Hey guys, I just got to know that Canada now allows students to work as many hours as they want. No more just 20 hours. That's really good news for prospective students.

There has been a lot of arguments in this thread about the positives of travelling abroad. I don't know about everyone's situation, but for my own situation, i used to make about 4.8m in Nigeria a year (not that bad), but i make about that in a month here before taxes. So i feel i am doing ok. It was not that way for me from the beginning. I worked in a warehouse, worked as a security for some years, then i took out a couple of years to get my Masters degree and things changed after that.
My advice, try and go to school here. I made that mistake initially, i didn't really consider schooling. I was making money as a security guard, but i was working a lot of hours. It is not bad for a start, but thanks to my wife, she made me to look at the big picture and made me realize what i can achieve outside being a security guard. Honestly, a good woman is everything, but you gotta be good to her too.

This dude @atutupoyoyo2211 is a German machine in human form, and he deserves our respect. In 2018, he set himself a 2-year goal to save $120,000 by the end of November 2020.

During this period, @atutupoyoyo2211 was only making $16 an hour and attending school for his master's program, but he was able to achieve this goal despite the fact that back then, in 2018, students were only allowed to work 20 hours a week.

Please don't ask me how he does it, because I have no idea.

I read every single page from 1 to the last...

Allow those doubters to contunue arguing about money that's already in your account...

It warmed my heart when I read about the part where your sisters and mum got their Canadian Citizenship and now you! I'm so happy for you guys mehn!

I pray may God continue breaking you to new grounds.

I will close my comment with this:

When Linda Ikeji(a Nigerian blogger) bought her house in banana Island plus a brand new range rover some years ago, she got so many criticisms and insults from a lot of people.
When the insults and name calling seemed too much, she gave a simple reply(can't remember the exact words but it was something like):

May God continue blessing us in such a way that would make people ask "is it real?"..

That's my prayer for you, myself and everyone who could pick out one or two things from your post to motivate theirselves.

Its fine. I always made sure i back up anything i said here with receipts. So attached is my pay stubs from the beginning of this year from my main job. And for those trying to reverse search the image, don't bother, you wont get any hit.
I'm trying to see if i can fill my weekends with some classes. Next semester my classes end by 3 pm everyday and only run till thursday. So i think i may be able to find another school to teach in. But guys, the taxes are crazy. I pay almost 4k a month in taxes from just this job.

About the 4k tax, omo! It's high oh! What do you make on that particular job before the tax deduction of 4k(I no too understand the screenshot attached)?

Even with that, you are still the man because saving roughly $60000 a year with a $16 an hour job is still unbelievable, but you were able to achieve that. You must be working a lot of hours at the job.

Anyway, you deserve my respect.
Re: My Monthly Savings In Canada by atutupoyoyo2211: 12:59pm On Apr 10, 2023
Before tax, at the moment I make $5687cad every 2 weeks on this job. That's about $11,374 a month. Somebody on this thread once said I was lying when I told him lecturers here can make up to 11k a month. He was quoting the average Canadian pay to me, and I told him, i am not one of the average. My other lecturing job pays me about $3600 monthly, because I teach there only 10 hours a week.

It is impossible to save that amaount on just your normal pay. I put that target cos I hard so much overtime a week. I worked about 90 to 100 hours a week. But I wont advise that, it a lot of work and stress.

No mind all those doubting Thomas them.

So let's say you make 11k monthly and give 4k up as tax monthly.
You're still left with 7k. Using black market rate, that's like at least 5million naira monthly.

If you asked me mehn, you're doing pretty good. No lecturer in Nigeria earns that amount monthly even if it's divided into 6places. Infact even if na oil company sef, as a contract staff you know the level and experience you need to get to before you go see 3million sef, not to talk of 5million!

Mehn I wish you greater heights!

It's bad when y'all make unreasonable conclusion like this. Is he spending the money in naira? Is he spending the money in Nigeria? Is he coming back to Nigeria? Is the cost of living in Canada and Nigeria the same? A #250,000 salary in Nigeria might do More in Nigeria than a $4k salary in highbrow areas in Canada. These things should be taking into consideration too. Salaried are pegged based on a country's cost of living. The cost of living in Nigeria is one of the cheapest in the world ever. You can use #25M to build a house in Nigeria, can the same money if converted to dollars buy a house in the US? You can basically feed with #100,000 can the same money feed you for a month in Canada? You people should take it easy with needles comparison. They don't even the same amount of tax in Nigeria. Ask yourself when last have you paid taxes in Nigeria?

Yes, japa, we've heard you . But there's no point making unfairly comparison as if they're spending this money in Nigeria

You are partially right. I say partially because, yes the standards of living are very different, the value of the currency are also very different. But if i use my self as an example, after paying my rent and other bills, I can still save about 55% to 60% of my monthly net income. Meaning, in a year I can save an equivalent of about 40m. If I use your own example, it means I can almost build that 25m house twice in about a year in Nigeria, and conveniently still have a mortgage here. So when you say, I may not be living as well as those in Nigeria, I beg to differ. Cos in addition to all that, in canada roads are good, light and water is available, security is guaranteed to an extent. You can't say that about Nigeria.

You're not the majority. There are lot of immigrants and citizens who don't make half of what you make. You're hardworking and you have goals. That's why you achieve that much. Not that doesn't repressnt the condition of everyone. Also, in Canada, Is the light free? Is the road free? Is the water free? Some months you pay $265 if you're not sharing apartments. I'm not debunking the fact that it's okay in Canada, what I'm saying is that people compare unnecessarily and it's not fair
They're not spending the money in Nigeria, they're spending it in Canada.I don't know about Canada, but in the US, a simple ailment can take your money away even if you have insurance. Imagine having ankle injury only to be billed $9800+ . See, things aren't black and white. Things are okay in the west, law work, you get the service you're paying for, but let people think for once. If Nigerians comply to order , are gentle and calm in Nigeria just like they turn to a sane person when they get to America, a lot of things will change.

First off, the op complained about his high task and I was just trying to encourage him not to feel too bad. In my words; "you're doing well".

Secondly, this is a person earning around 400k before he left to Canada so giving him some little motivation to keep him going, despite the high task is not a bad thing.

And in the area of paying task, come on na! Seriously!

And please let's not rush into arguments too emotionally. If you've been following this thread, you would see how the op was able to save a reasonable sum while working and studying. How possible is it in Nigeria?
You talk of how one could possible feed with 100naira in Nigeria.
How many Nigerians currently, can boast of having 100k naira in their accounts currently, talk more of feeding with it?
How easy is it to get that 100knaira here in Nigeria?
How many persons in Nigeria have access to a job of even 50k naira, talk more of 250k naira that you mentioned?

I Love Nigeria a lot but the truth must be said if we must grow. The op is doing way better than he could ever if he was in Nigeria! No matter how you looked at it.

I agree with you. My last paid job was around N2.5m per month and that was in 2018.
Even though i do not work yet in Canada but my spouse does and soon i will as well. I still think we live a better life now unlike before. The bills were too much in Naija; Driver, Nanny, Dogs, Estate Security, Diesel for Gen etc.

Personally, i am better off than i was in Nigeria. No comparison at all. I can only speak of my own situation and situations of my personal friends. I don't even make money at all. My friend that was in the same office with me in Nigeria, who was also paid the same thing i was pain in Nigeria, now works as a manager in Amazon and makes about 20k usd a month. I think, amongst my group of friends, i make the least.
