Handwriting is not a yardstick for measuring intelligence.

In my years as a teacher, kids with bad handwriting are the slowest learners I've encountered.
I'm yet to meet a fast one even as a Montessori Teachee and a Phonics Expert.

Take the advice of the guys who asked you to get handwriting materials for the kid and always ask the kid not to rush.

Handwriting is a thing of the mind. Hand , Eye and Mind Coordination. It takes discipline to have mastery.

If a person is loosing it there, it's evidence they need help.

Many doctors with bad handwriting have sent millions to the grave. That's why America is revolutionizing how prescriptions are given.

One idiot doctor almost killed me too Many years ago at Victoria Island. Thank God for the Pharmacist who saw it and advised me against it.
I don't know that woman but God bless her for me.
I'm very okay.

Idiot almost killed because I don't even know what he wrote. I noticed he looked upset sha, maybe something dey vex am before I enter because he discharged anyhow.

Advice you against what?
Did you go back to your doctor to explain to him?

The pharmacist knows little about your case.In a sane country, the pharmacist will just write a note to the doctor for clarification. The Doctor is the one managing you. What if not using it could have even be dangerous? You were just lucky.

By the way,Are you are here to contribute or to bash Doctors?

Sloppy writing is an element of high intellect. His thinks faster than his hand can coordinate. Leave him, this is the era of computer
Why can't the hand and the brain be fast at the same time?

Please tell us more. I don learn something today. What do you do when ideas just keep pouring into your head on a particular subject to the extent you start talking to yourself? But the moment you pick up the biro to write, the flow will just stop or you feel your hand is not writing fast enough? It could be very frustrating and annoying.
You are a creative person niyen, you are having difficulties remembering your thought.
I guess that's creativity curse, what I would suggest is to just pick key ideas of your thoughts and note it down or do voice note to keep records of your ideas.

OracleOfTheMost:
Illegible handwriting or bad handwriting as many people often call it, is a sign of high intelligence or processing information faster than you could get yourself to write it down.
This is true 80% of the time. I’ll use myself as an example..

Uptil this moment my writing is considered illegible because I think of an information so fast that before I could write it down it tends to look like a long signature in lines LOl.. while in primary school I was the overall best from primary 2 till 6 and the guys/girls that always come 2 or 3 had the almost similar pattern of illegible writing as mine or the one in the picture you posted above even in Sec. School. Overall best from JSS 1 till SS2.. This doesn’t erase the fact that there are Dumb people with bad handwriting too.

Atleast by now you should have known His/her level of IQ.. all you have to do is to leave HIm/Her alone as bad handwriting doesn’t transmit to failure in life Lol.. also know that there are many smart authors with illegible handwriting too.. Gracias

The those that are very brilliant and have good handwriting are more intelligent than you.

You can actually have both.

I don't know where they get such false information from.
9 out of 10 intelligent persons have met all have legible handwriting.
I tell you.

If one is intelligent and has poor hand writing, to me I believe you are still lacking.

People passive me as being very intelligent. I have a superb handwriting! and I am a medical doctor.

The only thing I can say is that, having fine hand writing is a talent and gift, just like brilliance and sport skills.

First I will suggest the child is taken for thorough eye test, am saying this out of experience.
Then get him/her handwriting book and make sure he/she writes a few pages daily.

My 2 cents ooh

For lefties, correct positioning of the book and how you stabilise it with your right arm matters.

I wrote with left but the sitting position made it hard for me. We sat on the long chairs with desk top, the type you’d find in most traditional churches (Catholic and Anglican)
My left hand/writing hand always made contact with the right hand of the kid next to me. It was frustrating for both of us and of course drew attention to me. I was forced to use right hand through constant canning and left hand tied to my side. I’d deal with any teacher that’ll try that with my child.
I learnt to sit at the left and edge of the desk. It helped for a while till I started using my right hand.
Lol same issues with me. Student using right do complain of me discomforting them.
I still use left till today

I'm a teacher in one of Lagos state school and I had asisted a lot of students on handwriting...... U first work on how the student hold pen, is very vital in handwriting, if a student can hold the pen in ideal way, he or she will write very well..... U can watch video on YouTube to learn how to hold pen

Put the person on using writing book to practice for probably 2 months. My father used it on us growing up and our handwriting then was impressive.

Invest in a handwriting program. They are not as expensive as you may think. @Rubyhandwriting has a decent one. It can still be corrected. Best of luck.

Handwriting is kinda difficult for some teachers to handle.
There are four positions for learning and teaching handwriting:
1. Hand position
2. Book position
3 pen position
4. Letters position : Here you teach your wards by letting him/ her know the three basics letter positions.
We have upper letters e.g b,d,h,l,k.f,t. Which all projects above the blue line.
We have the lower letters e.g g,p,y
And the short letters e.g a,e,c,I,o.n.s.
Aslo, teach spacing while doing teaching.

I had the same issues up till ss2
my mum got me calligraphy work books (the ones nursery pupils use) and ensured i properly filled them up in a few months my writing improved remarkably. You'll need to be strict as the parent or teacher because it'll bore him alot but its really effective.

The parent has failed in this aspect. Were they blind to see this when the child was in primary school? I guess they felt less concise thinking that the teacher will do everything for them when the child was in the primary section....
Handwriting is coordinated by the brain and supposed to be perfected when the child was still learning how to write not now. It will take the grace of God to correct this.

ok good evening July, though in March, for that writing, the child should start writing the alphabet again but now using handwriting notebook. Then if the child doesn't write neatly, you can erase for the child to start all over and you need to be very patient with the child. With time he/ she would change. I av tried it severally with pupils in class and it worked. also remember that one's writing is connected with their attitude. Thanks

Please get handwriting book for the child.

My dad got me one when I was in Pry 5 and it really helped my writing. I also got one for my child during the pandemic when he was in JS 2 and it has changed his writing for the better.

When you get it, be sure to monitor him and ensure he writes just the way it is written in the book.
Way to go, same thing my dad did to me, and I was made to also write it the way it was written in an exercise book with a target of 15 pages or more a day and to be submitted at night upon his return from work or the next morning when he is on night duty...

I also did same to some pupils of mine when I was teaching some did improve with their parents appreciating my little effort and some due to their stubbornness refused to change...

I remember my secondary school introduced a handwriting lesson with some handwriting workbooks for some students and those students improved. Go to a bookshop and get that workbook. It might help.

Can jss classes use such workbook too?
