I have been pondering our catch-22 debt problem lately. What stops Nigeria from going the way of Ghana? Realistically, without debt restructuring, debt default or debt forgiveness (the three Ds), how do we escape this trap long term? Most of our revenue is used to service debt cost. We then borrow more money to plug the hole in our budget deficit. This leads to more accrual of debt servicing costs. And then we go again the next year. Fiscal consolidation seems like another plausible path. However, the landing cost of petrol is around N450/litre, and even with Dangote, we can hope to shave N20-N30 off that price. With our current social structure, it’s doubtful that kind of adjustment can be made without social unrest. Hence, the road seems to lead inevitably to the 3Ds. No wonder the DCM was so spooked by the Finance Minister’s errant comments last year 3 Likes |

Good afternoon All, I’ve got a question If I invest 10 mil in this NIGB 16.25% APR 37 16.25 18-Apr-37 15.50% What will I get quarterly and how long will my investment last Thanks |
Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by emmanuelewumi(m): 5:14pm On Feb 02, 2023 |
moneymanager: These are not saving bonds, these pay coupon twice in a year. I don't have the figures of the current yield on these bonds, but it should be between 15% to 15.4%. So you should expect coupons of between 750k to 770k twice in a year for the next 14 years on your investment and then get back your N10 million in 2037. You can also trade your investment in the secondary market or use it as a collateral to get a loan of about N7.5 million to N8 million in order to harness emerging economic and business opportunities I hope I answered your questions 13 Likes |

sincerelymine:A new investor coming in possibly. The volume has increased since mid January 2023. Universal Insure seems to be working towards meeting the insurance recapitalization.......and possibly re-strategizing to deliver value to shareholders. ** Not statement of facts, just observation. 3 reasons why I will be completely quitting the use of Meristem stockbrokers by Q3 of this year. 1. Of all my stockbrokers, only Meristem stockbrokers deduct #50 from the money I deposit into their account, per deposit. 2. Of all my stockbrokers, only Meristem stockbrokers will not allow you to use all your deposited money to buy shares. They will always hold back N100 to themselves. The money is small but the reason is unclear and most likely invalid. 3. Of all my stockbrokers, only Meristem stockbrokers does not have the option of placing an order that can remain valid for 30 days. The maximum number of days that an order can remain in Meristem stockbrokers is 14 days. I have tried to complain about these three things to them severally, but I think their Management does not care about feedbacks and complaints. Please if their agents are here, tell them ooo. 4 Likes 1 Share |
