do you thin them down to one or let grow like that?
I thin them down to three after about 3weeks. The most healthy ones new are left. Better to thin in the evening to avoid shock to the plant tho

I use a urea(nitrogen) based foliar fertilizer for the first 3weeks then I stopped. Am using a 20L knapsack so I use 100ml. I apply once in a week only.

I made a mistake which I will love to share with my fellow readers and farmers. There is a technicality in the application of fertilizer to Okro due to the fact that the Okro plant continues to grow all through til the end of its life.
Re: Diary Of An Okro Farmer by Jub101(m): 10:22pm On Apr 04, 2023
When my Okro was about to start producing pod at week 6 I applied a high nitrogen fertilizer 20:10:10 which stimulated the growth of more leaves in respect to pod. As a farmer i need pods to make money not leaves. So please take note of that.
Re: Diary Of An Okro Farmer by Jub101(m): 10:24pm On Apr 04, 2023
You can delay the application of fertilizer till after your first harvest so as to prevent this and apply just minimal amount of nitrogen fertilizer.

Dissolve a full sachet of caterpillar force in 1Litre of water and use 50ml in 16-20litre knapsack sprayer. The other insecticide dosage will be determine based on the company’s instructions

This is really inspiring, I have half acre I would love to utilize. I'm still contemplating on the crop ( plantain or okra)

How many acres of land is your farm?
When is the best time to plant?

My land is approximately 4 acres. Planting time can be determined by your location. Where are you located sir

My Okro project is finally done today. I am indeed grateful to God for it was a successful one. I learnt a lot through the process and as a matter of fact I will be downsizing next time just to manage better. Also due to large acreage being used we need extra hands on harvesting days in which those women are trying to suck us dry due to the fact that they know we can’t harvest alone. A basket was being harvested for 500naira and transportation to and fro was on us. Thank you all for sticking around. God bless all your legit endeavors

A full Okro season takes about 4 month. Okro starts to produce after 60days of planting and the harvesting goes on for 2 months if well managed. There are different varieties of Okro out there but the best is the short evergreen lady finger. I will post a picture of it when I get to the farm
An awesome thread.
