The Ukrainians are no match for the Russians. Despite the billions worth of equipments given to them by the West. They still can not beat the Russians in a street fight (man-to-man/one-on-one). The Russians are pushing Ukrainians out of Bakhmut by engaging them in close combat. Liberating buildings after buildings. The same Russians the West claim are not well equipped or won't survive the winter.

The same thing happened in Kherson. The Ukrainians engaged the Russians in a massive counter-attack once, lost a lots of troops and equipments. Then they stopped. The Russians waited for Ukraine to attack massive again, but this never happened. But Russia has to retreat due to logistic problem. The Crimea bridge & the bridge linking East Kherson to West Kherson were not operational at a time. They had issues getting resupplies. When the Russians reported they are leaving eastern part of Kherson, the Ukrainians call it a trap. This is because of the losses the experienced when they carried out massive counter-attack.

Ukraine success in Kharkiv were simply due to insufficient troops on the Russian side. About 40k Ukrainian troops against 5-10k Russian troops.

Nobody knows what Russia is doing. They are not in a haste. But I think they need to capture Bakhmut on time. So that they can start their large scale offensive on Slovyansk and Kramatorsk.

There are about 100k+ reserve troops in Belarus, about another 100k+ reserve troops on the border with Ukraine-Kharkiv and thousands more in Mariupol. Those troops have not engage yet. They keep their card close to their chest.

After claiming they captured Bakmut they would also be withdrawing from the city. The victory statement is more political than reality. The unreliable Russian regulars would be told to defend Bakmut when Ukraine is advancing in the flanks.

One thing is Pringozhn wants to get out of Bakmut asap, he's no fool, this isn't the first time he's trying to withdraw his troops.
