I’m currently in a dilemma and I wouldn’t like to shoot myself in the foot. I have been thinking lately of dropping money to start a joint business with my close friend, he has the expertise needed to run it but doesn’t have cash while I have cash with little knowledge of the business. I’m scared about him leaving later with most of the customers later when the business has grown to start his own since it’s a business that guarantee some huge returns in no distant time.
If I dedicate time to research about it, it’s a business I can handle fairly well On my own but I wouldn’t want my friend to think I cut him off it cos of the capital he couldn’t provide.

When I wanted to start a business with my friends after graduation, told my dad about and requested for a bit assistance

My dad said, in his words '' partnership has never paid off'', and that was what happened. The whole business ended in trouble, quarrel and final seperation

Is always better doing your own business

What worked for others may not work for you; However, Because others tried something and fail, doesn't mean you too will fail when you try it. Some of us are destined to succeed when we join our energy with that of someone else. Invest in that business today, but involve a lawyer and sign a written agreement [

Involve lawyer in something that concerns your close friend? That would spelt out distrust right from the beginning.

my cousin brother wanted to do the same with his friend, his friend is with the cash while my brother has the business idea but i discourage him from venturing into such because i can't see a concrete agreement between both he told my cousin brother to go and look for a shop that he will finance it while my brother will assume the position of manager and be remmitting some amount of money on weekly basis

No trust in business. Plus, if u can't make up your mind to involve a lawyer, it means you don't see your business growing very large in d future. Cos what you're planning to do is called partnership. And in partnership, there is need to organize a proper arrangements on how responsibility will be shared among the partners. And things like this are best written and documented for future purposes.
