Send an email to the embassy or you the provide feedback option on the portal to send a message. They will request for a copy of your passport and then effect the correction. You can check your USCIS Case Status here

No good school in the US will require you to pay part of your tuition before sending your i20 form. That's robbery... Looks like a one man building school that may have fallen out of accreditation even though they still provide SEVIS ID..

I am processing Us visa for some participants for US trip for a conference(b1/b2), one of the participants gave us his diplomatic passport no and that was what was used to pay the visa fee. Now he said he doesn't want to travel with diplomatic passport but with regular passport.

Though his ds-160 form is yet to be submitted, can we just enter the new passport no on the ds -160 form and submit and still use the payment ref no details used for the previous passport no or a new payment has to be made for the new passport no?

I have answered your question. Less than a week. Sometimes , Wes sends a verification email to your school. If you want it fast, monitor your dashboard and have someone on standby in your school to help you confirm the verification.

There are lost of jobs for PhD holders especially in the academia.
If you get a job in a school your H1b is sure in max 2 weeks then you get PR in 1 year for some schools.
Your spouse rides on you at every stage so it is automatic.

scale of 1-100 for both question is 90 for STEM.

If you did a stem course. You will definitely get a job.
What people usually do in masters (I don't know of PhD). From the last 6months of their course, they start looking for job. If they don't find. They take an extra semester (remember most course need a minimum of 30 credit to complete, but you can take up to 59).that extra semester gives you additional 6months to look for job. If you still don't find. Activate your opt. You get additional 90days to find a job.

Every thing in this life na risk. No risk no reward. You'd definitely get a job within 1yr and 3months

Again I repeat. There are lots of good colleges that will never ask for enrollment deposit before your arrival.. Seek for them... Do you know that there may be no refund if things goes awry? You can do as you wish.

Honestly, I'm skeptical about these deposits too..and I'm reading stuff about Marshall asking for as high as 500 dolls...tsk tsk, idk.
For people looking to pay for tuition, maybe. But we the shishi family? Idk man..

I actively try to avoid even grad assistantship postings asking for me to be enrolled.

I dont think you can schedule appointments without Ds-160 but you can make changes in your Ds-160 after booking your appointments or going for your interview.
That's you can fill a new Ds-160.

Unless there's much more to what is holding you, I would say run with it. I will not ordinarily advice anyone to consciously choose to take on the intense programs at these big schools, when you'd end up coming out and be perceived as exactly the same in today's job market. I know one medical student at Yale right now, endlessly looking for a Public health internship as I know another at GSU, who's been asked to share postings with her friends. Just getting into an accredited program in the US, should be top priority.

What I believe is that it doesn't matter. I'm not getting married to the school or to the state of Mississippi. You go, spend your four years, perform as well as you can academically and find ways to network and connect with people. You can always move out of the state when you're done and there will always be grad school opportunities.

Unfortunately, all this one is just grammar to my family. By going to Mississippi I might as well be going to Syria.
