Your wife is never your next of Kin. If you have 3 wives, who becomes next of Kin? Next of Kin is any person you have a direct blood relationship with. Father, mother,siblings,uncles & aunties,cousins mainly first. So the west used the law to accomodate any other person in terms of property, wealth, etc there Wives can come in.

From a legal standpoint, there's nothing like next of kin. If you die intestate ie without a will and you're married, your spouse and children are next in line but if you're unmarried then your immediate family members have a legal right to your estate upon receipt of the letter of administration.

In an ideal world in should be the wife but anyone can be your next of kin.

Wife but under certain conditions:
Be sure that your kids are actually yours. After DNA test.
Ensure she makes you her next of kin too. What is good for the goose is good for the gander.

Write your last will and testament. It supersedes next of kin nonsense.

Being your next of kin doesn't mean you believe that person should inherit all your assets. That person may just be the better organised, dynamic or reliable person you have. It should be more about executor of the will. Count brother or sister out.

There was a case last year. A man made his first son and first daughter his next of kin. However, the son is a kinda suwegbe person so the daugter and mother found a way to push him aside. The wife somehow became next of kin. You know 9ja and manipulation.

After monies were paid to the woman, she refused to share it with her children claiming to be the rightful NOK. It's like her hubby knew why he didn't include her as NOK. The daughter who connived to push her brother aside is now regretting it.

I am happy however with the way Hakimi's case went. He cheated a woman with a woman. A lesson for those who marry rich men with the intention of robbing him off his money in the name of one divorce law.

2. He may not grow old with his wife. She may choose to divorce him after two years and elope to another man with half of his long time hard earning.
