEST CAREFULLY BEFORE YOU START. IF YOU SEE 'ONE WORD ONLY' Do not write 2 or more words.

--- WRITING:

Double check for spelling errors after each part.
Do the part 2 first.
Don't write big words that you are not sure of the spellings or meaning.
--------

--- LISTENING:

Clear your head and your heart of any roaming thoughts. FOCUS.
Listen to the recording as if you are listening to a real life conversation, you can't miss any word.
Don't listen to respond, listen to understand. Listen to catch each word and number mentioned.
Listen to corrections made by the speakers as they speak.
--------

READING:

Make sure your spellings are correct when answering questions.
If possible, copy the answers from the passage if you are not sure of spellings.
Read between the lines, some answers are not in plain sight.
Don't waste time.
-----------

---> FOR SPEAKING TEST

Tell yourself that it is not an INTERVIEW or EXAM.
Pretend that the examiner asking you questions is a friend you just met in your new school or your new location abroad.
Relax and answer questions like you are having a conversation with someone you just met.
NOTE that there are no right or wrong answers when the conversation starts to feel like an argument. Smile and state your opinion without thinking you are right or wrong.
Speak up because you will not be told that your voice is low, but it will affect your score.

Remember it is not a test of who can speak the most bogus grammar, but who can carry on a conversation with minimum error, nuance, and with fluidity. Keep talking until the examiner stops you each time. When you feel like you don't know the answer, ask her/him to explain further. Don't feel bad when you feel you haven't answered a question correctly, it is not an INTERVIEW, remember. Just talk and flow with the examiner (like you would with a new friend)
---------

Don't Fret, it's not a rigid exam, just a test of how comfortable you are with the language.
Go with a clear/transparent bottle of water (remove the label)
Go with your face mask
Eat before going if possible
If your Writing and Speaking tests are on the same day, make sure you eat because you will get tired. (One of the guys there gave me jollof rice while I was waiting for my speaking test because I was almost fainting from hunger)
Go with a pen, pencil, and eraser.

Best of luck.

Please can you post the link of the thread where you got useful tips from?

Derby offered me admission but they are requesting for IELTS. Their reason is that the DOB on my WAEC certificate is wrong and they won't accept affidavit. So, i sent them my NECO. I don't know if they will accept it though.

But meanwhile, i want to start getting prepped for the IELTS exam because i don't want to loose the offer.

You can register online with one of two organizations, namely British Council (https://ieltsregistration.britishcouncil.org/)
Or IDP/MOD (ielts.ng) you will find list of centers available there including centers in Benin city and you can make your choice.

It's been two months since I wrote and my centre was Port Harcourt.
