Not entirely true. Every dept RA/TA pay is not the same in school . I have friends who attended southern and northern schools…with RA/TA/Post Doc positions .. Some southern students got paid more and saved more. Sometime the COL is 3k-5k of $$ while rent difference btw a southern like MS and NYC might be up $600-$1000/mon. So your net saving is actually zero or negative.

Average RA/TA position in schools in NYC which typically includes tuition reimbursement is 40k+ for 12months.

Good evening guys.
I just recently got admitted to University of Texas Dallas for my PhD in Political Economy.
Offered a teaching assistantship
Full Funding (tuition waiver)
$2000 monthly stipend ($24k a year). (Subject to change yearly).
Also with health insurance.
Classes resume 21st, August 2023.

PLEASE GUYS WHAT DO YOU THINK? WHAT'S MY CHANCES AT THE EMBASSY? I NEED TO HEAR WHAT YOU GUYS HAVE TO SAY.

THANKS

Congratulations.

Great offer. I believe your monthly take home after taxes should be around $1600 especially as health insurance is fully covered so it’s a great deal. Are you having doubts?

I haven’t been to the embassy before, but I understand previous denials can have a negative impact on your application. If you shared your transcript before, I’m sure people advised you accordingly. At the very least, a PhD shows career progression and you don’t have to worry about finance.

Guys, I am asking for an acquaintance. Which schools have scholarships for freshmen with SAT? Just generally as I did not ask for the major intended. Thank you.
Re: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 17 by mojolajesu(m): 1:56am On Mar 02, 2023
I have been rejected twice too.

tbh, my next confidence to approach that embassy again is going to be on the wings of funding.

I have applied to a couple of schools for MSc hoping for funding.

Bro, brace up and enter the embassy again. with a fully funded phd, you stand a high chance!

good luck

There are over 4,000 colleges and universities in this country. It’s impossible for anyone to know. If you’re waiting for someone to tell you the answer to your question instead of doing a detailed internet search, your acquaintance is going to miss out.

When we were doing these school applications back in the day, we knew schools which had scholarship offers. Back then Sterling College, Ks- habitat for humanity, Mansfield University PA. This is the best I can do for her as I have gone way past this. Thank you.

That's why it's not good to rush for US visa without proper funding.. Relax man. Your previous rejections have nothing to do with your current application especially as you have full funding which is very competitive to get for any program... Blow your trumpet in your DS 160 form about your acquisition of full funding, and state your full amount in all. At the interview, also refer to your full funding and your PhD research too.. Please go with pride and be confident...

You are a Doctoral scholar funded by a world class school..

No two experiences are the same, but how would you feel to know that HRs were/are always the first to get laid off in this recession? Talent hunt is chic, but delicate. 'Cos when a company is not hiring, then they are basically just taking up space..

Talent acquisition and recruiting are not the only specializations in the Human Resources field. There is more to that than HR. There are HR compensation and benefits analyst roles, business partner roles, Hr generalist roles and even hr analyst roles involving HRIS. All these specializations are relatively recession proof than talent acquisition and specialists in diversity, equity and Inclusion. And every company there is always different human resources personnel with these roles, so I believe this field wont be severely affected by recession in the future.

Lols. Why the bolded? I hope you are not paying fully out of pocket... I know someone who studied there for a fully funded Masters in Mathematics some years ago.

Because some people might consider non-stem courses as a waste of time especially as an international student in the US. HR is a non-stem course, but it has decent career prospects to me. And I never get funding o. I keep in touch with the department in case any assistanship position is vacant so I can apply.

Ok, that's swell. Good you know where to face then. I'm rooting for you. Besides HR Analytics is considered a stem degree in many schools.

Yes many non-STEM courses are waste of time except you get full funding and you're not paying out of pocket.

If you were rejected in Lagos, you should try the Abuja embassy next.
Do not be discouraged. It will end in testimony.
Ensure you discuss your plan after your program and tie it to Nigeria.
Be bold and show enthusiasm during your next appointment. Stop dwelling on past refusals. The past denials should be an advantage because you are not a Johnny just come (JJC).
I have seen people who got theirs after the 6th trial.

SHALLOM!

Please are there schools that are still open to applications for PhD in Electrical Engineering (fall 2023)? I applied to 3 schools: got a rejection letter from the first one yesterday. I would want to broaden my chances.

hello everyone,
I got a fully funded PhD offer from University of South Florida and University of Cincinnati.
What do you think about the schools? Are they of good repute (I mean respected), as I am also thinking of after job opportunities too from the school I plan to study.

Please I need advise here.

The priority deadline for funding for most schools has elapsed, even if you apply now your chances of getting funding will not be very high. I'll suggest you wait out the other two schools, in the mean time you can be sending cold emails to professors, because I have come to know that getting a supervisor for PhD application is very helpful.

University of Southern Mississippi, University of Alabama (the ones in Birmingham, Tuscaloosa and Huntsville). Many schools out there depending on your research.
