No. Embassy has never and will never start to study your DS160 before you appear for interview. This myth is something that has consistently found its way into social media in Nigeria especially where US F1 Visa is being discussed. And I thought anyone could have debunk this myth by now

The reason is simple. Officers don't have time to do this. Your DS160 Only appears Infront of his computer when he collect your passport to scan. And you need to be there before they do this .

These officers have been trained on what they look for on your ds160. They match the consistency of what you're telling them with what you filed on your DS160. And in fact this can be done within 2mins maximum.

While at it, you still need to understand that approving your visa is at the discretion of the officer interviewing you. And these officers have denied visa for baseless of reasons that we sometimes don't even understand. And that's why people try again.

When you want to reapply, use a new ds160,your circumstances have changed; within these years, COVID happened, your girlfriend broke up with u, your dog died, you've added weight. So these officers are not expecting your condition to still be the same after 7yrs, Except the information that don't change, like you date or birth

Thank you so much for this insightful response

Hello everyone, I am new to the U.S. visa thread and I have gone through some parts of the thread as well. Guys I really need your help to answer all my questions . It’s somehow complicated, so I will give some background details
I currently live in Germany, had my bachelors degree in German language in Nigeria and studying M.A intercultural communication( would be done in July hopefully)
So I got admitted and was given a funding of 18,500 for a masters program in German studies. Tuition fee of 20k was waived.
The issue is I have a fiancé in Nigeria and I would love that we apply together, which means I have to come to Nigeria, get married so we apply together from Nigeria as well.
Guys would you advise, I apply from here while he applies for a dependent visa after I must have gotten my visa. I read there is an issue with appointment dates .
How much POF would he need, my school said I don’t need any.
I am unmarried now, will this affect my applications in any way since the school is dealing with me as a single person. Also at the point of visa interview, will this affect me? Because I will have the court wedding few days/ weeks to the wedding since I filled the form as single. Note , I can’t afford coming earlier, I can only fly home once. Please guys help me by responding .

Thank you for your response.

So many questions running through my mind.

Will I be interviewed based on the previous DS 160 or the current one?

Do they have the workforce to check the previous DS 160 of over 200k apps in Nigeria before the interview?

Do they have the technology that automatically picks inconsistency in the previous/current DS160 during the interview?

It became a source of worry because I was opportune to have my previous ds160 available after seven years. What about people who jumped from one agent to another with different ds160 information and later secured visas?

I’m not trying to be smarter here, but I am only trying to give myself some courage and reason to get it right.

Can you state what your profile was before and what it is now. Try and use different names to illustrate it. I hope you grab that?. As regards if they have workforce to check your previous details, they will get it within nanoseconds. It's software doing the matching not human beings or one clerk looking for dusty files.

I just had my F1 interview this morning.....
Only one VO, a female.
Served all the 8 persons before me the blue paper.

She gave me a white paper with my passport and said I will be getting a mail in the next 24hrs.
I should follow the instructions and fill out the form.
I asked why is she not taken my passport, she said I have been placed on administrative processing and that my program starts in August so I still have four months.

Any suggestion is welcomed...

Good morning boss. I want to ask a question. My interview is 3 weeks after my resumption date in the school. The rescheduling of date wasn't my fault, it was the embassy that rescheduled the date and since then I haven't been able to see a closer date. What are chances.

Hello nairaland fam,
Please I’m really worried about something and I would love to share it on here
I have a low gpa of 2.57 on a scale of 5.00 in my undergraduate mechanical engineering
So I would love to know if there are schools anyone can recommend to me that would accept me for masters degree
I’m just worried because I’ve got admission refusal from MARSHALL and UNIVERSITY OF NEW HAVEN and since then I’ve been down because they’re the school my hopes are on because of the high acceptances rate

I don’t know if anyone can advise me and also recommend school that accept low gpa of 2.57/5.00

Why not do WES evaluation? With that I think your cgpa will increase.

Why dont u ask that someone who told you that some schools would accept it… to help you with the names of the schools…

Or you could still try WES evaluation to increase your chances.

Good luck
