You would ask, don't the Oba of Lagos have his eyes and ears on the ground? How could a film production company be filming outdoors in Isale-Eko that was expectedly disruptive and none of the White cap Chiefs had knowledge of the shootings? shocked

The producer will handover the script to eyes and ears of oba to scrutiny, and the eyes and ears will be on sets for the duration of production. For your mind all the production was in isale eko

Like the Mayor of Newyork, and the government of the State baying against the 2002 Martin Scorsese Film, 'Gangs of Newyork'.... on account of its 'uncultured' portrayal of the Irish and the denigration of their proud heritage.

Anytime I watched the film all those years ago, long before all these events we see today I imagined Nigeria in 200 years time.
So apt today because a time will come when Lagos will become like Newyork, a truly cosmopolitan city, a real crucible of nationals of all kinds from all parts and places of differing backgrounds.

It will. It will have to. It has no alternative. Lagos will eventually leave its ethnic toga behind and become a city state indeed.

Lol, this is false equivalence.

Erm, why didn’t Martin Scorsese denigrate St. Patrick’s Day in ‘Gang of New York’ since you want to compare the two?

Well, he knows better.

Keep daydreaming about Lagos becoming New York with your warped understanding of what constitutes a cosmopolitan city. Yoruba cultures/traditions aren’t going anywhere and you either assimilate into Yoruba or stay in your villages.

No, the filming was done in Cotonou since you saw no Isale-Eko landmarks in the movie!

A film that was shot way back in 2021, released 2023 and they now remembered that the featuring of the Eyo was part of the movie!

I also guess the likes of Yinka Quadri and Ayo Lijadu, who are part of the cast are minors in the movie industry.

Chinedu’s forebear, William Allen Vivour, was the son of an Igbo slave.

He was born in Sierra Leone like the Yoruba Saros but while the Yoruba ones settled in Lagos Island and Abeokuta when they returned - William Allen Vivour settled in Opobo. He later left Opobo and moved to Fernando Po when he had problems with Jaja of Opobo.

It was his son (Chinedu’s great grand father) that settled in Lagos after marrying a Yoruba Saro woman (I believe from the Rhodes family in Lagos).

Chinedu is not Yoruba.
@Creeper, can we have strong references and Websites for your assertion here... ASAP.

I assumed from what I read that William Allen Vivour was a Yoruba-Sierra Leonean plantation owner in Fernando Po who also traded in oil palm export at Opobo in the years after 1870.

I've always wondered too why the
Vivours have not mentioned whether their forebear was an
Egba, Oyo, Ijesa, etc, prior to the deportation on slave ships to the Americas.

Candido da Rocha was born in Bahia, Brazil, but was of Ijesa origin.

Sir. Adeyemo Alakija (formerly had a Brazilian name, Placido
Asumpcao) was of Egba royalty.

Ajayi Crowther was from Osogun in Iseyin.

The 2 Vaughan brothers were Egbas but born in South Carolina, USA in the 1800s to an Egba father
(renamed Scipio Vaughan) and a Native American mother. They returned to Yorubaland for the first time in their lives in the late 1800s from South Carolina via Liberia and eventually made it to Abeokuta, the new Egba homeland. They then left Abeokuta and resettled in Ebute Meta on Lagos Mainland after the expulsion of Christians by the
Egbas. The Vaughan brothers became very wealthy businessmen.

The names you listed a legit Yoruba Saro and Amaros.

However, William Allen Vivour, was an Igbo Saro. There’s another William Allen who was a Saro of Egba descent, who became a bishop in Abeokuta and people tend to conflate the two. Also, people also conflate the Rhodes family of Lagos who are Yoruba Saros with Rhodes-Vivour family.

IK Sundiata in his book about the Sierra Leonean Creole palm oil and Cocoa merchants in Fernando Po cited William Allen Vivour and he was the son of an Igbo slave who was born in Sierra Leone. He later settled in Opobo before moving to Fernando Po.

I’ll find the book and post it later.

Thanks for the feedback@Creeper.
There is more clarity in your prior assertions now.

Gbadebo and his father definitely know these facts and have intentionally clammed up about that aspect of their history. I knew something was not right about the dodgy feedbacks from that guy.

I remember reading about IK Sundiata and he too has liberated slave origins and Fernando Po plantation connections.

I look forward to the book post.

He’s neither ‘a true Logasian’ nor Yoruba.

His forebear, William Allen Vivour, the son of an Igbo slave (sold via Bight of Bonny by Aro slave traders) was born in Sierra Leone.

And when his forebear returned to Nigeria with the other Saros (who were mostly Yorubas) - he settled in Opobo while the Yoruba Saros settled in Lagos and Abeokuta. They came to Lagos after Chinedu’s great grand father married a Yoruba Saro woman from Lagos.

Chinedu is from Biafraland with Igbo blood. Stop the madness.

Wow! Sagamu is the capital of Remoland.

How is she from Sagamu and still have the audacity to do something sacrilegious?

Eyo is from Iperu Remo hence the chants/incantations have Ijebu cadence. And listening to the chants/incantations - you can’t miss the ‘Osugbo’, ‘Alagemo’ and Ijebu references (I still watched a documentary on Eyo a few days ago when the controversy started). Osugbo and Alagemo are quintessentially Ijebu.

Whilst watching the Eyo documentary - the Adimu Orisha cited iconic Yorubas like Sir. Adeyemo Alakija, Kofo Abayomi, etc. as some of those who have worn the Eyo regalia. So, it shows it isn’t just some festival you can disrespect.

Sorry, but the woman needs to flogged for being stupid. There are certain things you don’t touch, no matter how idiotic your mentality is.
Deep insights.

Cc: Sukkot, what's your take here on the Eyo desecration.
Cheers.

Sorry for the late reply - I was watching NBA playoffs.

Yes, I'm pretty sure they know where they're from hence the family has a contract with Delta State government to build a mega city in Asaba. I guess they know their lineage is in Asaba or one of the core Igbo states.

I can't find copies of Sundiata's book online but I'll quote Enrique Martino who referenced his book in his journal and book. When you read, "Touts and Despots: Recruiting Assemblages of Contract Labour in Fernando Pó and the Gulf of Guinea, 1858–1979" (https://www.academia.edu/34998592/Touts_and_Despots_Recruiting_Assemblages_of_Contract_Labour_in_Fernando_Po_and_the_Gulf_of_Guinea_1858_1979_PhD_Humboldt_University_of_Berlin_2016) by Enrique Martino, you'd see that all the Fernandinos (name for creoles in Fernando Po) and Agudas from Lagos were referred to as 'Lagosians'. Interestingly, in the case of William Allen Vivour, he was referred to as a Fernandino but at no point was he called 'a Lagosian'. So, that shows he never settled in Lagos.

However, in the journal, Enrique Martino said William Allen Vivour was a palm oil agent of the John Holt Company, prior to starting his plantation business in Fernando Po.

So, it begs the question: where did William Allen settle after he left Freetown in Sierra Leone? The answer can be found below:

Jaja-Ibeno War of 1881
At last dialogue between the Opobo and the Ibeno failed. But Jaja did not
take it kindly to see the same Liverpool traders whom he sent away from
Opobo because of their free trade policy, establishing trading factories on the
Kwa Ibo. About twenty eight of them including George Watts, Henry Watts,
John Holt and Mr Vivour had agreements with the Ibeno hierarchy.
https://www.ajol.info/index.php/afrrev/article/view/43613/27135

This is a screenshot from Enrique Martino's book where he claimed William Allen Vivour was possibly Igbo (I didn't post the link to the book due to spambot hence I added the page so you can google it)
